Cash rewards for travellers on Lagos waters

Residents who use Lagos waterways for commuting and business will be rewarded, according to Managing Director of Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) Abdoulbaq Ladi-Balogun.

Ladi-Balogun, who spoke at a news conference, said the waterways were now safe.

He said cash rewards were introduced for users to enjoy use of the waterways.

Ladi-Balogun noted that more boats would be available soon, adding this would give business and commuting a broader outlook with firm control and regulation.

Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke said the core value of the initiative was to create a responsive path to meet the needs of Lagosians.

She said the initiative was conceived ‘to better the lives of Lagosians’, adding the ‘success is for every Lagosian to get benefits for every purchase with instant rewards’.

General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) Damilola Emmanuel said the government, in bid to boost safety, employed more officers for proper monitoring of the waterways and increase patrol for rescue mission.

He said mechanisms were in place for access to petrol on the waterways.  Emmanuel noted that the state would inaugurate a broad-based command and control centre to monitor activities on the waterways to respond to incidents.
