A 31-year-old banker, Olumide Oluseye, who allegedly assaulted his wife and one-year-old daughter, was yesterday granted a temporary reprieve on the order of an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
He was granted N20, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Oluseye was said to have injured his daughter strapped to her mother’s back during the physical assault unleashed on his wife.
According to the prosecuting Sergeant Lucky Ihiehie, the accused, who works with one of the new generation banks, committed the offences on July 24 at his residence located at Hassan Street, Ikosi-Ketu, a Lagos suburb.
Ihiehie said the complainant (Mrs Oluseye) reported the incident in company of four others at Ketu Police Station.
“She reported that her husband violently abused her and her one-year-old baby by beating and trying to choke her to death. She also claimed that both her mother-in-law and sister-in-law also joined her husband in assaulting her. She said all efforts to get her husband’s family members to caution him failed,” Ihiehie said.
The offences contravened Sections 170 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The husband pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bordering on assault occasioning harm preferred against him.
Counsel to the accused, Mr. O. F. Jegede, urged the court to admit him to bail on liberal terms.
Magistrate O. Sule-Amzat adjourned the case to September 29.
