    Mosan-Okunola distributes palliatives to residents

    The Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area has distributed food items to community members and council staff.

     The event, which took place at the Secretariat, was attended by representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), League of Imam of Alfas and community leaders.

     Council Chairman Adebisi Adebajo said that the current economic situation called for urgent intervention, adding that the distribution exercise would cut across the council political wards.

    She stated that the intervention would go a long way in helping the masses cope with financial pressure of the moment.

     Mrs. Adebajo said: “In cushioning the effect of subsidy removal, we know what is going on with our economy. We want to assure our people that this programme of palliatives distribution is going to be a continuous one. We will try as much as possible to support and assist our people because of the situation of the economy in the country. I assured them that next month we are going to do better by the special grace of God.”

     She said the items given were rice, garri, beans, sugar, and tomatoes, among others.

    The council boss urged the residents to support the leadership with prayers.

    Vice Coordinator of CAN in Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Felicia Bakare, expressed appreciation to the chairman for the gesture.

     “We really appreciate her and we pray that Almighty God continue to strengthen her. She promised us a lot of things and I believe she is going to do it,” she said.

    An Islamic cleric, Abdul Salam Agbede, thanked the chairman for her kind gesture.

    Iyaloja-General of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area Elizabeth Ogunlade lauded the effort of the chairman and urged her to add more food items in the package that would be given next.

    All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in the area, Alhaji Waheed Orire, advised the residents to exercise patience as the items would go round.

    NANS inaugurates new diaspora president, other leaders

    The National Association of Nigerian Students in Diaspora (NANS-D) has inaugurated new members of its executive council, led by Abdulrazak Abdulrahman Abubakar, a student at a higher institution in South Africa.

    NANS-D had earlier in the year elected new leaders.

    The inauguration was held on Sunday and witnessed by the Vice President, External Affairs of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, who represented the President of the Association.

    A statement from the association read, “Today, the National Association of Nigerian Student in Diaspora inaugurated the newly elected executives.

    “The programme witness the presence of dignitries ranging from the student bodies, private sectors and public opion leaders and the NANS-Nigeria representative Comr Akinteye Babatunde Afeez. NANS National Vice President (External Affairs).

    “The programme was coordinated and directed by the then constituted interim executives lead by Comr. Opeoluwa Seun Ojekemi (Phd) from Turkey zone.

    “The programme kicked off by 12:00pm Nigerian time, and after visiting the preceeding business of the day, Comr. Abdulrazak Abdulrahman Abubakar a master of financial engineering candidate from the university of johannesburg South Africa was sworn in as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Diaspora along side other executive members and senators by Vice President external NANS-Nigeria.

    “In his outgoing speech the interim Chairman Comr. Opeoluwa Seun Ojekemi (Phd) congratulated the newly electwd executives while auging them to consolidated on his achieves. In the same vain, the Vice President External affairs NANS-Nigeria Comr Akinteye Babatunde Afeez joint the chairman in congratulating the newly sworn in excos and assured them of his constant support and collaboration for the betterment of the association.

    “While responding to the congratulatry messages and in his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated president of NANS-Diaspora Comr. Abdulrazak Abdulrahman Abubakar posited that taking NANS-Diaspora to the next enviable level will be the focus of the newly inaugurated leaders, this he promise to achieve by first consoliding on the amazing achievments of the past leaders and chatting new causes that will be of a measurable value to the association and Nigerian Students at large.”

    Other inaugurated officials are Ahmed Tijani Musa, Vice President 1 (China); Muhammad Ibrahim, Vice President 2 (Togo); Muhammad Sanusi, General Secretary (Egypt); Muhammad Yusuf Yunusa, Assistant General Secretary (Tunisia); Chibuike Divine, Public Relations Officer 1 (Turkey) and Emmanuella Emehim, Legal Adviser (Uganda).

    National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has scored the highest votes at the ongoing presidential primary of the party in Abuja.

    He polled 1, 271 votes to defeat others after collation and counting of the accreditation votes at the primary.

    I’m most qualified of all candidates, says Amaechi

    Immediate Past Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has claimed he is the most qualified aspirant to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.

    He urged the delegates not to be deceived by the money aspirants give them but vote for competence and track records, which he represent.

    He said: “Your Excellency and delegates, I just turned 57. I may not not be the youngest candidate but I am not the oldest candidate.

    “I am the most experienced of all the candidates. I was elected Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I served for two terms. While serving as a speaker, I was the Chairman of the State Speakers of Nigeria twice. After that , I became the Governor of Rivers State and served for two terms. I was also elected Chairman of Governors forum twice.

    “Your Excellency, by your grace and the Grace of God, you appointed the Ministry for Transportation; again, I served twice. Your Excellency, you appointed me the Director General of your campaign, and again I served twice. I am the first Nigeria to have in conjunction with others led a campaign that removed the siting government to bring in the opposition. I worked so hard with sleepless nights to bring our President.

    “All those who have come here to speak should have told Nigerians what they have done in their states. Judge me by my work. When I became the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the railway was moribund. Today, there are railways across the country.

    “Please delegates, assess us by our contributions. Don’t access us by how much we bring here; if it is by how much we bring here, as all of us – what is our source of revenue and income? Don’t vote for me if I lie to you.

    “Don’t vote for me if I have not performed, but I have performed. I have decided with my wife and children, friends and relations, that there is a need to move forward – to come forward to serve the country for Nigerians to hire me, and to fire me if I do not deliver.”

    South East deserves presidency, says Onu

    A presidential aspirant, Ogbonnaya Onu, who was the immediate past Minister of Science and Technology, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure justice and fairness in its dealings.

    He reminded the APC leadership that the South West and South South regions of the country has produced President and Vice President in the country while the South East has not produced either President or Vice President.

    Reminding the APC that he singlehandedly paid for the registration of the party, he urged the party to ensure justice and equity to ensure peace within the party and in the country.

    Speaking during his address, he said: “I am going to build on the work already done by this administration and previous leaders of our great nation. Nigeria is destined by God to be a great nation. Nigeria is a nation to grow enough food for its people and export the surplus, and to ensure our Naira regains its strength it used to have before.

    “Using science, technology and innovation, and encouraging entrepreneurship and ensuring Nigerians are educated,.and making it compulsory at the primary and secondary levels, will make Nigeria ranked in the stature of the USA and China.

    “That is why I decided to run for President and make sure we build a nation that every Nigerian will be happy to be a citizen of.

    “We will allocate 2 per cent of GDP to science, technology and innovation within two years. We will create a one trillion Naira fund for job creation, especially for the youths.

    “I appeal to the leadership of APC, you know the role I played in bringing APC into being. I paid for the money that was used to register APC. We must uphold the motor of APC to ensure justice, peace and prosperity.

    “After the President, it should be somebody from. The South East to succeed him, it will strengthen the unity of Nigeria.

    “The southwest have had 8 years as President and Vice President, South South have had President, where is the justice. We need to do what is right.”
