Bayelsa Queens defeated TP Mazembe of DR Congo 2-0 in a CAF Women’s Champions League game last night, earning their first win in the competition.
Chinyere Igboamalu scored the second for Bayelsa Queens FC after a cross from Sunday in the 24th minute. Miracle Joseph had earlier given the Prosperity Girls the lead via a penalty in the 4th minute.
Bayelsa Queens are on course for the semifinals of the CAF Women’s Champions League as they are expected to beat Wadi Degla of Egypt in their final group game on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian champions were thoroughly routed 4-0 by defending champion Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies to record the biggest win in finals history. They are the first team to score five goals in a game at the finals.
Both teams came into the contest with varying fortunes as the title holders sought to continue from a 2-1 opening victory over Bayelsa Queens, the Egyptians were looking to bounce back from an unfortunate 1-0 loss to TP Mazembe on Monday.
