Buhari in New York for 71st UN session

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday arrived New York, United States, ahead of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Mr Femi Adesina, special adviser on Media and Publicity, confirmed this development in his twitter page yesterday.

President Buhari departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday for the New York trip, where  he will attend the UN General Assembly today.

A statement earlier by Adesina in Abuja, said the President would deliver a statement at the opening of the General Debate of the Assembly, on: “The Sustainable Development Goals: a Universal Push to Transform our World”.

He said President Buhari would also deliver a keynote address on “Taking Climate Action Towards Sustainable Development in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin”.

Adesina said the President would attend a high-level summit, hosted by the UN, on “Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants’’.

According to him, President Buhari will also attend meetings as well as side events, which are of interest to Nigeria.

President Buhari and his U.S. counterpart, President Barack Obama, will meet on tomorrow in New York, on the sidelines of the US leader’s final appearance at the UN General Assembly session.

The 71st UN General session will be President Buhari’s second appearance since he assumed office on May 29, 2015.
