    Davido is coming, Israel DMW announces

    The wait for Davido’s return to the music scene and social media activities may just be coming to an end as his personal logistic manager, Israel DMW, has heralded the highly anticipated return of the much-loved singer.
    Since the death of his son, Ifeanyi David Adeleke, on October 31, 2022, David has restrained himself from flaunting his lifestyle on social media platforms.

    Despite being the most followed Nigerian celebrity and African musician on the photo and video sharing social networking service, Instagram with a followership of 26,477,128 as of the time of this filing, yet, he has kept his lifestyle and business off the space.

    His last post which is dated December 19, 2022, holds pictures of his enviable performance during the FIFA world cup closing ceremony, where he gave a thrilling show of ‘Better Together (Hayya Hayya)’ alongside Aisha and others at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, just north of Doha, Qatar.

    With the post, the DMW boss wished his millions of fans across the globe and loved ones a Merry Christmas celebration while promising to return in March 2023 with lots of goodies.

    And as the month of March pulled up, the fans kept anticipating his promised return with a few ladies staging a protest on the street to that effect.

    As many await O.B.Os come back, his loyal associate, Israel via his insta story, shared a photo of a private jet that just landed and an exotic automobile waiting to chauffeur the singer on his arrival.

    He captioned the photo: “001. Oga is coming”.

    Sanwo-Olu cancels Lagos public activities for train crash victims

    Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has cancelled all of the State’s public activities scheduled for Thursday following the death of three persons in an accident involving a train and a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle, along PWD railway crossing, Ikeja.

    Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Segun Dawudu, stated this at a programme at the Point View Event Centre Ikeja, where the Governor was scheduled to meet over 2,000 youths.

    Dawudu said the cancellation was in honour of the victims of the crash.

    The fully loaded bus collided with the train in the early hours of Thursday killing two women and a man, and leaving many others severely injured.

    The youths, who were already seated, were asked to go home as the event had been rescheduled.

    Dawudu said the event tagged: “Youth timeout with the governor”, will now hold next week as Governor Sanwo-Olu was visiting the injured in the hospital and would not make it to the event.

    He expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident and promised that the state government would provide all necessary support to those who were injured.

    Dawodu implored all Lagosians to say a word of prayer for the departed souls.

    Some of the youths present were also urged to visit the Gbagada General Hospital and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH ikeja to donate blood to the injured.

    Popular actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has declared her support for the reelection of Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

    She declared Sanwo-Olu her preferred governorship candidate for the State.

    The mother of four shared images of ‘The Sanwo-Olu Scorecard’ which highlighted the different sectors of the economy, showing accomplished projects.

    Expressing solidarity with the 15th governor of the metropolitan city, the ace film star wrote: “This is why my choice is Governor Babajide Sanwoolu; His efforts that have improved healthcare, women’s development, transportation, entrepreneurship, education, and infrastructure in Lagos State.

    Sanwo-Olu visits injured victims of train accident

    Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) to visit persons injured in the train accident which occured on Thursday morning.

    He is accompanied by the Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi and Chief Medical Director of LASUTH Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo.

    A moving train collided with a Lagos State government staff bus between Sogunle and Ikeja.

    The Governor, who commiserated with families bereaved in the accident, prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest.

    Sanwo-Olu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, thanked Lagosians who joined the first responders in the search and rescue operation, saying the true spirit of Lagos must be sustained at all times.

    “A big thank you to well meaning Lagosians who immediately joined in rescue efforts. Our first responders and emergency services are on ground and we will share more information shortly,” he said.

    The Governor also promised to give updates on the incident as necessary.

    The number of casualties is yet to be ascertained, but the injured are receiving treatment at the emergency tents set up in the helipad inside the hospital.

    Minister directs NSIB to investigate Lagos train accident

    The Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika has directed the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau(NSIB) experts to commence Immediate investigation into the collision of a passenger train and a bus conveying workers in Lagos on Thursday.

    Describing the accident as unfortunate, Sirika assured the public of the capacity of the NSIB to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the accident and proffer ways of preventing such in the future.

    He solicited the cooperation of members of the public as investigation by the NSIB team commences.

    He commiserated with the government and Lagos resident, especially those who have lost their loved ones and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the accident.

    According to reports, two persons were confirmed killed while many sustained various degrees of injuries when a moving train rammed into a BRT bus at the PWD bus stop in the Ikeja area of Lagos state on Thursday morning.

    Abuja banks start accepting old notes

    The banks in Abuja are gradually obeying the Supreme Court order to issue old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes.

    Many banks in the city centre and satellite towns have started complying with the order.

    Over the counter, the banks issued cash to their customers ranging from N5,000 to N20,000 depending on the bank.

    While the banks are issuing the old notes across their counters, many Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are not dispensing cash.

    No bank was ready to give an explanation on the development.

    Police have arrested former Imo Deputy Governor Gerald Irona.
    Sources said Irona, the immediate past Deputy Governor under Emeka Ihedioha, was arrested on Wednesday.

    It was not clear why Irona was arrested but a statement by his media consultant, Destiny Ugorji accused the State Government of orchestrating his arrest over what he described as “trumped-up charges.”

    The statement reads: “As part of its strategy towards weakening opposition in Imo State, the Imo State Government, Wednesday, orchestrated the arrest of the immediate past Deputy Governor, Engr. Gerald Irona, over trumped-up charges.

    “Irona’s arrest came on the heels of a scheduled House of Assembly and gubernatorial election, fixed to hold nationwide on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

    “As at the time of this statement, Wednesday afternoon, the former Deputy Governor had written his Statement at the Police, a bail bond issued, signed, and all the bail conditions fulfilled.

    “There is however a twist, following pressure from the Imo State Government House, allegedly ordering the State Police command to detain the former Deputy Governor until after Saturday’s election.

    “Let it be clear to Nigerians and the entire world that Wednesday’s arrest of former Deputy Governor, Engr. Gerald Irona is politically-motivated and Governor Hope Uzodimma is clearly behind it.

    ”Senator Hope Uzodimma must realise that power is transient, and nobody occupies the seat of power forever.’

    Reacting, Imo Commissioner of Information and Strategy Declan Emelumba denied the government’s involvement in the arrest of the former Deputy Governor.

    “Ask the police why he is been arrested, I don’t know anything about his arrest, ” he said.

    Contacted, Imo Police spokesman Henry Okoye said he would get back but was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

    Missing Ondo teenager found hanged

    A 17-year-old boy Elijah Akinrinlola has been found dead five days after he went missing.

    The deceased, who lived with his father at Bagbe, Ondo West local government area, was found hanged in a tree.

    Sources said several sequence of events led to his sudden disappearance and eventual death.

    Another source, who gave her name as Helen, said the family thought it was his usual going away from home when he did not return home on the first day.

    According to her: “The first day he did not come home to sleep, his family thought it was just what he normally did and were not worried. Then, they began to search for him when they did not see nor heard from him the following day.

    “He was later found hanging on a tree with a rope around his neck after missing for like five days. The place he was found is close to their street.”

    Another source said, “What I heard is that he disappeared from his father’s house for maybe five days. His father searched for him everywhere, but he did not see him. Nobody saw him until someone who was going to pick snails in the farm at night found his lifeless body hanging on the tree.

    “They don’t know what could have led to this. I think he was a carpentry apprentice sometime ago. I don’t know if he was through with learning before this happened. He was a very lively person. He loved playing with people and having fun. He was someone who was not worried named about issues. So, this is shocking to me.”

    It was gathered that the police have invited some persons for questioning including family members.

    Ondo Police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident.

    She said investigation has commenced.
