Chief Ugochukwu Okeke, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried late deployment of electoral Officials and materials for the supplementary election for Anambra gubernatorial contest in Ihiala Council Area.
Ugochukwu spoke shortly after casting his vote at PU 20, Odoata Central School, Uzoakwa, in Ihiala LGA about 2 pm .
He regretted that four hours was lost to deployment of logistics for the exercise which was supposed to commence at 10.am
The Chieftain who is a former gubernatorial aspirant under the the platform of the PDP said he was happy that the BVAS captured him in less than three minutes while expressing hope the efficiency of the machine would keep improving .
He commended security agencies for the relative peace in thea area but expressed concern about six communities which had been identified as hotspots and were yet to get deployment of men and material.
The communities, he noted, included Mbosi, Azia, Iseke, Orsumoghu, Ubuluisiuzo and Lilu
Ugochukwu, who is the Secretary of the PDP Campaign Council in Anambra state, called on INEC to ensure that every eligible voter in those areas votes in every part of Ihiala.

He urged the Electoral body to consider extending the period of voting beyond four pm to make up for the lost time before the exercise started.
“As you can see I have just cast my vote and this is about ten minutes after two and I was the third person to vote in my polling unit, the process of verification was fast but there were delays in some cases.
“I am calling on INEC to improve on the technology.
“INEC told us that they will be here as early as possible but you can see the delay we experienced, I am calling on them to ensure every eligible voter in Ihiala cast his or her vote, and I am sure that, that way, PDP will spring surprises,” he said.
On his part, Mr CDon Adinuba, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment in Anambra expressed confidence that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would extend its lead at the end of the Ihiala election.
Adinuba blamed the late deployment of electoral officials and materials on traffic congestion and peculiar security situation in the area.
He said Ihiala remained a stronghold of APGA and that the party was expecting about 90 per cent share of total votes cast.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there were stil electoral materials waiting for deployment at Ihiala LGA headquarters at the time of filing the report. (NAN)
Police in Anambra State said nobody was killed during the ongoing governorship supplementary Election in Ihiala Local Government Area.
Some soldiers patrolling around the distribution/Collation Centre at the Council Area Headquarters were said to have allegedly shot dead a yet-to-be-identified man.
Former National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and state party agent for the Anambra governorship election, Sen. Victor Umeh, was on Tuesday refused entrance to the Ihiala Local Government Secretariat by security agencies.
Umeh, a state agent of the party who arrived at the secretariat around 10:30 am in the company of other party members, was turned back by the GOC, 82 Division.
There was a heavy presence of security personnel in and around the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State over the scheduled supplementary governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday announced a supplementary election in the Council Area following non-conduct of the exercise in the area with All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winning 18 of the local councils.
Acting Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Onwuasoanya Jones has praised what he described as the apparent impartiality of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.
Onwuasoanya, in a statement, said his organisation was satisfied with the conduct of the poll but regretted the hitches experienced in deploying the BVAS which he noted might have significantly discouraged a number of citizens who turned out to cast their votes.
According to him: “The exercise is not very disappointing. I believe that the results announced so far represent to a large extent the wishes of the majority of voters.
“We were all afraid that the President, being a member of a political party might want to interfere with the processes in order to favour his party. But, it is clear that he allowed the electoral process to run its full course. For that, we commend him.
“Preliminary reports from the Election Security Monitoring Committee set up by our organization to monitor the election also indicate that the Independent National Electoral Commission were mostly impartial and security agents deployed to secure the election were mostly professional in discharging their duties.
“Apart from reports of network and technical glitches reported in most polling stations across the State, which significantly disenfranchised potential voters, the INEC deserves commendations as long as this election is concerned.
“While this could be regarded as a an improvement from previous elections, the Commission needs to work harder in ensuring that the BVAS work more efficiently in future elections.”
Onwuasoanya further praised the Election Security Monitoring Committee led by Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu for its efforts, which contributed in no small measure to the successful conduct of the election.
While urging voters in Ihiala where a mop up election would be conducted on Tuesday to come out en masse to cast their votes, Jones warned against any attempts to manipulate the process to favour any candidate or political party.
“Nobody has the right to choose a Governor for Anambra people. Anambra people have spoken in 20 LGAs and they will conclude the talk in the remaining LGA by today.
“No one should toy with the idea of conjuring any form of electoral magic in Ihiala or anywhere else, there might be a rerun election,” he warned.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjusted the timeframe for voting in Tuesday’s supplementary election for Anambra governorship poll in Ihiala local government area.
It said voting will hold from 10am-4pm as against the 8:30am-2:30pm timeframe.
This was announced on Monday by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye
He said: “Following the suspension of collation of results in respect of the 2021 Anambra State Governorship election as announced yesterday, November 7, 2021 by the State Collation/Returning Officer and the decision of the Commission to hold election in Ihiala Local Government Area on Tuesday, November 9, the Commission in line with extant rules and regulations has made a slight adjustment to the commencement and closing time for the said election.
“Accordingly, polling in respect of the supplementary election for Ihiala Local Government will commence tomorrow at 10am and end at 4pm.
“This decision, which will be strictly complied with, has been taken following a careful review of the prevailing situation in Anambra state and is being widely shared with the stakeholders including security agencies.
“We urge political parties, voters, election duty officials, election observers, the media and the general public to note this slight modification. We also appeal to citizens to conduct themselves in an orderly manner to ensure that the election is brought to a peaceful conclusion.”
Ihiala local government area has a total of 148,000 registered voters, which the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Professor Chukwuma Soludo; his APC counterpart Senator Andy Uba and Mr Valentine Ozigbo of PDP will vie for.
Soludo leads the pack in 18 local government areas out of 21 announced by INEC while Ozigbo and Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP won one LGA each.
Anambra governorship supplementary election holds on Tuesday in Ihiala local government area of the State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not conduct an election in the area last Saturday because it failed to deploy any person there over security concerns.
The commission, after deliberation on Sunday night with security operatives, announced the supplementary poll will hold on Tuesday.
