Why we have not concluded investigation on MohBad’s death – Police

The Lagos State Police Command has given an update on the investigation on the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as MohBad.

The state lolice spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated in an interview with Punch that they wouldn’t rush the investigation without proper direction or embark on a guesswork.

He emphasised the need to wait for the autopsy report as he claimed the command hasn’t received the report from the pathologists.

Hundeyin disclosed the situation report on the deceased in a bid to respond to the demands of a civil society organisation, the Take It Back Movement, who during a Thursday press conference in Ikeja, Lagos, sought the conclusion of the investigation into Mohbad’s case.

The Head of the Gender Department of the group, Omolola Pedro, in a statement called on the police to “stop the needless delays, make public its findings from the investigation, and protect the rights of the deceased’s wife and child.”

The organisation also feared that prolonged delay in the probe was capable of exposing MohBad’s wife, Wumi, and child, Liam “to several attacks like cyberbullying, cyberstalking, organised malicious campaigns against their persons, and even physical harassment” alleging that this was “the same fate MohbBad suffered while he was alive.”

Pedro added that the police “must immediately conclude the investigation and make its findings public.”

Reacting to this, Hundeyin said: “We’re not the pathologists who carried out the autopsy

“When they (the pathologists) give us their report, we’ll conclude our investigation. For now, that’s what we’re waiting for. Except they want us to do guesswork, we can’t guess; we need to get the report and see the content of the result and we don’t have it yet.”

The Nation reported that MohBad on September 12, 2023 died under mysterious circumstances which sparked rage amongst netizens and also prompted the Nigeria police to set up an investigative team to determine what led to the singer’s demise.

Recall that, Hundeyin had tweeted in September that an “autopsy has been concluded” on Mohbad’s corpse and the police were “awaiting result.”

JUST IN: Two policemen die as gunmen attack PDP leader, Chris Uba’s convoy in Anambra

The convoy of a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chris Uba was Thursday night in Uga, Aguata local government area of Anambra state attacked by gunmen.

Though he escaped in his bullet proof vehicle, two policemen were gunned down by the hoodlums.

The Nation further gathered that another politician who escaped by whiskers was the Labour Party’s governorship hopeful and former PDP governorship candidate in 2019 in the state, Valentine Ozigbo

According to a source, the vehicles in Uba’s convoy were riddled with bullets.

The source said: “We witnessed what happened. Chris Uba’s convoy ran into the men who were stationed at UGA junction, leading to a shoot out.

“Uba was able to escape because he was riding in a bullet proof vehicle, but the policemen were not so lucky as they were killed.

“Val Ozigbo was coming back from Owerri with members of his family when he suddenly saw a convoy driving ferociously toward his own convoy, and attempting to edge him off the road. He quickly told his driver’s to clear off the road let the other convoy pass by.

“Shortly after they overtook Ozigbo, they ran into the gunmen at UGA junction who started shooting, and killed two police men. Ozigbo who parked while the incident was happening, later learnt that the convoy that was attacked was that of Uba.”

Recall that last year, another top politician in the state, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy was equally attacked at Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka local government area, where four of his security men and two staff were killed by gunmen

When The Nation called Chris Uba’s phone, it rang out unpicked

However, following serial attacks that happened on Thursday in Aguata, the local government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, police authorities said they had launched a man hunt for the assailants

This was revealed in a statement in Awka Friday by the police public relations officer DSP Tochukwu Ikenga and made available to reporters

He said: “Anambra state Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for armed insurgents who infiltrated from a neighbouring State and killed two Police Personnel on 28th December 2023 at about 18.30 hours (6.30 p.m.)

“The gang which disguised in military fatigue and seemed to be on a kidnap mission were jolted on seeing two armed Police officers approaching their direction.

“They opened fire on the officers who had moved ahead of the convoy they were escorting to decongest traffic gridlock. Other personnel returned fire, careful not to hit many motorists who were in traffic, forcing the bandits to flee.

“Police-led mobile Forward Operating Base which had been on intensive patrol of the entire area throughout Christmas celebrations promptly responded to the scene.

“It recovered a Lexus SUV the gang operated with and defused an improvised explosive device found in the vehicle. It also recovered an AK-47 RIFLE belonging to one of the slain personnel.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye who had declared the weekend and Christmas holidays as special working days for all Officers and men in the Command commended all personnel for their tireless and courageous effort in securing the people of Anambra State.

“He urged them not to be demoralized by the supreme price paid by their colleagues from Enugu State Command but to draw inspiration from their bravery in confronting the criminal gang.

“He condoled with the families of the deceased officers and Enugu State Police Command and vowed that the personnel will not die in vain.

“He has urged all officers and men of Anambra State Police Command to redouble their efforts and remain vigilant. He assured that technology would be employed to track down the criminals.”

  • Yhemolee apologises to Nasboi over remarks on his new single ‘Umbrella’

Yhemolee apologises to Nasboi over remarks on his new single ‘Umbrella’

Famous socialite Yhemolee has penned down an apology note to skit maker, Nasboi for ridiculing his talent and career as a musician.

This follows the backlash that trailed a podcast session where the ‘king of nightlife’ dissected Nasboi’s career and his newly released music single, ‘Umbrella.’

Addressing the issue following a clarification made by Nasboi on how the socialite watered down his career, Yhemolee followed up with an apology via the X platform.

According to Yhemolee, he was ignorant of the fact that Nasboi used to be a singer before delving into comedy.

While expressing his apology in a lengthy note, he added that the goal of the podcast was to banter with the host, Isbaeu.

He wrote: “Hi brother, First off I’m sure from the first time we met up till today, we have never crossed each other, and we have mutual respect. I have supported your craft and featured in some of your content. I totally respect your Talent and I can never water it down.

“Oh well if you felt some sort of way about a reference made in the content with baeU, you could have reached out to me like I’m doing right now and you probably would have had a clearer understanding or baeU himself would have made you understand the direction of the content with him.

“As against the tweet you just made, in which I take no offence even though I was never expecting such from you. But this is me saying I’m sorry about it and I hope it eases your mind and it will never repeat itself again. The content direction was more of sarcasm, banter and humour.

“I threw serious bants to Isbaeu as well just as he did to me as well. Nothing was said from a place of resentment or disrespect or whatever and again I am sorry. I love your music, as a matter of fact, I did help to share it on my socials as well. I enjoy it at my workplace and I mentioned in the same video with Isbaeu how much of a beautiful song it is.

“The banter was about comic acts tilting towards music, I never knew you to be a prolific musician or had a history with music until after this song dropped. Forgive my ignorance. Thank you.”
