Edo PDP crisis: Ogbeide-Ihama not expelled by Obaseki’s allies, insist ward exco

THE members of the executive of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State have denied expelling from the governing party in Edo, a former representative of Oredo constituency in the House of Representatives, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who is an ex-governorship aspirant on PDP’s platform.

Ward 2, Oredo executive of PDP, through the Chairman, Prince Kingsley Eleme; Secretary, Obadigie Jesuorobo; and 12 other members declared that the purported expulsion of Ogbeide-Ihama by allies of Governor Godwin Obaseki was laughable, null, void and a joke taken too far.

The ward 2 executive members stated that no such action was discussed or carried out by them, but a faceless group of people, who might have come into the party through the backdoor, claimed to have expelled the great leader of PDP (Ogbeide-Ihama).

They declared that the actors in the alleged expulsion were not members of the executive of ward 2, Oredo of PDP, and had no power to carry out any action, on behalf of the party, much less of expelling a leader of the capacity of Ogbeide-Ihama.

Ward 2 executive members of PDP in Oredo LGA said: “Rt. Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama remains not just a member of PDP, but a prominent and formidable leader of the party in Ward 2, Oredo and Edo State, while he continues to enjoy the total support of members of PDP in Ward 2, Oredo LGA.

“It is expected that anyone who loves the PDP should, at this point, be focused on actions that will unite the party, ahead of the crucial September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State.

“We warn the mischief makers and impostors to desist forthwith from their criminal and divisive actions that can potentially harm PDP’s chances of success in the forthcoming poll, particularly in Oredo LGA of Edo State.”

Edo State Working Committee (SWC) of PDP, on June 19 this year, claimed to have expelled with immediate effect, the National Vice Chairman, South South, of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who is the immediate Edo Chairman of PDP, for alleged anti-party activities.

A former Edo Deputy Governor, Comrade Phillip Shaibu, and the immediate representative of Oredo constituency of Edo state in the House of Representatives (Ogbeide-Ihama) were equally expelled from the PDP, with immediate effect, also for alleged anti-party activities.

Edo Publicity Secretary of PDP, Ogie Vasco, disclosed that the SWC meeting was attended by nine members at the party’s state secretariat on Airport Road, Benin.

Vasco said: “The SWC extensively deliberated on the issue and resolved to expel, with immediate effect, Chief Dan Orbih and Comrade Phillip Shaibu. SWC also upheld the expulsion of Ogbeide-Ihama from Ward 2, Oredo LGA of Edo State.”

Edo Chairman of PDP, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, also confirmed the expulsion of the three chieftains of the party.

Shaibu and Ogbeide-lhama, last week, donated their governorship campaign offices and other facilities in Benin, to the governorship candidate of the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo, while Orbih was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as a member of the governing board of the Federal College of Education, Umunze in Anambra State.

PDP’s national vice chairman, Southsouth, who is one of the allies of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, while reacting, declared that members of SWC of PDP in Edo had no power to expel him or any other member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
