President Muhammadu Buhari has described the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Amb. Prof. George Obiozor, as a great diplomat who left indelible marks on the sands of time. Obiozor who was buried on Friday at his country home at Awo-Omamma in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, died December12, 2022. Speaking at the Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri President Buhari said Prof. Obiozor who was a distinguished academician, consummate diplomat, accomplished elder statesman, tenacious patriot and a foremost Igbo leader who would be missed by all Nigerians.
Represented by Minister of State for Science and Technology, Ikechukwu Ikoh, the President noted that Obiozor’s love for his country propelled to him to return to Nigeria to serve government in various positions. “He served the government in various positions including Director-General of the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, the High Commiss to Cyprus, the Nigerian ambassador to Israel from 1999 to 2003 a d the Nigerian Ambassador to the United States from 2004 to 2008.”
Governor Hope Uzodimma in his speech, advised everyone to bury their differences and pay befitting honour to Obiozor. “We may have our differences, we have disagreed in the past, the best thing you may have given to a man like George Obiozor is to give him the last respect, the honour of giving him a very benefitting burial,” the governor said.
The officiating Minister, Auxillary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Bishop Moses Chikwe in his sermon admonished parents to raise their children with the fear of God and to make them useful and faithful ambassadors of God just like Prof. Obiozor’s parents did. “Try to raise your children to be good on earth that is one of the goals why we are here. That was how George Obiozor was raised to become well known person globally,” he said. Chief Emmauel Iwuanyanwu recalled how the late Obiozor, by dint of hard work and God’s grace, rose from a relatively low background to the pinnacle of the society.
