  • Understanding covenant dimension of prosperity!

Welcome to another impactful week. I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. Today, we shall focus on: Understanding Covenant Dimensions of Prosperity!

From scriptures, we understand that prosperity in the Kingdom doesn’t answer to fasting nor does it answer to prayer or prayer of agreement. It only answers to our understanding and practice of covenant details. What we are selling or the business we are involved in is not what determines our prosperity. No! It is the light under which we are operating that determines the results we get. As it is written, But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day (Deuteronomy 8:18). Thus, the platform for wealth is released based on the covenant. When we step out into the covenant, we encounter the power to get wealth. Prosperity is not a promise we claim in prayers or with fastings and confession. No! It’s a covenant we practise. That means, God has set a stage for us, but we must understand our part of it and then the power to realise the promise will be delivered to us.

A covenant as it were is like a contract. So, it involves two or more people. In this case, it involves just you and God. God is the covenantor and we are the covenantee; that is, we are the beneficiary of the deal. All we need is a good understanding of what the covenant entails and we will be up in abundance. The Bible says, My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips (Psalm 89:34). God is a covenant keeper. His side of every covenant is forever secured; it is our side that is variable. But when we lay hold on the terms that relate to us and apply ourselves to it, God is committed. And once we locate the covenant and we enter into it, our struggles will come to an end. Since that day in March 1981 when I saw the covenant of prosperity, I entered into my rest. We don’t pray or fast for a covenant, we just enter into it. As it is written, And they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul; And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the Lord gave them rest round about (2 Chronicles 15:12, 15).

What Then, Is The Covenant Dimension Of Prosperity?

    • The Covenant will Always Prevail: When God said to Abraham, …Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing (Genesis 12:1-2). He moved as he was commanded yet he met famine there (Genesis 12:9-10). But in spite of that famine Abraham prevailed! As it is written, And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold (Genesis 13:2). Also, the Bible records that Isaac prevailed in famine, And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: For he had possession of flocks, and possessions of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him (Genesis 26:1, 12-14). Note that the covenant is stronger than any climate! There is no economic dearth or crisis that can break the efficacy of the covenant. Furthermore, in Jacob’s time, … the famine was sore in the land (Genesis 43:1). But in spite of this, Jacob still had more than enough. So, famine is not our problem, ignorance of the covenant is the problem. God said in Hosea 4:6, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… not for famine or for economic crisis of money failure.

In summary, if famine could not stop our covenant fathers, famine cannot stop us because the economy of our nation has no bearing on our covenant walk with God. I see the covenant prevail for you in your time! May everything that is against you bow to the power of this covenant! However, the only way to prove the reality of new birth is to genuinely repent and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! • Tributes as Olukoya buries mum

Three Governors, prominent Nigerians, family members and members of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) have bided farewell to Janet Olukoya, mother of the General Overseer of the church, Dr. David Olukoya.

The funeral at the MFM international headquarters, Onike-Yaba, Lagos filled the church to capacity.

Those who could not fine space inside stood outside the church premises.

Late Janet Olukoya died on 31th March, 2019. She was 95.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Tayo Ayinde; Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, represented by Prof. Dupe Adelabu led the pack of dignitaries.

Others include former Osun Deputy Governor Mrs. Titilayo Tomori; wife of the Lagos state governor, Dr. Adejoke Sanwo-Olu; former Lagos First Lady Dame Abimbola Fashola; Sen. Lanre Tejuoso; University of Lagos (UNILAG) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe; monarchs, among others.

Abiodun said the deceased lived 95 years of service to God and humanity.

The Governor also described the late Janet Olukoya as a virtuous woman.

“On behalf of the people of Ogun state, I join MFM General Overseer to appreciate God for granting our mother 95 years of grace, service to God and mankind.

“She devoted her life to God and humanity. For our General Overseer, your children will honour you and you will continue to be a blessing to this generation and that to come,” he said.

In his sermon, Pastor Michael Adeoye of Christ Apostolic Church, admonished the people to live a righteous life.

The cleric noted that every man is afraid of death because they are not prepared, adding that everyone should learn from the lifetime of the deceased, late Janet Olukoya.

He also appealed to the Governors and politicians present to fulfill their campaign promises.

“You need to ask yourself how your end will look like because whatever has a beginning must have an end.

“You need to understand that this world is temporary. You came to this world as a privilege. That is why you need to think about your responsibilities on earth and the day of reckoning.

“Mama’s lifetime teaches us a lot which we need to learn from. If you are at a position today, always remember you will become an ex tomorrow.

“As a politician, you should always create time to serve and worship God. Do not abuse your office and God will guide you to achieve your programmes,” he added.

Olukoya described his late mother to be industrious, compassionate and humorous.

He described the deceased as a perfect example of a ‘sweet mother’.

“To live in the heart we leave behind is not to die. Mama Indo as she is fondly called would forever live in our hearts and would certainly be sorely missed.

“She did not joke with Church service. Mama was an enigma. Her resolute spirit is worthy of emulation.

“Our family was poor but mama was determined that her children will not starve,” he said.

Also in her tribute, the deceased’s daughter, Funmi Olowoake, described her late mother to be supportive and caring, adding that she brought her children up in a Godly way.

“I had felt so comfortable with her being around that I never imagined there will be a time I will not see her again.

“She was what I would call my guardian angel. She was an exceptional woman.”

Wife of the General Overseer, Pastor Shade Olukoya, gave account of the first day she met her later mother in-law.

She described the deceased as a no- nonsense woman and tough, noting she united her extended family with true love, adding that she is honoured to be her daughter in-law.

  • Churches must support the cause of justice, says Falana

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has urged Christian leaders to lead by example by making sure justice prevails in the country.

Falana gave the charge while delivering a public lecture titled: “Justice as an instrument of enduring peace in nation building” at the 20th edition of Bishop Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture in Lagos last week.

According to him, justice and rule of law are considered essential to every civilised society.

He noted that a country without equality and justice is creating a dangerous society that may eventually destroy it.

Falana pointed out that the lopsidedness in the judicial system is a time bomb as it favours powerful people in the society to the detriment of the masses and the concept of justice.

“It is often said that the judiciary is the last hope of common man. This is a myth as the common man has no access to the court.

“The poor and the downtrodden are priced out of the legal system and even when they come to courts they are worsted in their encounter with the rich and powerful.

“They have come to regard law as their enemy rather than as their friend because they have always seen the wrong side of the law, law always being used against them rather than for their benefits.”

Falana said while the constitution guarantees equality of rights, obligations and opportunities before the law in practice, the rich and poor defendants are not treated equally by the courts.

He charged Okonkwo to use his good office and influence as a religious leader to ensure that Nigerians who have been illegally detained or imprisoned get justice, promising that he is ready to work with the church in this new crusade.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Folake solanke (SAN) applauded the organisers for promoting this crucial interrogation of critical topics for the edification of the populace.

“We cannot pretend that all is well with our beloved country. However, with policies and programmes like the Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture, the church is fulfilling its role to elevate the character of the nation,” she stated.

She said the lectures over the years have visibly demonstrated that the ministry of the Church does not end on the pulpit but must reach out to the people in other dimension of the society.

According to her, this focus of the lecture illustrated the holistic approach of the church to its mission.

Dr. Mike Okonkwo, Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, said the Church must play active role in the socio-economic development of the country.

He added it must also set agenda for a national discourse on the way forward.

He said over the years, the annual lecture has been in the forefront of agenda setting in socio-political development, noting this year’s edition will not be an exception as has the theme has rightly pointed out.

Dr. Okonkwo added that it was not enough to preach the gospel without creating an enabling environment for young people to blossom.

This, he said, informed the establishment of the Mike Okonkwo Educational & Youth initiative (MOEYI) aimed at empowering youths.

  • ‘For one-and-half year, I was blind for not doing God’s work’

Prophetess Onyinyechukwu Pricilla Edward is General Overseer Wind of Glory Ministry, Lagos. Sister, as she is popularly called, spoke with Ibrahim Adam on how she started the ministry, which celebrates its 10th in August. Excerpts:

How do you feel having nurtured this ministry for 10 years?

I thank God for everything. I thank God because it has not been easy.  So many people started such project but didn’t go far. I thank God for bringing me this far despite the challenges.

How did this journey of serving in the vineyard of God start for you?

It all started when I was about seven or eight years old. My parents then used to say that they don’t know what was wrong with me. When the Spirit of God comes upon me then, I will not know that it is the Spirit of God and I will have a message to go to certain villages, maybe in Imo State, Anambra or Enugu State. The Spirit of God will give me the address, the name of the family and the direction.

I will go there, locate the place and the people the way that I was directed and I will give them the message.  Sometimes I will spend between three to four days or even one week on such missions.

When I come back, my mother will say ‘leave Onyinyechukwu alone’ that she don’t know the type of child she gave birth to but my father will say, ‘leave her for me. What she is doing is something that in our family’.

My grandmother- my father’s mother- was a native doctor. My father used to remind us how his mother used to cure people with herbs and natural things.

My father wanted to be a priest but unfortunately he could not make it. It was only my father that understood what was happening to me in those early days. From that period I entered into the Charismatic group in the church.

When I got married, I started the work again at Palm Groove area in Lagos. When I had my first baby in 2005, I continued the work. But at some point I said I don’t want to do the work again because the burden and stress were so much on me.

I will be going up and down. When people come to the Ministry, I will tell them to go and look for another place that I don’t want to do the prayer ministry work again. When I stopped doing the work, I had serious headache which affected my eyes and I lost my sight.

At that point when I became blind, I didn’t know what to do. Some people said it was because I stopped the work of God.  My parents and others told me that if I start the work I will regain my sight.

But I told them that I don’t want to work again because I thought that the work is anytime I feel like, I do it. I was taken to Ikeja General Hospital for surgery.  After the surgery, I didn’t regain my sight. We went to Ikoyi Hospital for another surgery but all to no avail.

The blindness lasted for one and half years. After a year and six months, in October 6, 2007 to be precise, I had a dream where a man gave me water to use and that whatever I want God to do for me, I should use the water.

I later used the water and washed my eyes and my eyes opened. When my eyes opened, I gave God glory. With that stubbornness, I still said that I don’t want to do again; somebody will be sitting down seeing something that will happen tomorrow or next month.

I said let other people go and do the work because my three sisters are doing the same work too. I concluded they should continue that I don’t want to do it again.

At a time, I started business. My husband refused but I said I can’t stay indoors because I like moving out. One day as I was walking along the road, my two legs broke. I asked myself, what was going on. People came and told my husband to send me away that the suffering was too much.

They said since he married me, he never enjoyed peace even for one day. My husband told them that if he sends me away, he may not be doing the right thing.

The time I became blind, my people rejected me- my husband side and father’s side. It was only my father, my elder sister and my mother in-law that stood with me. Others said that the suffering was too much and that they can’t take it any longer.

When I met a mad woman at Ojota Bus Stop, she said ‘’my friend, I love you come let me tell you something’’. She said “I am the one doing all these to you, before you can be free, go and do my work”.

I asked the mad woman, which your work? The mad woman said I should go and buy chair, thank God that I was with some money. I bought the chair, Bible, bell and lantern. The mad woman said ‘because of the love I have for you, I am giving these things to go and start the work of God, use these chairs and sit down. As this bell is ringing, your ears will open like the bell. As I am putting light in this lantern, your eyes will be like this light.”

She added: “This Bible, use it and preach the word of God, use it and go to war, you will go and come back.” I asked the mad woman how I can start again because I had stopped the work for long.

She said “go home and leave the remaining one for me”. So when I finished with that mad woman, I carried all of those things and came back.  On entering my house, what I heard was a knock on my door. The person said she was looking for prophetess and I asked which prophetess.

From there, the number of people started increasing and I don’t know how God is doing it up till now.

What year did you meet the mad woman?

I met the mad woman in April 2010.

Have you had instances where people are delivered or you cast out demons and the problem which you resolved for the person comes back to haunt you?

As human beings we have challenges because at times when some things will happen or people were delivered from one problem or one attack or the other, some people will say how manage? Is it this small girl that is doing all these?

Let’s check whether she belong somewhere. Most times they will send somebody from the back to come and when the person comes, he or she will see a different thing from what was told.

This healing which I put in the ministry started right from when I was in secondary school. Sometimes I will be taken inside the bush and I will hear a voice “Onyinyechukwu, if you listen to me you will do many wonders” and I will say “who are you? I want to know the person that is speaking to me.”

I will hear “I am virgin Mary, mother Mary.” At times, I will hear “I am Jesus Christ of Nazareth, if you can obey my word, I will use you to cure so many sicknesses.”

I will be shown different leaves that will cure different diseases and sicknesses. The voice will say: “I am going to bless you with so many things, the things I am going to give you is for the world, don’t collect money from people. If I want to bless you, I will send people to bless you.” Since then, I have been trying my best because it is not easy as a human being.

How do you combine this prayer ministry work with your family as a married woman?

It is not easy but I thank God for the kind of man that I married. Most times he will behave like a man he is but most times he will say “I don’t want problems with God. Go, God has taken over my wife.” He takes care of the children anytime I travel for programmes. Most times, I will be away for four to five days. It will be just himself and the children.

What is your attitude to material acquisition?

People do give me gifts and I will I put it back into the ministry because of the message I got when I was in secondary school. God said He is going to give me everything but is not for me.

That anytime He is going to bless me, He will send people that will bless me. I have to obey because I don’t know the one I will do and I will offend God. I borrowed money from the bank to buy this property we are using, even the one we just acquired.

Is this ministry strictly Catholic or inter-denominational?

I am under Catholic Church but I am having problem with the Priests and some Reverend Fathers. They said I am too small to do this work, that I should look for any Parish of my choice here in Lagos to start this work.

I told them that I can’t do that because there are certain things I am doing that they might not allow me to do. They do not know when I started this work. I can remember when one Reverend Father came and I said no.

I gave him my father’s home address to go and verify where I come from. Any Parish I like, I go and worship and come back because I don’t know what is going on. There was a day I went to one Catholic Church in Ikorodu here, they refused to give me Holy Communion before the congregation because they said I am stubborn that I don’t want to listen to them and I said no problem and left.

This is just a ministry and not a church. So anybody is free to come and fellowship, pray and go back to his or her church. We are all in the race of trying to make heaven and to seek God’s anointing in resolving some problems. The devil and bad people are everywhere and we Christians must remain very prayerful.

You said there are some things you do which the Catholic Priest will not like, what are those things?

Like the healing work that I am doing, sometimes I will bring some leaves and some workers will help me to pound it for the work. There are some things I do here which they will not allow me to do.

So why are you combining prayer with herbs?

I am combining prayers with herbs because that was what God told me and He gives me the kind of herbs to use. Even women that carry pregnancy for more than their due dates when they come to me, God will tell me the type of herbs to cook and the dosage.

With faith, God will answer the person. The same thing with those looking for the fruit of the womb or some serious sicknesses and wounds including, rotten legs. God uses me to heal them.

How much do you charge people for healing?

I don’t collect a dime from people. Come and pray and let God heal you. Your thanksgiving is to God and not to Sister Onyinyechi or Wind of Glory Ministry.

  • Five basic facts you should know about human body

It’s important to know basic facts about the human body for health reasons, because ignorance can be costly. Here are five basic facts you should know about the human body.

    Stomach acid can dissolve metal

Yes, your stomach acid is in fact that acidic. The only reason the acid in your stomach doesn’t eat right through your body is because your stomach cells are renewed faster than they are destroyed.

    Weight affects ability to conceive

Being malnourished can negatively affect ovulation, because a minimum of 22 percent body fat is necessary for ovulation and reproductive competence. On the other hand, being overweight can also alter hormone chemistry and negatively affect ovulation. Not only does weight affect fertility, it also affects pregnancy. Thankfully, weight-related fertility issues can easily be remedied by shedding or gaining the required weight. So, if you are of an ideal or reasonable weight (a BMI between 19 and 25), you shouldn’t be going on crash diet or unnecessarily trying to lose weight.

Men also have a biological clock

Age can affect a man’s ability to conceive, it might not be as profound an effect like with women, but it’s an effect to consider nonetheless. Recently, researchers at Bristol and Brunel universities evaluated 8,500 couples to determine the impact of age on the length of time it takes to conceive. They discovered that while only 8 percent of the men failed to impregnate their partner after a year of trying, the number grew to 15 percent after age 35. Considering factors like the fact that a man’s sexual drive drops with age causing the frequency of sexual intercourse to drop, the study suggests that paternal age can also affect a couple’s ability to conceive.

After eating too much, your hearing is less sharp

Surprising right? Another reason why you should avoid eating too much.

Birth control choices have fertility implications

The method of contraception a woman has used can affect her fertility and impact conception. Therefore, it’s important for a woman to consult her doctor on the best birth control choices for her body. She should, in other words, carefully consider birth control choices before she decides she wants to get pregnant.
