  • Lai Mohammed to donate books to 20 institutions

Lai Mohammed to donate books to 20 institutions

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has promised to donate copies of his book to, at least, 20 institutions of higher learning across the country.

Mohammed made the promise when he donated copies of the book, “Headlines & Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration”, to the library of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.

A statement on the event was made available to newsmen by the minister on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the former minister said the initiative is informed by his decision to support research, teaching and critical inquiry in governance and strategic communication in tertiary institutions

He added that the decision was part of his commitment to scholarship and knowledge-sharing.

The former Minister said the book was written out of a strong conviction that Africans must tell their own stories from their own perspectives.

He noted that national experiences are often documented by outsiders, sometimes with distortions arising from distance, ignorance or bias.

According to him, having served for nearly eight years as Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, making him the longest-serving holder of the office, he felt a responsibility to document his experience in public service.

He described the book as an account of stewardship that chronicles key media moments, policy communications, crises, controversies and decisions that shaped public perception during the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, *Headlines & Soundbites* is intended for students, researchers, media professionals, public relations practitioners, historians and others interested in governance, nation-building and strategic communication.

He added that book offers an insider’s perspective on government communication as practised, rather than as theory.

Mohammed expressed hope that the book would serve as a reference material, teaching aid and resource for critical engagement

He said the book would also encourage readers to interrogate narratives, seek context and appreciate the role of communication in shaping national history.

The former Minister said he was particularly pleased to donate the book to Yaba College of Technology, describing the institution as one renowned for producing practical thinkers and professionals who engage directly with societal challenges.

He emphasised that knowledge should not be confined to private collections but made available where it can be questioned, tested and applied.

The management of Yaba College of Technology received the donation with appreciation, commending the author for contributing to academic resources and supporting intellectual development within the institution.

Akume assures full digitisation as SGF Office goes live on 1-Gov Cloud ECMS

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has formally commenced the transition to a fully digitised records and administrative system, with assurances that the move will strengthen digital governance, efficiency and transparency across its operations.

Speaking at the flag-off of the 1-Government (1 Gov) Cloud Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said the initiative underscored the Office’s commitment to modernising governance processes in line with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSIP 2025).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the OSGF, Segun Imohiosen, Akume described the ECMS as a critical tool for transforming how the OSGF manages official records, workflows and inter-ministerial communications.

He said the system would provide a secure and integrated platform that improves timeliness, accuracy and decision-making, noting that the Office’s role as the coordinating hub of government policies and programmes made digital efficiency imperative.

“With the ECMS, our processes will be faster, more reliable and better aligned with the demands of contemporary public administration,” he said, adding that the full implementation of digitisation would enhance accountability and transparency in government business.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who officially flagged off the deployment, commended the SGF and his management team for embracing the enterprise content management platform.

She said the adoption of the ECMS marked a significant step in digitising work processes and strengthening service delivery across the federal civil service.

Walson-Jack noted that the OSGF’s responsibility for coordinating Federal Executive Council (FEC) business and maintaining constant engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) meant that traditional paper-based processes were no longer adequate.

According to her, the speed and accuracy required for effective governance can only be achieved through digital systems.

She explained that the introduction of the ECMS would ensure that government records are secure, easy to track and readily accessible when needed, thereby supporting smoother workflows and better-informed decisions.

She added that deploying the system on the One Gov Cloud platform would transform how work is done, enable electronic approvals, automate routine processes and significantly improve overall performance in the federal civil service.

The launch of the 1-Gov Cloud ECMS is expected to accelerate Nigeria’s public service digital transformation agenda, positioning the OSGF as a model for efficient, transparent and technology-driven governance.

  • 5 Seasonal Patterns Every Forex Trader Should Watch Each Year

5 Seasonal Patterns Every Forex Trader Should Watch Each Year

Nigeria’s currency traders see repeating rhythms across the calendar. Liquidity shifts, corporate flows, and global news cycles create tendencies that appear year after year. Understanding these patterns gives traders in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt a practical edge for timing entries, exits, and risk.

Many Nigerians learn the basics through forex trading guides, then discover that markets often move in familiar seasonal waves. These are not guarantees. They are tendencies that help you plan your week, your month, and your quarter with more structure.

Why Seasonality Matters For Nigerian Traders

Seasonality provides context for price action. It frames expectations for when spreads may widen, when trends often resume, and when ranges dominate. In a market where power or data constraints can disrupt screen time, planning around high probability windows reduces stress and improves focus.

Pattern 1: Turn of the Year Flows

The final week of December and the first weeks of January often show cleaner directional moves in major pairs. Funds rebalance, new allocations arrive, and corporate hedges reset. For Nigerian traders, this is a good time to review last year’s results, tighten rules, and track early year trends rather than fight them. Price that holds above or below December ranges can set the tone for the first quarter.

Pattern 2: Quarter Ends And Portfolio Rebalancing

Quarter ends in March, June, September, and December bring flow driven volatility. Asset managers rebalance currency hedges linked to equity and bond performance. You may see short bursts of movement near London fixings and later retracement once the flows pass. Plan risk smaller during these windows and let the dust settle before committing to multi day positions.

Pattern 3: Energy Cycle And Oil Linked Currencies

Nigeria follows energy headlines closely. Crude supply decisions, inventory reports, and demand updates influence currencies tied to energy. When oil trends strongly, Canadian dollar and Norwegian krone can show persistent direction. The ripple effect shapes risk appetite in majors as well. Nigerian traders who watch weekly oil calendars and OPEC related updates can align trades with these cycles rather than trade against them.

Pattern 4: Northern Summer Liquidity Lull

June to August often brings thinner liquidity as major desks rotate holidays. Spreads can widen during off hours and breakouts fail more often. This is a season for patience. Focus on clean setups during London open, use alerts instead of constant streaming, and reduce target size. When volume returns in late August and September, trends usually get follow through again.

Pattern 5: US Data Rhythm And Holiday Weeks

The first Friday of most months features US payrolls. Price tends to compress ahead of the release and expand afterward. Holiday shortened US weeks, such as late November and late December, can distort sessions with either sharp but brief moves or slow drift. Nigerians who trade after work hours should mark these weeks to adjust expectations and size accordingly.

    How To Validate Seasonal Ideas

    • Build a simple calendar of key weeks such as quarter ends, early January, and payroll Fridays
    • Back check your last six to twelve months of trades against those dates
    • Note spreads, slippage, and breakout quality in each window

Evidence from your own logs matters more than generic claims. If your journal shows that certain days deliver better reward to risk, you have a personal edge to lean on.

    Nigeria Centric Scheduling Tips

Plan your study around the London open and the London New York overlap. These hours often provide the best mix of liquidity and directional follow through. Prepare levels on Wi Fi, set alerts, and keep a power bank ready during overlap sessions. Align review time with your bank schedule so deposits and withdrawals do not interrupt trading windows.

Risk Controls That Fit Seasonal Conditions

    • Use smaller risk when liquidity is thin and increase only when conditions improve
    • Place stops beyond the level that invalidates the idea rather than too tight inside noise
    • Reduce the number of instruments during complex news weeks to keep attention sharp

Tools That Help You Track Seasonality

Keep a weekly worksheet with three parts. First, the calendar of known events and seasonality windows. Second, a shortlist of pairs that align with current global themes such as energy or rates. Third, a review block where you score trend quality, spread behaviour, and execution issues. Over time this worksheet becomes your seasonal map.

Turning Patterns Into A Simple Plan

Start each quarter with one or two themes you will respect. For example, respect quarter end flow risk and treat June through August as range friendly until volume returns. In practice this means you choose strategies that suit the environment. During range periods, favour mean reversion with tight targets. When liquidity returns, favour breakouts with partial takes and trail management.

    Common Mistakes To Avoid

Traders often assume that a seasonal pattern guarantees direction. That is an error. Treat every pattern as a probability that frames your plan, not a prediction that forces trades. Another mistake is ignoring spreads. Seasonal edges disappear if costs rise because you trade during poor hours or with scattered focus.

    Final Outlook

Seasonality is a compass, not a map. It points to times when the wind is often at your back. Nigerian traders who combine seasonal awareness with disciplined risk and a clean routine gain a measurable advantage. Keep records, compare results across seasons, and let the data guide adjustments. With that approach, your yearly plan stops depending on luck and starts to rely on repeatable timing that reflects how the market actually moves.
