Bayelsa panel to recommend workers’ sack over absenteeism, fraud

The Bayelsa State Advisory Committee on Public Service Reforms ‎has said it would recommend the sack of civil servants indicted for absenteeism and wage bill fraud.

The Chairman of the committee and paramount ruler of Twon-Brass Kingdom, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, who spoke to stakeholders in Brass local government area of the state, said the ongoing reforms had shown workers would be dropped from the service.

Diette-Spiff said: “Some workers have to be dropped. We cannot have people that do not work but are receiving salaries. We cannot have people whose names appear in different payment vouchers.”

Spiff, who is also the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, noted that local government funds were meant for developmental projects and not for payment of salaries.

He also commended the Brass local government Chairman, Mr. Bello Bina, for hosting his team when it visited the council area to sensitize the people of Brass particularly civil servants on the merits of the “No Work No Pay” policy.
