  • Akala wins unit for Atiku, also senatorial, House of Rep.

    The former governor of Oyo state and gubernatorial candidate of Action Democratic Party, Alao Akala  won his polling unit, unit 13, ward 10, Ogbomoso North for People Democratic Party.

    He also recorded victory for his party, the ADP,  in the senatorial and House of Representatives elections.

    PDP led the presidential election with 189 votes; ADP 60 votes; APC 33 votes.

    In the unit, Oyo North Senatorial district ADP led with 222 votes while PDP and APC had 46 votes and 37 votes respectively.

    ADP amassed a total of 230 votes, PDP has 39 votes while APC has 38 votes.

     

  • Akala plans to manipulate Ogbomoso results, APC alleges

    The Oyo chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has cried out over alleged connivance of Action Democratic Party (ADP) with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to manipulate election results in Ogbomoso area of the state.

    The APC Chairman, Ogbomoso North Local Government Alhaji Bukola Badmos raised the alarm at the INEC collation centre for Ogbomoso North where collation of results is currently going on.

    The ADP, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala’s party, which cleared most of the polling units in Ogbomoso main town, was accused of working with some INEC Presiding Officers to manipulate results.

    There was mild drama when the result sheets were badly shaded by INEC presiding officers, making it impossible to get clearly a picture of what the results are.

    The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Rasheed Okunola, had a hectic time dousing the tension when the party agents threatened mayhelm at the collation centre.

    The APC Ogbomoso North Chairman alleged that the malpractice which was orchestrated by ADP would not be acceptable to the APC.

  • INEC bans mobile phones at collation centre

    …EFCC stations officials in Osun

    The Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje , on Sunday banned the use of mobile phone at election collation centre in Osogbo.

    Agbaje, during his opening remarks at the INEC collation centre, said people at the high table would not be allowed to call or pick calls throughout the collation period.

    He however, said that anyone who wished to receive or pick calls must step outside the hall.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the high table include the collation officer, head of security agencies and other Senior INEC officials.

    The collation of the results commenced at about 9:45am at the INEC headquarters in Osogbo.

    Also in his remarks, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, the Presidential Election collation officer in the state appealed to party agents at the centre to be peaceful and orderly.

    Ogundipe said the election was another milestone in the history of the country, adding that at the end of the exercise Nigerians should see themselves as one.

    Meanwhile, officials of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) were stationed at strategic location at the centre.

    One of the officials who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) under the condition of anonymity said they were at the centre to monitor politicians who might want to engage in bribery or any financial misconduct.

    Men of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), Police, and Nigeria Civil Defense Corps were also seen within and outside the collation centre to ensure security. (NAN)

  • Breaking: Thugs set INEC office on fire

    A section of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Office in Ijebu-Ijesha Oriade Local Government, in Osun has been gutted by fire.

    The incident occurred around 3 am on Sunday.

    It gathered that some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs allegedly set a section of the building ablaze along with some election materials.

    An electric generator owned by the commission was also burnt.

    Some of the staff at the building, however, fled the scene.

    Confirming the incident to NAN, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, said it was a minor incident.

    Agbaje said the fire did not affect Saturday’s election results.

    “What happened was purely criminal and does not have any political undertone.

    “Some of our staff heading to the office met some yahoo-yahoo boys on their way.

    “On getting to our office, they discovered that the hoodlums were after them.

    “Our staff dropped the election materials and the generator with them and fled.

    “The hoodlum thereafter poured the petrol on the generator on the election materials and set them ablaze.

    “What I heard was that the hoodlums said someone called them a nickname which angered them but whosoever called them the nickname is not one of our staff.

    “But I can authoritatively confirm to you that the election results were not affected and the building was not razed,’’ Agbaje said.

    The REC added that the collation officer for the Local Government was already at the INEC State Headquarters collation centre in Osogbo with the election results.

    Agabaje also said that no lives were lost. (NAN)

  • INEC yet to commence collation in Edo South

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to commence collation of results in Edo South Senatorial district.

    At the Urhokpota hall, venue of the collation centre, officials of INEC were seen waiting for results from seven wards.

    There was heavy security presence at the Urhokpota hall.

    Edo South Senatorial Returning Officer for INEC, Prof. Joseph Osemwenkha, said the results from five Wards available were not complete.

    Prof. Osemwenkha said two ad hoc staff that fled with results due to threat of attacks were yet to arrive.

    He said contact has been established with the ad hoc staff whose name he did not disclosed.

  • Buhari leads in Alagomeji, Lagos

    President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC has won Saturday’s presidential election in Ward 09, Alagomeji on Lagos Mainland LGA,  Lagos State, polling 1, 781 votes to beat PDP’s Atiku Abubakar,  who got  1,083 votes.

    The result is contained in INEC’s Publication of Result of Poll for the Presidential Election in the ward.

    The publication was signed by Dr Adesola Afuye, the Collation Officer for the ward.

    According to the publication, the other political parties which participated in the election got less than 50 votes each.

    While the presidential candidates of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) polled 46 votes, that of the African Action Congress (AAC) scored 40 votes, and the Young Progressive Party (YPP) polled 41 votes.

    Other political parties got less than 10 votes each.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that collation of results was still ongoing in other wards of the federal constituency  – Lagos Mainland – as at 08:10am.

    NAN reports that 73 presidential candidates participated in election in the ward.

    The results of National Assembly elections in ward had yet to be announced as at the time of this report.

    Meanwhile, the final collation of results from the 20 local government areas Lagos State, expected to hold at the INEC Office, Birrel Avenue, Yaba, had yet to start as at 8:00a.m. on Sunday. (NAN)

  • Collation of results stalled in Oyo

    Collation of results of the election is stalled across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.

    As at 7:00 am Sunday, no result for a single local government was ready for announcement by INEC.

    Collation was either stalled or still ongoing at a snail speed in the various centres for wards and local governments across the state, thereby leaving many tensed.

    Journalists and observers waited endlessly at the commission’s headquarters throughout the night waiting for arrival of Returning Officers to bring results.

    Collation was said to be ongoing at the various ward and local government headquarters.

    INEC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Wola Awolowo, told The Nation that the leadership of the commission was also awaiting arrival of results from local governments, stressing that various challenges were slowing down the activities.

    This contrasts with past experienced when results were ready for announcement Saturday night.

    None of the commission’s staff was able to leave their duty posts.

  • Atiku wins all voting points at Unit 007 Pyakasa in FCT

    The presidential candidate for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has won in the eight voting points at Unit 007 Pyakas, Lugbe, FCT

    Mr Sadiqu Abdulrazak, the Presiding Officer for the unit, said Abubakar scored 1,205 votes while President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 173 votes.

    Abdulrazak also announced that the Senatorial candidate for PDP got 913 votes while APC got 444 votes.

    For House of Representatives, the candidate for PDP won with 1,102 votes while APC candidate scored a total of 240 votes.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that sorting and counting of votes at polling unit 007 Pyakasa lasted till 4.30 a.m on Sunday.

    Reacting, the SDP agent, Mr Haruna Dauda, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the process, stating that every thing was transparent.

    Mr Joshua Shawula, the PDP agent, also noted that INEC staff were fair and the election at the unit was free and fair. (NAN)

  • Atiku won Owolabi Salis polling unit

    The Presidential Candidate of People’s Democratic Party, Abubakar Atiku has won the Atunrase Estate, Phase 11, Gbagada polling unit of Alliance for Democracy Governorship Candidate in Lagos State, Owolabi Salis.
    The Electoral Official for the unit, Mrs Titi announced the results around 3:00am on Sunday.
    She said that out of the total cast, Atiku won with 119 votes trailed by his rival, the Presidential candidate of The All Progressive Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari who polled 104. Other results are ADP-3 YPP-5, and ACCORD-1.
    She also announced that the senatorial candidates of the PDP and APC scored 119 respectively while the candidate of PDP won the House of Representative with 128 and the APC polling 95. Other results are: APA-1, PCP-1 and voided votes-15.
    The announcement of the results was greeted with protest by members of APC who had stayed for hours to get their votes counted.
    Earlier, the Candidate of Alliance for Democracy, Lagos state, Chief Owolabi Salis expressed his satisfaction over the conduct of the election which was organised under a peaceful atmosphere.
    Although, he was concern over the delay of INEC officials who showed up around 2:00 pm.
    He noted that voting exercise across Lagos State was very commendable as votings were done under a conducive atmosphere.
    “INEC officials delay to my polling unit, made me ask, if there was an attempt to disenfranchise over 600 eligible voters and myself in this polling unit,” he said.
    “the comportment of the voters in this poling unit is commendable and their resolved to address the issue amicably shows that Nigeria are ready to elect their leaders for another four years”.
  • Gunmen kill police officer attached to Bello’s aide

    Unidentified gunmen suspected to be political thugs have shot dead a police officer attached to the Personal Assistant to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Kabir Aliu.

    Aliu sustained gunshot wounds when the suspected thugs opened fire on their vehicle while on their way to the governor’s residence in Okene.

    Governor Bello disclosed this on Saturday shortly after casting his vote at his Agassa Uvete ward 011 polling unit in Okene Local Government Area.

    He expressed sadness over the killing, saying that the police were already investigating the matter.

    The governor waited for close to two hours before accreditation, owing to card reader malfunction.

    He expressed disappointment with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the shoddy arrangement, saying that it did not augur well for a transparent and credible election.

    According to him, “For an election where card readers are expected to shut down at 2 o clock, and in a polling unit such as this, with 844 registered voters, many people will be disenfranchised.”

    He, however, expressed satisfaction with the relatively peaceful conduct while the exercise lasted in the area.
