Members of the Southwest Elders’ Forum of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), have raised the alarm over plot by the embattled President of the union, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, to secure second term through the backdoor. They alleged that he was planning to organise a kangaroo delegate conference despite that two courts are hearing the cases challenging his eligibility to run for a second term.
A statement signed by Pa Samuel Jonah and Alhaji Moshood Ajao, chairman and coordinator titled: ‘Clandestine moves by Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa to secure second term through backdoor’ said: “The industrial court sitting in Lagos on July 20, 2023 adjourned the case instituted against Baruwa by the National Vice President of the union, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede and six others from Southwest states (Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos and Osun states), challenging his eligibility to run for a second term.

“Also, another industrial court sitting in Abuja has adjourned a case against him for the same election.
“However, despite the positions of the two courts, we heard from sources that Baruwa and his cohorts are making moves to hold a delegate conference on August 8, 2023, where he will be imposed on the union for a second term.”
The Southwest leaders urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Director of State Security Services (DSS) to call Baruwa and his men to order, as any attempt to hold any illegal delegate conference is total disregard to the courts hearing the cases
“We as law-abiding citizens have taken the normal cause by instituting legal actions against him and the normal thing is to wait for the legal process to wait for the court to decide by giving judgment on the matter before it, instead of employing self- help.
“We want law enforcement agencies to prevent a breakdown of law and order by calling Baruwa and his men to order, as any attempt to impose him on the union for another four years will be resisted by legal means.”
