Boko Haram isolated on Lake Chad islands

Elements of Boko Haram terrorists have been rooted out of their last stronghold in Malamfatori on the outskirts of Baga town in Borno State. A  few remnants have been isolated on island on the Lake Chad.

This disclosure was made by the Commander 7 Special Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General Saram when the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas undertook an on the spot assessment of the Naval Out Post (NOP), Lake Chad, on the outskirts of Baga town.

The CNS, who was received at the NOP  by Alhaji Modu Musa, the  Chief of Staff to Governor Kashim Shettima, lamented that the area used to be a trading  base with links to the Republic of  Chad where several forms of commodities were traded.

He  called on the CNS and other security organisations to help eliminate the remnants of the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) on the Islands and restore it to its former position as a cross border trading post.

The   Commander   Naval   Out   Post   Lake   Chad,   Captain   Dangwell  lamented the wanton destruction that had taken  place   in   the area resulting in the disruption of not only essential support facilities but also all forms of telecommunications.

The CNS also  inspected the temporary accommodation site at the College of Fresh Water Fisheries at Baga as well as facilities at the temporary site at the Fish Dam about 8 kilometers North East of the College.

The   CNS  assured the community that the Nigerian Navy would help improve security as well as provide certain immediate reliefs including medical care to the community.
