Although no prior information was provided to indicate if it was planned, the President earlier presided over an emergency National Security Council meeting before jetting out of Abuja.
He also attended the opening ceremony of the conference and retreat for senior police officers in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The terse tweet by his spokesman said the President is expected back in the second week of November.
