The two chambers of the National Assembly today resumes plenary after the Christmas and New Year break.
Both chambers adjourned plenary on December 22 after receiving the 2016 Appropriation Bill from President Muhammadu Buhari.
As lawmakers resume plenary, top on the agenda is the passage of the bill, of which the Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki assured Nigerians of a good job.
President Buhari presented a budget of N6.08 trillion to a joint session on December 22.
The standing committees are expected to invite ministers and heads of agencies to defend their proposals.
Besides, some top priority bills, such as the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill, (PIB) and the methodological implementation of the Senate Legislative Agenda, would be considered.
The Senate adopted as part of its agenda to “reposition itself as an effective, efficient and capable legislative chamber working to improve living conditions and governance.”
It noted that “the 2015 election marked a watershed in Nigeria’s democratic development and Nigerians expect to see government evolve and be more responsive to their needs and expectations.”
The Senate promised to work with the House of Representatives to curtail wastages, entrench probity, accountability and transparency.
