  • Cristiano Ronaldo not for sale, says Erik ten Hag

Cristiano Ronaldo not for sale, says Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is “in our plans” for the new season and “not for sale”.
The 37-year-old will miss the first part of United’s pre-season tour to Thailand and wants to leave the club.

He returned to United last season after playing for Real Madrid and Juventus.

“He is not with us due to personal issues. We are planning with Cristiano Ronaldo for this season. That is it,” said former Ajax manager Ten Hag.

“I am looking forward to working with him. Cristiano is not for sale. He is in our plans. We want success together.”

The Portugal forward’s absence on the tour fuelled speculation over his future after he also missed the club’s return to pre-season training at Carrington.

Ronaldo instead trained at the Portuguese national team’s headquarters.

The Old Trafford side play Liverpool in Thailand on Tuesday before flying to Australia and Ten Hag said he does not yet know whether Ronaldo will join later in the tour.

The Dutchman added that he spoke to Ronaldo before the tour, explaining: “I had a good talk. That is between Cristiano and me, what I can confirm is we had a really good conversation together.”

Ten Hag also addressed the captaincy, which became an issue as a result of Harry Maguire’s struggle for form last season.

“Harry Maguire will be captain,” he said. “He has been captain for more than a year. He has achieved a lot of success. I have no doubts about this issue.”

United’s only signing this summer is full-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. They look set to sign free agent midfielder Christian Eriksen and are close to an agreement with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong.

Ten Hag emphasised United will only recruit players if he believes they will fit into his intended style of play.

“We want to add the right players. We have a really good squad, we are working to develop our way of playing and the opportunity is there and we will strike,” he added. BBC

Elon Musk trolls Twitter over suspended take-over deal

The world’s richest man Elon Musk has taken a swipe at Twitter over their decision to file legal action against him following his decision to put its acquisition deal on hold.

In May, Musk revealed the “deal” with the micro-blogging and social networking company Twitter was on hold after Twitter agreed weeks ago on a ‘definitive deal’ to sell itself to Musk at approximately $44 billion.

When the deal was initially announced, the SpaceX CEO disclosed plans to make Twitter “better than ever” by “defeating the spam bots and authenticating all humans.”

However last Friday, Musk said he was terminating his $44 billion deal for Twitter, saying the social media company had failed to provide information about fake accounts on the platform.

He tweeted: “Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users”.

His attorneys on Friday filed a letter with the SEC accusing Twitter of being in material breach of the transaction agreement. They wrote that the company, after repeated requests for data on its accounts, “has failed or refused to provide this information”

The fling claimed that “Twitter is in material breach of multiple provisions of the buyout deal, and that the company appears to have made false and misleading representations upon which Mr. Musk relied when entering into the Merger Agreement.”

Moments later, the micro-blogging social network platform, announced it would pursue legal action against Tesla Chief Executive Officer.

Twitter’s chairman board of directors, Bret Taylor, made the position known in response to Musk”s action.

He wrote that the social media platform is “committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk and plans to pursue legal action to enforce the merger agreement. We are confident we will prevail in the Delaware Court of Chancery.”

Reacting, Musk took to his Twitter handle on Monday to share a collage of several hilarious memes trolling the micro-blogging app over their decision to pursue legal actions against him for temporarily suspending the acquisition deal.

The first had the inscription, “They said I couldn’t buy Twitter.”

Next “Then they wouldn’t disclose bot info.”

That which followed next reads: “Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court.

The last inscription reads: “Now they have to disclose bot info in court.”

Man Utd’s Pogba completes Juventus return on a free

Juventus have completed the signing of Paul Pogba on a free transfer after the midfielder’s release by Manchester United.
Pogba returns to Juve after six years at Old Trafford, and will be looking to regain the form that made him the world’s most expensive footballer when United paid £89 million ($106m) to sign him in the summer of 2016.

He scored 34 goals and provided 40 assists in 178 appearances for the Bianconeri in his first spell with the club but after an up-and-down time in the Premier League, it remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old is still capable of elite-level performances on a consistent basis as he returns to Serie A.

Having undergone a medical on Saturday, Pogba has signed a four-year deal at the Allianz Stadium, which is set to be worth around £8 million-a-year in terms of salary, plus bonuses.

The France international will also earn a hefty signing-on fee from the Bianconeri, who are hopeful that he will become the centrepiece of Massimiliano Allegri’s side in their bid to regain the Scudetto after two disappointing campaigns.

Juve have expressed their delight over Pogba’s return in an official statement on their website, which reads: “Paul is back in Turin. He left as a boy and returns as a man and a champion, but there is one thing that has not changed – the desire to write unforgettable pages of club history together once more. Pogba is back and we couldn’t be happier.”

Pogba has been handed the No.10 jersey upon his return to Turin, reprising the jersey he wore during the most successful spell of his career thus far at Juve.

He takes over the shirt from Paulo Dybala, who has left the club this summer and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, as well as Juve’s domestic rivals Inter and AC Milan. Goal
