Brazil, India and Peru headline 13 countries gearing up to participate in the 2025 First Abia Para Badminton International slated for Abia State, Nigeria from the 30th September to 5th October.
The first-ever Para Badminton International, will be staged at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, marking a major milestone for the sport in the South-East State, Nigeria and in West Africa.
Confirming the news, the National Coordinator Para Badminton, Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BCN), and Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the events Ekeoma Samuel reiterated the State Government’s resolve to give the competition the international outlook it requires.
”Abia State as the host, we are doing all our best, to make the tournament a very wonderful one” Ekeoma stated
Apart from the host country Nigeria, the Asian country of India has prepared the largest contingent (37) to the 6-day event that will have country-representatives from across the 3 continents of the world at the event, including South America.

”Currently, we have 13 countries” Ekeoma responded when asked about the number of registered countries.
”Benin Republic (10), Brazil (8) Burkina Faso (1) Cameroon (4) Congo Democratic (5) Egypt (10) India (37) Mauritius (2) Nigeria (48) Peru (6) Rwanda (1) Tunisia (2) Zambia (2), so these are the top countries that are in the forefront for the tournament” He added.
Ekeoma called on the National Sports Commission (NSC) to take preparations for the Nigerian contingent seriously.
The 2025 1st Abia Para Badminton International ended on 5th September paving the way for Africa Para Badminton Championships 2025-another 6-day event primed to keep the state agog with two-week long sporting activities involving 10 African countries.
