Suspected abductors of AAUA staff member nabbed

A gang of three suspected kidnappers of a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, Omoniyi Eleyinmi, has been nabbed.

The suspects were apprehended in the early hours ofyesterday while allegedly sharing the ransom collected from the families of Eleyinmi for his release.

The fresh development is coming barely 24 hours after the staff member of the state owned-university regained freedom following the payment of an undisclosed ransom to set him free.

In a viral video posted on social media, it was gathered that the suspects were nabbed in a thick forest in Ago Panu – a village and settlement between the Oba Akoko and Owo.

It is not immediately clear if they were nabbed by security agencies or hunters.

Olayinka Ayanlade, the spokesman for the Ondo state Police Command, could not be reached for comments when contacted by our reporter.

A text message seeking reactions over the update was yet to be delivered as of the time of filing this report.

Eleyinmi, a faculty officer in the department of education at the AAUA, was released by his captors on Sunday, nearly a week after his abduction.

A colleague of the university staff member, who pleaded anonymity, had confirmed his release via a phone.

Also, a family source who spoke in confidence, said Eleyinmi was freed after the payment of a substantial ransom.

Recall that the victim was abducted last Monday while returning to his Supare-Akoko residence from work.

He was seized by the gunmen, who had laid an ambush at his home, firing sporadically as he stepped down from a commercial motorcycle, which he rode home from the office, before whisking him away.

Sources said the kidnappers initially demanded N100 million from the family but later reduced it to N7 million after negotiations.

Move by the development, the AAUA Alumni Association – of which Eleyinmi is a member – immediately launched an appeal for donations to raise the ransom.

The association’s Global Publicity Secretary, O’Seun Ogunsakin, asked the members and Nigerians to donate within 24 hours to secure his release, providing a Polaris Bank account for contributions.

“Distinguished Alumni, I am sure that the majority of you must have heard the news of the kidnap of one of us, Niyi Eleyinmi, who is the Faculty Officer of the Faculty of Education, AAUA.

“Eleyinmi was kidnapped on Monday, and the kidnappers have demanded N7million. It is on this note that I want to passionately appeal to you to donate towards securing the safe release of Niyi from his captors,” he said in a statement.

Moses said he and Emmanuel stayed in Kaduna for six days, awaiting the ransom, but when it failed to come, Moses abandoned the plan and resurfaced.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun said efforts were underway to arrest Jetro, who is on the run, adding that investigations were still on.

According to the Maje Police Division, initial investigations led police to arrest 22-year-old Emmanuel Moses of Gidan-Mangoro in Karshi, Abuja as he was reportedly the last person seen with the victim.

However, the case took an unexpected twist the next day when officers on August 1 tracked Amarks to Zuba Motor Park in Abuja, alive, unhurt, and alone.

ARCON boosts vocational skills, begins free training for students

In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drive on impacting the nation’s youth with vocational skills, the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has begun a free Summer Skills Acquisition Camp 2025 for students in secondary school.

The three weeks training will among others equip the trainees with hands-on training in masonry, plumbing, tiling, painting, and interior design at the School of Architectural Technicians Scheme (SATS) in Abuja.

The programme, organised in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, is also aimed at nurturing the next generation of builders, designers, and artisans. It seeks to bridge the country’s skills gap by introducing young participants to structured, practical learning, blending creativity with technical competence.

Declaring the camp open, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, represented by the Director and Head of Public Buildings and Housing Development, Pemi Temitope, commended ARCON for the initiative.

“Today, we are not just inaugurating a camp. We are investing in the future workforce of Nigeria. We are affirming that the true foundation of national development is not merely in bricks and mortar, but in the hands that mould them, the minds that design them, and the skills that sustain them.

“The Federal Government’s recent introduction of 15 compulsory skills into basic education is a bold and strategic response to bridge the widening skills gap in our nation.

“We are investing in the future workforce of Nigeria,” he said.

“The true foundation of national development is not merely in bricks and mortar, but in the hands that mould them, the minds that design them, and the skills that sustain them.”

Dangiwa disclosed that the Federal Government’s recent introduction of 15 compulsory skills into basic education is a strategic response to the widening skills gap. “It is a declaration that every Nigerian child must be equipped not only with theoretical knowledge but with practical, employable skills that foster self-reliance and national productivity,” he added.

He added that the program will bridge the gap in skill acquisition in the country by introducing the young participants to structured, hands-on learning, where skill meets creativity, and training meets opportunity.

ARCON President, Dr. Dipo Ajayi, described the camp as a landmark moment for the built environment sector, stressing the importance of exposing young Nigerians to skills’ acquisition early.

Ajayi, who appreciated the minister for his unwavering support and leadership, said the council will work towards replicating similar feats in other geopolitical zones in the country.

“While this camp may seem like a small step as a pioneer edition, it is a giant leap towards making skill acquisition a mainstream component of our educational and professional development landscape,” Ajayi said. “Our vision is for this centre to evolve into a hub of excellence, where hard and soft skills are built, relevant research conducted, and cross-fertilisation of ideas thrives to advance Nigeria’s built environment.”

“It is our fervent vision that this initiative will grow into a national model, replicated in every geopolitical zone across the country.

“Given that every state of the federation is duly represented on the Council of ARCON, it is not far-fetched to dream of a day when this program is replicated in all 36 states of the federation and the FCT, ensuring that no aspiring builder, artisan, or designer is left behind.

“This camp is not designed as a mere training session, but as the seed of a Centre of Excellence — a hub where hard and soft skills will be built, where relevant research will be conducted, and where cross-fertilization of ideas will thrive to advance Nigeria’s built environment.

“We envision this centre evolving into a living laboratory of innovation, where students, professionals, and industry stakeholders engage in continuous learning, problem-solving, and knowledge-sharing.”

The traditional ruler of the community, the Gwomo of Kuje, His Royal Highness Alh Dr. Haruna Jibril’LL, expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government and ARCON for citing the school in his domain.

Aliyu, Chairman of the occasion, who was represented by Dr. Lateef Mohammed urged policy makers to give more attention to technical education.

“This gathering is more than a ceremonial launch. It is a collective statement of our resolve to bridge the gap in skills acquisition, particularly among our youths.

“This is important because a nation that fails to bequeath its youths with relevant skills is a failed nation.

In his closing remarks, Mohammed Sule, noted that ARCON was proud to align with the national agenda of equipping young Nigerians with relevant vocational skills. “Through this initiative, we are sowing seeds that will empower the next generation of professionals, innovators, and responsible citizens,” he said.

Group trains lawyers, professors, others on human trafficking prevention

The African Foundation for Economic Growth and Empowerment has trained 20 professionals, including professors and lawyers, on preventing human trafficking in Ekiti State

The training, which was organised by the foundation in collaboration with the US  Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights (USIDHR), attracted  participants from the Ekiti State University, Precious Cornerstone University, Adeyemi Federal University of Education.

Founder of the foundation, Amb. Tolulope Ola, said that the training was organised to equip the participants with necessary tools to help prospective emigrants verify information in order not to fall into traps of human traffickers.

She added that participants would  be certified at the end of the training as anti-trafficking consultants, enabling them to guide prospective emigrants on how to navigate their ways legally without going into servitude.

She said: “We have a mission to nurture and empower people by reconnecting them with their cultural heritage, which means we use cultural strategies for most of the things that we do.

“This year, I was fortunate to be part of a gathering called the Global Summit on Youth and Women in Turkey.  So that was where I met Dr. Isabel and the Country Director, his name is Mr. Ambassador Ibrahim Sani and we got talking and he told us about this opportunity to train people on the scholarship and we got 20 slots to train people on anti-human trafficking initiative and prevention.

“We had people from EKSU, we had people from the Precious Cornerstone University in Ibadan, from Adeyemi University. Also, we have people from the community here in Ekiti State and a lot of other people that we know will be able to take this far and wide.

“It’s good for people to know about human trafficking so that they can consult. If you have a job abroad, you want to confirm if it’s genuine or not, reach out to these consultants and they will tell you what you need to do, they will tell you if you need to go for the opportunity or not. It’s good to have someone to confirm. If someone tells you, I’m going to give you a job abroad, you need to ask questions so that you don’t go into servitude”.

The Director of AFEGE, Ilesanmi Ola said that the mission of the foundation is to reclaim the cultural values and set up a strong foundation in Ekiti to prevent all forms of trafficking.

Ilesanmi, described greener pastures as a “dangerous illusion,” emphasizing that all aspirations can still be  achieved in Nigeria.

The Administrative Manager of USIDHR, Laura Daugherty urged the participants to see the training as a responsibility to speak for the voiceless, as they embark of the mission to educate, empower and protect Ekiti residents from the human traffickers.

  • Cleric denies kidnap, murder allegations, threatens legal action

Cleric denies kidnap, murder allegations, threatens legal action

Popular cleric, Prophet Sam Olu-Alo has declared he is not a kidnapper, murderer or cult member as alleged.

He was reacting after police invitation over a petition accusing him of kidnap, murder and occultic practices.

Speaking while addressing congregation at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Adamimogo Jesus City, Lekki/Epe Express Way, Lagos, the cleric threatened to institute legal actions against those who levelled criminal allegations against him.

Olu-Alo said he was ready to fight back in court against charges levelled against him.

According to him: “I have sent a message to my people in my home town that no one should fight or curse anyone who is my blood and is accusing me of wrongdoing.

“Many of those social media influencers who commercialise contents such as accusation against me and my reactions to them on their social media spaces, are usually economical with the truth.

“They usually edit the contents to suit their intentions to draw traffic to their social media spaces. I didn’t want to react initially, but now, l do not care any more. I would not sit in my corner and allow them to create just any social media content to make money and destroy my reputation.

“Now, l am also launching out fully and I am demanding proofs from these accusers on their allegations that I kidnap someone and also buried him or her. They must also reveal the identity of the herbalist who prepared the fetish ritual of church growth for me.

“Another proof they must provide without wasting time, is the place where they alleged that l was initiated into some evil cult and identity of those who initiated me.

“They must also reveal the identity of the so called Pastor who saw myself and the traditional monarch getting initiated and taking me to plead with a certain Prophet. They must provide all these evidence I have mentioned. If they fail to do this, l will fight them legally and  with all that is within me as empowered by God.

“I am promising the accusers that as a man of dual citizen, I will fight them legally both here and outside the country. I believe in the justice system of Nigeria and also have firm belief in the justice system in my second country and I shall fight these assailants legally in both countries. These accusers must show the proof of the shrine they claimed I was initiated and ensure the world sees it or face the legal battle squarely.

“I dare them to show these proofs for the allegations.that l have mentioned and l assure you the Almighty God whom I serve also want them to show them. I repeat again, the proofs they must show, one is the number and identity of people they alleged l have  kidnapped and later, number and identity of people they alleged that l have killed, where they alleged that  l did the evil ritual before the so called traditional monarch took me to beg, and those occultic group members they alleged I am part of, have to disclose to the world if l am truly part of them.

“If they could bring all these evidences, then it is over. But if not, it shall be fight  to finish. I cannot denigrate the monarch of my hometown and l will never allow anyone to destroy his reputation.”

Read Also: 2027: Cleric slams politicians bargaining one term, says desperation won’t work

“The truth of the matter is that the monarch of my hometown whose name was mentioned by these social media influencers, has never met face to face with the CAC General Overseer, Prophet Hezekiah Oladeji. My monarch has only once gone to the mountain for prayer. This was a programme that all monarchs usually attend.

“The monarch of Ikun-Ekiti, Oba Onikun had brought my monarch to the programme then. I am speaking on behalf of my monarch and demanding from the accusers on the social media to reveal where I was taken to. I believe there is still truth in Nigeria, that is why I am saying all these.

“The fifth evidence these accusers must also bring to the public is the identity of the certain woman they alleged that I had secretly got married to and had children with and she later died from strange spiritual attack.

“Let me say this categorically, the man who they said I was taken to go and beg, l have never seen him face to face. I am not a Prophet who goes around kneeling down to just anybody. I pray to the Almighty God on my own. I merely hear about the man’s name. Never met him one on one. I am not a kind of God’s servant who seek some anointing from other men of God or Prophets. So, no one should attack me because you want to fight a certain man of God.

“The accusers are pained  because of the glory of God in my ministry. What they could not do that I am making efforts to do for God and for which God has been good to me, crowning my efforts with His glory, this reality is what is making my enemies to be envious and sponsor attacks on me on social media.

“I had personally gone to the bank to borrow N500 million to build the House of God. I am not a cleric who would use the church properties as collateral. I have strong faith in God and most of the structures you are seeing here, l didn’t build them, God used people to do this. This is what they don’t know.

“I assure you, God is just starting with me, He will still perform more wonders that would baffle my enemies. My family members have been so good to me. Even my wife has been so good to me. But  should anyone come after me tomorrow and lay false allegations, we would know how to face the challenges.”

The cleric, who clarified he was not the complainant on a case before the court, said: “I haven’t sued anyone because they have allegedly defamed me. They are the ones who instituted a legal battle against me and leveled terrible allegations against me in a petition they wrote.

“If they had limited their attacks to spreading smear campaign only on the social media, l wouldn’t have fought back. But they went to the police station and got charge sheet against me. I had left the battle for God when they were spreading smear campaign against me on the social media. It is not in my character to take people to Court, I am even too busy for that.

“But with the new development and attack from them, l promise that we shall fight back against their terrible allegations. I am urging members and lovers of my ministry, do not pity me for my Bible assures that a righteous man, shall be bold as a lion. The allegations these assailants leveled against me included murder, kidnapping and occultic practice. It is within my rights to defend myself against these allegations.

“I have told you the truth about the situation. social media influencers have since been using smear campaign against  me to achieve commercial success. Unfortunately, they misinform the world and their teeming followers with sensational and false news. It’s all yellow journalism.

“I urge you my dear ones to read between the lines and don’t be misguided. I have to respond to their legal attack so as to exonerate myself. An angel would not come down from heaven to defend legal issues  the enemies on earth have cooked up against me. I have to do that myself.

“I want to believe my wife’s people, especially my mother-in Law, who has been staying in my house for many years,  are not evil people. But like they say, people change me, so l won’t say anything further. I do not want my children to inherit wars I am faced with. I am a spiritual man and l would remain calm because of the future of my children. I do not want people to misunderstand my actions.

“My wife’s elder brother, works in my privately owned radio station. If he was bad to me, l wouldn’t allow him to work there. So, for me , they are good people. My wife also, is known to me as a prayerful woman , although, anyone may be tempted. I have never bribed any lawyer or police boss. But I know God is with me and gives me honour before men. I cannot bribe anyone to cover up any allegations against me.”
