Borehole driller ‘hits’ man with plank

A borehole driller, Waliu Ogundele, was yesterday arraigned for allegedly beating a 70-year-old man (septuagenarian) with a plank.

The accused is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecuting Sergeant Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offences on June 7 at Lasisi Osofa Street, Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos.

Perezi told the court that the accused and others now at large attacked a septuagenarian, Sunmonu Mukaila, by beating him up with the intent to steal.

“The accused and his accomplices cut one of Mukaila’s hands with a cutlass; but for the timely intervention of Mukaila’s neighbours, the accused would have killed the old man,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the septuagenarian’s neighbours, however, apprehended the accused while his accomplice escaped.
