    Aregbesola’s influence in Osun politics gone, he is embarking on futile journey – Lasun

    The former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf has described the recent outburst of ex-minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola against All Progressives Congress (APC) and his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, as empty.

    The Nation recalled that Aregbesola who launched his faction named Omoluabi Caucus blamed Oyetola for APC’s defeat during the 2022 Osun gubernatorial election.

    Aregbesola bragged that his caucus would make a drastic decision by determining the future of Osun state politically which no one will have any say over.

    Meanwhile, Yusuf who abandoned APC for Labour Party in 2022 before joining Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 held that Aregbesola is embarking on a futile endeavour by struggling to become a political leader in Osun state.

    Yusuf speaking during a political programme, Oro Oselu (Political Talk) on a private radio station, Rave FM in Osogbo monitored by our correspondent stated that the erstwhile minister of the interior could only struggle but he would never become a leader of any political system in the state.

    He said: “I can’t be happy if any evil thing befalls Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. I always wish him good. We were together; we have come a long way; in fact we spent quality time together in politics but what I know is that his terrain of influence is gone in the political firmament of Osun; he cannot be a leader of any political system in the state again.

    “Though he tried to ensure that Progressive retain power in Osun while exiting office, what I know is that he is only trying but it is too late to become a leader in the state as he has been struggling to.

     “I said this because I knew that he became a governor by collective leadership. Just as I couldn’t become a governor as I wished so also that it is not easy for him to become the leader of any political system that he wishes to be. For him to be saying he would let people know where he is going before the end of this year, is nothing but a ruse; time has passed by on that; life doesn’t wait for such.”

    Police arraign skit maker over false information in Abia

    The Abia state police command has filed charges against a skit maker named MC Sweet, who is based in Aba over a video he posted where he allegedly accused Ngwa people of opposing the ongoing reconstruction work on Port Harcourt road, and demanding compensation from the Abia government before the work could continue.

    Our correspondent recalled that the skit maker had claimed that the said youths and community leaders were allegedly lured to Umuahia, the state capital where they were arrested and subsequently detained in police custody at the orders of Governor Alex Otti.

    The state government had earlier debunked the claim.

    The skit maker, our correspondent reports, was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Aba South local government area of the state.

    The arrest and subsequent arraignment of the skitmaker was said to have followed a petition written to the Abia State Police Commissioner by Aba Ngwa People’s Forum that was irked by the post from the skirtmaker.

    The Chief Magistrate, Erinna Enyeribe, was said to have granted him bail while adjourning the case to February 29.

    Japa: Lagos to build 1500-capacity medical varsity

    To counter the mass exodus of doctors and other medical personnel, the Lagos state government will, this year, build a medical university targeted at graduating 1,500 doctors yearly.

    Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who spoke while inaugurating the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital in Surulere facilitated by the Chief of Staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila in his Surulere federal constituency, said construction of the new varsity will commence and be completed this year.

    Sanwo-Olu disclosed further that the varsity will be built in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

    He explained that the facility is needed following advice from the Federal authorities that the state needed to scale up the number of medical personnel it produces in the light of the shortage of medical health practitioners due to japa.

    He added that because of his spontaneity, his woman didn’t even believe he was serious and he had to get up and wear the ring on her finger.

    The Movie star stated: “I did get on one knee for the culture. But there was no one to record. I couldn’t set up for a content shoot (Steals the spontaneity). Even she didn’t believe me. I just got up and wore the ring on her finger.”
