Lagos Police invite Pastor Chris Okafor over sex allegations, others

Lagos State Commissioner of Police(CP),Olohundare Jimoh, has invited the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, over the allegations of ‘’rape and other conduct likely to cause breach of peace against him’ made against him’.

In a statement yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPPRO), Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, said the CP ordered Okafor to see the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), by 10 am for quizzing.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (DC SCID) to carry out a thorough investigation into the several criminal allegations against Pastor Chris Okafor. The Pastor has been duly served with an invitation letter through his legal representative and is expected to cooperate fully with the Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, in the ongoing investigation into the allegations of capital offences and other serious crimes against him,’’ Adebisi added.

It was reported that the pastor stepped down from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day following the escalation of allegations levelled against him by several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala.

Ogala had earlier made a public outrage, accusing the pastor of sexual misconduct spanning nearly a decade. In an emotional Instagram video posted on 14 December 2025, the Actress alleged that her relationship with the pastor began in 2017, lasted for nine years, with broken promises of marriage. She also accused him of sharing explicit photos which contributed to the breakup of her previous marriage.

The actress also shared some bedroom photos and screenshots of conversations between she and Okafor, alongside videos in which she claimed the pastor sent her $10,000 to retract her statements and allege that a rival pastor orchestrated the accusations.

However, Okafor had publicly apologised to the actress, during a church service last Sunday, admitting to his past “mistakes,” while seeking forgiveness.

Following the actress’s outrage, several other women also came up with allegations of sexual exploitation, manipulation and infidelity against the pastor. One of them was his former wife, Bessem Okafor, who accused him of infidelity, lies, deception, and physical assault.

  • NCC marks World Braille Day

    NCC marks World Braille Day

As Nigeria joins rest of the world to commemorate this year’s World Braille Day, the Director General, Nigerian Copyright Commission, Dr. John Asein has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to a copyright system that is fair, balanced and humane; one in which authors are protected, rights are respected, and learning materials are accessible to a growing number of blind and print-disabled persons.

World Braille Day is dedicated to celebrating Braille as one of humanity’s most transformative innovations for literacy, independence, and dignity.

According to a statement by the commission, Dr. Asein said this year’s focus on inclusion, the bridging of digital divides, and the advancement of accessibility in education resonates deeply with the Commission’s long-standing advocacy.

He stated that under the banner Let the Blind Read, the commission reaffirms its belief that the copyright system must serve not only creators and markets, but also learners, students, and readers with print disabilities. He emphasised that access to knowledge is a right, not a privilege.

“Yet, the reality in Nigeria remains deeply troubling. Available studies indicate that less than one per cent of published materials in the country are available in accessible formats such as Braille, audio, or digital text compatible with screen-reading technologies. This acute ‘book famine’ mirrors broader challenges across much of the developing world and exposes the systemic barriers confronting blind and visually impaired persons. The Commission is therefore again drawing attention to the fact that the cost of inaccessibility is not merely social exclusion, but long-term harm to education, employment prospects, and the inclusion of the print disabled in the broader national development agenda,” he said.

He recalled that for centuries, Braille has enabled blind and visually impaired persons to access knowledge, participate meaningfully in education, and live with dignity. He noted that this year’s focus on inclusion, the bridging of digital divides, and the advancement of accessibility in education resonates deeply with the Commission’s long-standing advocacy.

“Yet, the reality in Nigeria remains deeply troubling. Available studies indicate that less than one per cent of published materials in the country are available in accessible formats such as Braille, audio, or digital text compatible with screen-reading technologies. This acute “book famine” mirrors broader challenges across much of the developing world and exposes the systemic barriers confronting blind and visually impaired persons. The Commission is therefore again drawing attention to the fact that the cost of inaccessibility is not merely social exclusion, but long-term harm to education, employment prospects, and the inclusion of the print disabled in the broader national development agenda.

“It is against this backdrop that the Copyright Act, 2022, assumes particular significance. The Act marks a decisive transition from charity-based access to a rights-based framework for inclusion. Through section 26, Nigeria has domesticated the Marrakesh Treaty, expressly permitting the reproduction, distribution, and cross-border exchange of works in accessible formats for persons with print disabilities. Importantly, the Act also establishes safe-harbour protections for Authorised Entities, recognising that access must be enabled lawfully, responsibly, and in a manner that builds trust throughout the book value chain.

“In furtherance of this statutory mandate, the Commission has issued new Guidelines to strengthen the safe-harbour regime. These guidelines provide much-needed clarity, transparency, and safeguards for the production and dissemination of accessible-format copies. We are confident that they will encourage broader institutional participation, rebuild confidence among rights holders and intermediaries, and substantially increase the availability of books in Braille and other accessible formats. This regulatory effort will be complemented by sustained advocacy, awareness-raising, and capacity-building initiatives targeting publishers, libraries, educational institutions, and other concerned stakeholders.

“The World Braille Day ultimately reminds us that inclusion is not an act of generosity; it is a legal obligation, a moral imperative, and a development necessity,” Asein added.

Group lauds Kalu’s PISE project for peaceful yuletide in South East

    …commends Kalu’s support for president

The Renewed Hope Coalition, a pro-President Bola Ahmed Tinubu advocacy group, has hailed the Peace in the South East Project (PISE-P) initiated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, for contributing to the relatively peaceful Yuletide season experienced in the South East region this year.

In a statement issued in Enugu, the National Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Coalition, Comrade Emmanuel Okoro, described the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations in the South East as a marked departure from previous years plagued by insecurity and enforced sit-at-home orders.

“Unlike in the past, when fear and tension dominated the festive period due to unrest, this year’s Yuletide has been remarkably calm, allowing families to travel home freely, reunite, and celebrate in peace,” Okoro said.

“We attribute this positive development largely to the non-kinetic approach of the Peace in the South East Project (PISE-P), convened by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.”

The group praised PISE-P’s focus on reconciliation, community engagement, and development initiatives as key factors in restoring stability and confidence in the region.

Launched in late 2023, the project has continued to promote dialogue and socio-economic programs aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity without reliance on military force alone.

The Renewed Hope Coalition also commended Rt. Hon. Kalu for his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

During his recent annual end-of-year town hall meeting in Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, Kalu highlighted the fruits of the President’s bold economic reforms and expressed gratitude for the administration’s inclusive policies.

“We salute the Deputy Speaker for his steadfast loyalty to the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Okoro added.

“His legislative achievements, constituency projects, and peace-building efforts align perfectly with President Tinubu’s vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

“Kalu’s recent announcement of a ₦1 billion donation to support 2,000 MSME start-ups in Abia State, alongside palliatives and infrastructure developments, further demonstrates his commitment to uplifting the people.”

The group called on all stakeholders in the South East to sustain the momentum of peace and rally behind initiatives like PISE-P, while urging continued support for President Tinubu’s transformative leadership.

“As we enter 2026, the Renewed Hope Coalition remains confident that with leaders like Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu championing peace and progress, the South East will fully reclaim its position as the economic powerhouse of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
