•New Year: FRSC boss seeks collective vigilance against road carnage
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Deputy Corps Marshal Dauda Biu as the substantive Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, confirmed the presidential approval.
Biu has been the Acting Corps Marshal of the corps since July 2022.
The new Corps Marshal is the second career worker to be appointed in that capacity, after Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, the erstwhile Corps Marshal who retired in July.
Biu was born in Zaria, Kaduna State, but hails from Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.
He joined the FRSC in 1988 and rose through hard work, dedication and commitment to attain the rank of Deputy Corps Marshal.
The new Corps Marshal has held several positions within the service, including Acting Corps Marshal and Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts, among others.
Biu holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in Kaduna State.
Also, Biu has urged the motoring public to sustain collective vigilance against the menace of road traffic crashes in the country.
Biu said this in his 2023 New Year message in which he applauded the road safety stakeholders for sustaining the campaigns in the outgoing year and appealed for sustenance in the new year.
A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Mr. Bisi Kazeem, said the Corps Marshal expressed appreciation to all FRSC workers and other critical stakeholders for the commitment they demonstrated during the end of year special patrol.
He urged them to remain vigilant in the new year.
Biu called for more efforts to consolidate on the gains of the campaigns recorded last year in order to restore sanity on the nation’s roads and confidence of road users in the use of road transportation.
The FRSC boss reiterated the importance of the ongoing global campaign for safer road environment by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
This, he said, was under the auspices of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety: 2021-2030 and the role that individual and corporate organisations could play in its realisation.
Biu enjoined every Nigerian to embrace the ideals of the road safety campaign for the nation to stand out in the evaluation of the success of the global efforts against road carnage.
He said Nigeria was one of the member nations of the UN which activated the global road safety campaign in 2010 and had remained active in ensuring its success over the years.
