Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has said that the fleeing terror groups operating in the state, Ali Kawaje, Yello Jambros, Kachalla Halilu and Bello Turji planted explosives, including the recent ones detected by security operatives in Galadima-Kogo in Shiroro Local Government Area.
Bello, who said this when he visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Central Primary School Gwada, Shiroro Local Government Area assured the people that the police bomb-detecting experts are working hard to detonate the recently discovered explosives.
Describing as unfortunate the activities of informants who largely contributed to the exploits by the terror groups, the governor said with the arrest of many of them by security operatives in the past few weeks, the IDPs would soon go back to their homes to start life afresh.
Governor Bello, who spoke shortly after visiting the facilities said about 4, 000 IDPs in Gwada Camp, comprising those displaced by bandits and water backwashed due to the ongoing construction of Zungeru Hydro Dam are taking shelter therein.
Bello, who also interacted with the men of the State Vigilante Corps being trained to complement conventional security operatives, promised to equip them with modern fighting tools and logistics to enable them to confront criminals operating in the localities.
Apart from equipping the vigilante groups, Bello said more conventional security operatives have been deployed to Niger State and new strategies were been adopted in dealing with the security situation.
Governor Bello pleaded with the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Power to commence the compensation of communities displaced by the ongoing Zungeru Hydro Dam project.
He also visited the District Head of Galadima-Kogo, Aliyu Umar Gurumana who told him that they were desirous of returning to their ancestral homes to prepare for the next farming season as the rainy season was fast approaching.
