Bandits yesterday killed three persons and kidnapped 13 others when they invaded Damari town in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The bandits also looted shops in the community.
Chairman, Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU), Ishaq Usman Kasai, said in a statement that the bandits launched the attack shortly after the Ansaru terrorist group protecting the community withdrew.
He said the bandits who came on motorcycles operated for about an hour.
Kasai said the Ansaru terrorist group had earlier engaged the bandits in a fierce fight.
The terror group had promised to defend some Birnin Gwari communities after capturing them.
The statement reads: “On July 25, around 6:00 pm, bandits in large number on motorcycles, wielding sophisticated weapons, invaded Damari town of Kazage Ward in the Eastern part of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
“They killed three people: Hashimu Dan-Daura, Nazifi Adamu and Alhaji Dangude.
“The bandits operated in the town stylishly unchallenged for about an hour.
“The bandits also returned the following day and forcefully looted many shops in the town.
“On their way back to the forests, they kidnapped 13 persons at Hayin-Gada of the same Damari community.
“The attacks came after Ansaru members who were defending the locals deserted the area for about four days now.
“The Ansaru members clashed with the bandits when they earlier invaded the town on 13th July 2022 during which private hospitals, two vehicles and one shop were burnt.”
