  • STARS MOURN AS DJ XGEE COMMITS SUICIDE

    Just two days into 2019, the gory news of Lagos-based DJ Xgee committing suicide has got the entertainment circuit worried. Apparently suffering a case of depression, DJ Xgee whose real name is Seun Omogaji, reportedly committed suicide by drinking ‘Sniper’, on Wednesday after his wife left him.

    Dropping a post on Instagram, he dropped what appeared like  a suicide note in which he implored his loved ones to mourn him wearing white.

    “Okay there is a twist to this last respect people  give to their loved ones when gone,” he wrote.

    “Black is sign of sadness …but in my case please Rock WHITE Cos i love this colour so much.

    “To all  I have made to smile and to those i have pissed off,  trust me I’m only being human. Enikorewa i love u so much , Erinayo,  your name sums it all up. You  are truly d reason for my Joy.

    “Omobolanle  Ajoke u know i care .. Moradeke my mum may my God heal u and to my in-laws stay blessed always.”

    Reports from those who knew him stated that he had been having issues with his wife who had left their matrimonial home. His pleas to her to return reportedly fell on deaf ears before he decided to commit suicide on Wednesday.

    Fans who responded to the post expressed pain and shock  wondering why the DJ resorted to taking his own life. Celebrities like Alibaba, MI, Wande Coal, Basketmouth, Ushbebe, and Bovi mourned the late DJ.

    Taking to Instagram, Alibaba posted the DJ’s picture and wrote, ‘Do more of what makes u happy, you are responsible for ur happiness’ while Basketmouth wrote, ‘Together…we created some amazing memories, you my friend…you will be missed. I can’t believe that the last time I saw you would be my very last. Rest in peace,  blood.’

    MI also wrote, ‘Link up in heaven…@djxgee rest in peace.. thank you for blessing me with your talent one last time on the 30th. Rest well now brother.

    Comedian Seyi Law wrote ‘Seun Gaji, my secondary school mate, my class mate, my industry mate. Why Seun? Why? We were still together on Saturday. You left after sound check to another event and came back on the same bike. What were you hustling for when you were going to go without enjoying it? I was so happy seeing you were playing for @wandecoal and your last words to me was ‘Non sibi’. I am saddened by this. RIP my brother, Seun Gaji, @djxgee.’

  • Burna Boy, Mr Eazi to perform at Coachella

    Come April this year, music stars Burna Boy and Mr Eazi are set to make their debut at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

    The annual music festival is scheduled to hold at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California in the United States.

    According to NAN reports, the lineup announced through Coachella’s official Instagram account @coachella, will see Burna Boy perform on April 13 and 20 while Mr Eazi will perform on April 14 and 21.

    Burna Boy’s ‘Ye’ and ‘On the low’ and Mr Eazi’s ‘Lagos to London’ EP have enjoyed massive listening globally.

    Headlining the festival will be Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino and Tame Impala while actor and DJ, Idris Elba, Solange, the 1975 and Janelle Monáe among others will also perform at the festival.

    Wizkid was billed to perform at the festival in 2018 but was unable to due to what the singer termed ‘visa issues.’

  • Dj Jibs rocks Nigerian Clubs

    One of the next-rated disc jockeys in United Kingdom, DJ Jibs is currently on tour to clubs in Nigeria.

    The London-based disc-jockey toured the hottest clubs between December 26 and December 31, 2018 in Lagos.

    DJ Jibs stormed the wheel of steel at the Club Royale, Ikeja which had his first performance on Boxing day, @bestab_lounge, The Place, The Rumors, Club Scandals and had his scintillating edition show at Club Phantom arena, Ikeja respectively.

    The 23-year old started dee-jaying professionally five years ago. He has worked with A-list acts like Burna Boy, Bobby Valentino, Yxng Bane, Not3s, Afro B and more.

  • The Entertainment industry needs an enforceable structure, says White Lion

    With the growing pace of the Nigerian entertainment presently, fast rising Afrobeat singer, Steven Chibuike Igbokwe better known as White Lion has disclosed that despite the fact that the Nigerian entertainment industry at large is blessed with lots of talents who are making international headlines globally; the industry as it stands is in dire need of an enforceable structure garnering up to 100% to enable it bridge the revenue gap evenly among its practitioners.

    White lion who is an indigene of Nnewi, Anambra State, started recording professionally between 2012 has revealed that while his mentors beyond Nigeria shores includes Jay Z, Drake, Chance thaRapper, Snoop Dogg amongst others, he looks forward to recording with the big names in the industry with the likes of Tubaba, Wizkid, Wande Coal, Timaya, Duncan Mighty and Tiwa Savage

    With a new single titled ‘Fine Girl’ produced by Mdhazz which is currently enjoying massive airplay across radio stations; White Lion has hinted that he hopes to bring home the Grammys in five years time.

  • Tosyn Bucknor, a loved sickler bows out

    Popularly known as ‘Area Mama,’ Tosyn Bucknor, a media personality actress and social media content creator died on November 19 from complications involving sickle cell anemia. She was aged 37.

    Married to Aurélien Boyer in 2015, Tosyn, a graduate of Law from University of Lagos and an On Air Personality with Inspiration FM, was a darling among radio listeners which earned her fame. It was her husband who discovered her dead on his return from work while Tosyn’s sister, events planner, Olufunke Obruthe, revealed that her sister died due to complications from sickle cell which she was born with.

    The daughter of Segun Bucknor, also starred in ‘Dazzling Mirage,’ a film produced by Tunde Kelani which focused on the plight of sickle cell anaemia. She started ‘These Genes Project’ to help people with the condition.

    In a report after her death, she was said to have revealed premonitions of her death via a poem published a few days earlier.

    Tosyn started her OAP duties with Tee-A at Eko FM. She was also an intern at Cool FM where she hosted the ‘Fun Hour Show’ on Saturdays. TosynBucknor joined Top Radio after her youth service in 2009 as the only female handling a morning show. In her lifetime, Tosyn Bucknor was nominated for several awards including: Future Awards, ELOY Awards, and Best of Nollywood, among others.

  • Genevieve takes Nollywood to Netflix

    With ‘Lionheart’ as her directorial debut, Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji, premiered her movie at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, TIFF, in Canada.

    The movie which stars Genevieve herself, Peter Okoye, NkemOwoh, Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu and others, was reportedly acquired by Netflix hours before its TIFF  premiere, making history as the first Netflix original film from Nigeria.

    The movie, which had the chance to be screened and accepted internationally, before coming home, was rated top, coming from an actress who is known to be selective in scripts acceptance from the beginning of her career, which has made her one of the top rated actresses.

    Some reviews have tongue-lashed Genevieve for not adhering to the processes involved in getting movies to the Nigerian cinemas. However, following a private screening on December 21, Genevieve announced that the film would finally be screened at selected cinemas.

    Nnaji started her acting career as a child actress in the then popular television soap opera ‘Ripples’ at the age of 8. In 1998 at the age of 19, she was introduced into the growing Nigerian film industry with the movie ‘Most Wanted’. Her subsequent movies include: ‘Last Party’, ‘Mark of the Beast’ and ‘Ijele’.

    In 2010 she starred in the award-winning film’ Ijé: The Journey’.

    As at 2009, Nnaji was one of the best paid actresses in Nollywood.

    Due to her contributions to the Nigeria movie industry, she became the first actress to be awarded Best Actress at the 2001 City Peoples Awards, the award ceremony that previously had only recognized politicians and business conglomerates. She was also the first actress to be awarded as Best Actress by the Censors Board of Nigeria in 2003.

  • Davido’s big moves

    His year, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is on the move. Early in the year, the Atlanta-born Nigerian singer made headlines when he acquired a 45 million naira Porsche car for his girlfriend, Chioma, on her birthday. Although the artiste said the gift was an assurance of his love for the chef, many are still in doubt if the gift was real or just a publicity stunt as many claim they are yet to see Chioma in her gift.

    In August, Davido announced that he purchased a private jet, a move which set the Internet and music industry on buzz.

    The Fall singer caused a stir at the Lagos National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp where he was to begin his compulsory one-year youth service. He stormed the camp like a rock star that he is. A few days after, he went for a show abroad. His service was later cancelled by the NYSC authority because he wasn’t participating in the programme.

    When his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was defeated by Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola in the Osun State governorship election, the artiste, in a PDP agbada, declared him the winner of the election, an action condemned by many Nigerians.

    Recently, the artiste released a video titled Wonder Woman which had cameo appearances by his baby mamas, including Sofia Momodu, who gave birth to his first child, Imade.

  • MO Abudu brings alive ‘Chief Daddy’

    CEO of EbonyLife TV, Mo Abudu, has continued to redefine movie production in Nigeria with the release of her latest effort, Chief Daddy.

    As released by the producer, the movie made a whopping sum of N115.7million on ticket sales in the first ten days of release. The movie came after Wedding Party .

    The movie directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, opened in cinemas on December 14th, and reportedly  maintained the number one position for local movies in the box office chart in Nigeria and West Africa.

  • AISHA ABIMBOLA SUCCUMBS TO CANCER

    Yoruba movie star, Aisha Abimbola, popularly known as ‘Omoge Campus’, died on May 16 in Canada. Abimbola was buried the next day according to Islamic rites at the Meadowvale Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centre, Brampton, Canada. She was aged 42.

    Born in Idumota, Lagos, Aisha was rounding off her HND in Catering and Hotel Management at the Lagos State Polytechnic when she met a director, Antar Laniyan, who helped kick start her acting role.

    She earned her moniker, ‘Omoge Campus’, when she starred in the Bola Igida movie, ‘Omoge Campus’ in 2001. She also starred in ‘Eje Adegbenro’,  a film produced by Jide Kosoko and in movies like ‘No Pain, No Gain’,  ‘Awerijaye’, ‘So Wrong So Right’,  ‘Omoge Campus’ and ‘Kamson and Neighbours’.  The late Abimbola also starred in different Wale Adenuga Productions.

    She debuted as a producer with the 2016 movie ‘T’omiT’eje’,” based on a true life story which she heard about during her Youth Service year in 2002.

    The movie premiered in Atlanta, US.

    In 2015, Abimbola won the City People Entertainment Award for Yoruba Movie Personality of the Year.

    Abimbola, a mother of two children, was married to Victor Ibrahim Musa.

  • RAS KIMONO goes out after 60

    The cold hand of death snatched one of the Nigeria’s best reggae artistes, ‘Rhumba Stylee’ crooner, Augustine Onwubuya popularly known as Ras Kimono, on June 10. He suffered a heart attack, June 9, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja on his way to United States. He was rushed to a Lagos hospital where he eventually died on second day.

    The artiste who had recently clocked 60 was laid to rest at his hometown, Onicha-Olona in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State on August 25 .

    Sadly, three months later, EfemenaOkedi, his wife and manager, also died on September 23.
