‘Buhari on right track to develop economy’

President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Titus Soetan has said the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari  is on a right direction.

He spoke in Ibadan this weekend at the 60th anniversary of HLB Z.O. Ososanya & Co., an accounting firm.

According to him, Nigerians should stop condemning Buhari’s administration because the economic challenge emanated from lack of savings and development of infrastructure during the oil boom.

“I can see perfectly, the readiness of this government to salvage the economic situation because I understand the challenges. The reason for the economic challenge is that our income has reduced by 60 per cent.

“If your salary was cut to N40,000 from N100,00, would you still live the same way? Won’t you cut your expenses? Yes, Buhari was elected to serve us but he met a lot of rot in the system”, he said.

Soetan, therefore, advised the government to curb corruption to move the economy forward. He urged the government to inject money into the economy to spend on essentials as construction, infrastructure, noting that by so doing, people will be engaged, thus earn salaries.

The ICAN chief urged Nigerians to refrain from importing goods, adding that “the implication of this is that we are providing jobs for people in the importing countries and reducing available jobs in our country”.
