Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar has restored the benefits of former Bauchi State Deputy Governor Alhaji Mohammed Garba Gadi.
Gadi died in August. The late Gadi was elected with immediate past Governor Isa Yuguda in 2007. Barely one year after their election,Yuguda defected to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) without Gadi. He was removed from office on August August 13,2009 for alleged gross misconduct.
He went to court to reverse thedecision,which he claimed,”I was not fairly,and treated according to legal or according to Constitutional provisions”
A High Court in Bauchi returned the late former Deputy Governor to his office,but state authority denied him and appealed to Appeal Court. He died while his case was pending at the Supreme Court.
A statement by Press Secretary to the Bauchi governor,Abubakar Al-Sadique, in Bauchi yesterday said the governor’s action was in compliance with powers conferred on the State Governor by Section 5 (2) (a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
The statement added:”By this condonation, all benefits and entitlements of the former Deputy Governor, late Alhaji Mohammed Garba Gadi are hereby reinstituted and are to be paid forthwith.”
The statement further explained” this notice supersedes any prior proclamation, litigation or instruments as it relates to the former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Garba Gadi”.
“The condonation comes with the death of the former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Garba Gadi and the subsequent discontinuation of the matter pending before the Supreme Court Tuesday.”
