    Court remands 50-year-old woman for allegedly exhuming female corpse

    An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Friday remanded a 50-year-old woman, Kudirat Kareem, for allegedly exhuming a woman’s corpse.

    The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a four-count charge bothering on conspiracy, breach of peace and felony.

    The prosecutor, Adesina Elijah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 17, 2025 around 10:00a.m at Olugbodo Layout, Ondo Road, Ile-Ife, Osun.

    He added that the defendant unlawfully exhumed the corpse of Adeoti Olagunju and took it to an unknown place without the knowledge of the deceased’s son, Adebola Sowole.

    Elijah said the act caused psychological trauma to the complainant, Sowole.

    He alleged that the defendant also sold an uncompleted building belonging to the deceased without the consent of the complainant.

    The prosecutor explained that the unlawful act breached the trust that the late woman had in the defendant.

    He stated that the offences contravened Section 4 of the Osun State Violent against persons prohibited Laws, 2021 and 434 and 516, Law of Osun, 2002.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The defence counsel, Martins Awe, applied for the defendant’s bail, with a pledge that she would not jump bail.

    Magistrate Kikelomo Adebayo did not grant bail to the defendant, directing her counsel to apply through formal application.

    Adebayo susbequently ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre, pending the consideration of her bail application.

    The case was adjourned till September 9.

    The matriarch of the Omorogiuwa family and founder of Love of Christ Mission, the late Rev. Dr. Mrs. Grace Josephine Evbagharu Omorogiuwa, will be laid to rest in Benin City on Friday, September 19, 2025.

    Aged 84, she was the wife of the former Permanent Secretary in the defunct Bendel State Civil Service and ex-Senior Lecturer in the Economics Department at the University of Benin, the late Dr. Peter Ada Omorogiuwa.

    According to a statement released by the family, a Service of Songs will be held in her honour at her residence in Benin City on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

    The family will also observe a lying-in state ceremony, Praise Night/Candle Night Vigil on Thursday, September 18, 2025, as well as reception and entertainment of guests on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

    The rites of passage ceremony will round off with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Love of Christ Mission, Ulegun community, Upper Sakponba Road, after Idogbo bypass in Benin City, Edo state.

    Ugbajo Itsekiri UK offers free medical outreach to mark Olu of Warri’s coronation anniversary

    In celebration of the fourth coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Ugbajo Itsekiri United Kingdom has brought a ray of hope to Koko community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, through a free medical outreach, catering to the health needs of hundreds of residents.

    The outreach drew a large turnout as over 400 people from Nana and other parts of Koko accessed free medical consultations, screening, and treatment.

    Beneficiaries received care for common health challenges including diabetes, hypertension, malaria, and eye-related conditions, while others benefited from counselling on nutrition and healthy living practices.

    President of the Ugbajo Itsekiri UK, Mr. Mejebi Eyewuoma, a UK-based pharmacist, explained that the programme was designed both to commemorate the Olu’s coronation anniversary and to improve the quality of life for rural dwellers who often struggle with access to healthcare.

    “Our aim is to empower rural Itsekiri communities by raising awareness on the importance of healthy living and good nutrition.

    “This medical outreach is also our own way of congratulating His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, on his fourth coronation anniversary and appreciating his sterling leadership in advancing the wellbeing of our people,” Eyewuoma said.

    The lead coordinator of the pharmacy section, Mr. Richard Ogide, noted that the initiative was informed by a needs assessment that revealed the prevalence of untreated health conditions in rural areas.

    “Many people in communities like this face challenges accessing quality healthcare due to cost and distance. This outreach helps to bridge that gap, and it is something that must be sustained,” Ogide stated.

    The Alliance for Kamosky, has taken its empowerment drive to selected local government areas in Ogun State, where over 30,000 women and youths were trained in various vocational skills.

    The Alliance for Kamosky is a coalition of friends and supporters of Alhaji Kamorudeen Olawale Yusuf, Personal Assistant to the President on Special Duties, who share in his vision to make the society better by lending a helping hand to the less privileged.

    Amongst the communities which benefited from the empowerment programme include but not limited to Ado-Odo, Agbara, Igbesa, Lusada, Ketu, Ayetoro, Idiroko, Odogbolu, Odeda, Ilaro, Obafemi Owode, Ikene, Imasayi, Owode Yewa.

    Others include, Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu East, North, Ogun Waterside, Remo North/ Sagamu, Abeokuta North/South, Ota, Imeko, Oja Odan, Ipokia and Ewekoro, Ifo.

    Justifying the need for the initiative which is ongoing, Taiwo Rahinat commended the efforts of Alhaji Kamorudeen Olawale Yusuf, Personal Assistant to the President on Special Duties, and Dr. Abdul-Lateef Sulaiman, describing them as champions of grassroots empowerment.

    “Alhaji Kamorudeen has performed excellently well in securing jobs for youths, thereby endearing himself to the people,” she said.

    Taiwo, who described herself as a strong advocate of women’s empowerment, explained the motive behind the initiative.

    “On our own part, as beneficiaries of Alhaji Kamorudeen’s efforts, we thought about what we could do to complement his work. That is why we initiated this programme to enable our people to acquire vocational skills such as soap making, tie-and-dye, hairdressing, shoemaking and others. When women are empowered, it goes a long way toward creating a positive impact in our society,” she stated.

    Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the opportunity. One of the trainees said, “I have learned shoemaking, which will benefit me in many ways. I don’t need to go to a cobbler again since I have been equipped with the requisite training. I appreciate Alhaji Kamorudeen Olawale Yusuf and the facilitators for their support.”

    The traditional ruler of Arigbajo, Ogun State, the Olu of Arigbajo , Oba Timothy Oluwole Mosaku, has joined his ancestors.

    According to a statement by the family, wake-keep service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at his residence, Olu of Arigbajo Palace, Arigbajo, by 5 p.m. Interment has been scheduled for Friday, September 26, at St. John’s Anglican Church, Arigbajo, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, by 11 a.m.

    The late Mosaku was born in 1936 in Arigbajo. He attended United District Central Primary School, Arigbajo, before proceeding to Abeokuta for his modern school.

    He also attended the Government Trade Centre, Ijebu Ode and the Institute of Management. He also read journalism.

     The late monarch, who described himself as a management scientist, worked at Vono Plc for 12 years. There, he served as the president of the Vono Plc workers’ union.

    He also worked at the CSS Bookshop, now known as Bookshop House, in the commercial department.

    He became Otun Baale of Arigbajo in 2001, was elevated to Baale in 2008, and in 2010, was formally gazetted by the Ogun State Government as the Oba of Arigbajo.

    An artisan Tope Olajide has committed suicide after misunderstanding with his wife in Otan-Ile, Osun State. 

    The Nation gathered that the incident at Otan-Ile in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State around 9am on Thursday. 

    A statement by the spokesperson of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke, on Friday confirmed:“On 21st August,2025 at around 09: 27AM information reached our office in Ilare division that,one Olajide Tope popularly known as MECO at Otan-Ile committed suicide.

    “We gathered from people that,he had misunderstanding with his wife Wednesday night but what led to the incident was not known yet.”

    Adeleke disclosed that the State Commandant, CC Igbalawole Sotiyo, urged couples and individuals experiencing emotional challenges to reach out to the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of NSCDC , Osun State command. 

    “The unit has successfully mediated and resolved numerous cases, offering support and guidance to those in distress. No one should ever feel compelled to take his or her own life every life is valuable and irreplaceable,” he said.

    The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says train services on the Warri-Itakpe corridor will soon resume following the completion of major repairs on sections of the track.

    In a statement, NRC’s chief public relations officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the temporary suspension of operations was to allow for urgent maintenance aimed at safeguarding passengers and ensuring smooth operations.

    “The Corporation is pleased to announce that work on the affected sections has reached an advanced stage, and normal train movement will recommence in the shortest possible time,” Unyimadu said.

    The Corporation said a definite date for the resumption will be communicated in due course.

    Nigeria Health Watch, partners train 20 journalists on solutions journalism for reproductive health

    Nigeria Health Watch, in partnership with MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices and the Family Planning News Network (FPNN), has trained 20 journalists from across the country on solutions journalism with a focus on family planning and sexual and reproductive health (SRH).

    The three-day training, held in Kano, introduced participants to reporting techniques that go beyond highlighting challenges to showcasing evidence-based solutions and successful interventions.

    Facilitators included Farouk Muhammad Bello and Abdullahi Isa Saminaka of MSI Nigeria, as well as Chibuikem Alagboso, Kenneth Ibe, and Hadiza Muhammad from Nigeria Health Watch.

    The sessions combined practical workshops with field interactions, allowing journalists to engage with key stakeholders from the Kano State Primary Healthcare Board.

    Among the officials who shared insights were Family Planning Focal Person Hajiya Fatima Mai Iyali, Adolescents Focal Person Zara’u Ibrahim, and Hauwa Aliyu, who outlined ongoing reproductive health initiatives in the state.

    The organisers noted that strengthening journalists’ capacity in evidence-driven storytelling is essential to improving public understanding, accountability, and participation in reproductive health matters.

    As part of the program, the journalists are expected to visit several communities across Kano State to assess the impact of family planning initiatives and report on successful strategies.

    Great relief has come the way of two communities in Ado-Odo, Ado-Odo Ota local government area of Ogun state, as they took delivery of two solar-powered boreholes on Thursday.

    The donation was facilitated by the Alliance for KAMOSKY, a coalition of friends and supporters of Alhaji Kamorudeen Olawale Yusuf, Personal Assistant to the President on Special Duties and Dr. Abdul-Lateef Sulaiman, who share in their vision to make society a better place by lending a helping hand to the less privileged.

    Justifying the need for the good gesture, the spokesman of the group, Mr. Oladapo Edun, said it was borne out of the need to ameliorate the living conditions of the communities that have been suffering lots of privations more than they are willing to admit.

    According to him, the project was facilitated by the duo as part of their own modest way of assisting the cause of the less privileged members of society.

    While formally commissioning the two boreholes and presenting them to the members of both communities, Edun urged the beneficiaries to ensure the safety and security of the infrastructure.

    “Bearing in mind the enormous efforts that went into putting these solar-powered boreholes in place, it is absolutely important that the communities take full responsibility for their safety and security. The water project will no doubt ease the burden of residents and market women within these neighbourhoods, so it behoves you all to take proper care of them,” he appealed.

    Speaking on behalf of the two communities, one of the elders was effusive with praise for the donations, even as he prayed to God to continue to bless every cause and endeavour of their benefactors.

    “Now our suffering has come to an end. Whether there is an electricity supply or not, we can easily fetch water with ease,” he said, even as he assured that the communities would help to safeguard the facility while appreciating the donors for their timely intervention.
