  • Firm unveils Foluke Daramola as face of shopping mall

Eliezer Investments Limited, has unveiled a Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola as its brand ambassador for the redevelopment of Ogba Retail and Abibatu Ogaji Sunday/Sunday market in Ojodu Local Council Development Area, Ikeja Local Government, Lagos State to Ogba Multipurpose Shopping Complex.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos yesterday, Managing Director, Eliezer Investments Limited, Fajana Kehinde, said the redevelopment of the market was to create facility with modern features that will make life more comfortable and bearable for everyone in the market, while also developing the community and the state as a whole.

He said the redevelopment would also be their quota to contribute to make Lagos a megacity.

He said the modern African market is with features designed to take care of both educated, non-educated, high income earners, low income earners and the average people.

“We have over 250 of them that have subscribed to the idea and their location is intact,” he said, adding that the facility, which is the biggest in Ojodu LCDA, has flexible payment structure, adequate parking space, ample green area and 24 hours water and power supply.

He said that over 50 percent of the shops have been sold, calling for non-existing shop owners to also key into the project, as the need for that necessitated their choice for a brand ambassador.

According to him, Daramola was chosen having tested her competence, capability and subjection to public scrutiny.

Daramola, in her response, thanked Eliezee for the honour.

She said she was excited on the project that she would be working on with the firm.

“A lot of time, we say we want to build a market and we set five years to plan, while all marketers would have been driven out of the market and nothing is done about it. I am using our company as a yard stick, who has been able to move the people to another place for them to continue their business and we have put them into consideration on the project; this shows the humanitarian part of our brand and this is why I can relate perfectly with the brand.

“I am known for humanitarian services. To say a company wants to redevelop a market without putting the market in consideration is a form of abuse, but our company has set the right pace for others to understand why the human person has to be taken care of. The flexibility of the shops and the rate we are selling is reasonable and that is commendable,” she said.

  • Funso Adeolu: Politics finishes your acting career

Nollywood actor Funso Adeolu Adegeye started acting 32 years ago. In this interview with TIMILEYIN ADIO, the actor talks about getting started in the industry, actors delving into politics and other issues. Excerpts

Why did you quit Guidance and Counseling for acting?

I never quit! Acting was my main thing before I went to school. So I just wanted to finish school and be a graduate to pursue my dreams.

As an actor, a star actor, how did your acting career start?

My acting career started with Antar Laniyan and a group in FESTAC. It was Antar Laniyan who came up to train us at that time. I started as a stage actor before I went to T.V.

    How was the experience?

It was very interesting. It was something I enjoyed doing and I was still young at that age. I wanted to just act; it wasn’t about money. I just wanted to do it.

    Tell us about your antecedent?

I went to all school in this world; I was just joking. I went through nursery school in Surulere as well as I went to Lady Lak Primary School at Ebute Meta. After then, I went to Ansaru deen College, Isolo, for my O’levels. Then I did my A’levels, which was HSC (Higher School Certificate) then at Baptist Academy. After that, I did a little of journalism and some other crash courses. After that, I went to Ondo State University to study Guidance and Counselling.

How do you manage your home with your profession?

Actually, it was not easy to manage home with my profession but I try my best. My wife is very understanding and I too make sure that anytime I’m not on set, I stay in the house with them and I always go out with them – my family; wife and the children.

What is your opinion on the present government and the election coming up?

Generally, we and the people that are in the government know we are not doing the real thing. Everybody is just doing crash courses. Only God can save us because we need somebody that will have the fear of God. But right now the government system is so bad. My advice to the youths is just to be very careful. We are not doing the real thing. Everything is just wrong.

Do you think the youths are too young to rule in Nigeria?

Yes, I think so; the youths are too young. They have questionable characters cause most of them grew up in a very funny way and what everybody is doing right now is trying to showcase themselves. They are not ready for the government at all. If anything has to happen, they should put them in some area like decision making area like House of Rep, but I don’t see any youth being the president in Nigeria.

Nigeria is too big for anybody that has never been in the system before, so you can’t just come up to say I want to be. It is not something that is easy. We can just encourage them for now; put them somewhere so that they can see what is going on now. At a point in time, they will be matured enough. Even the people that are older, some we see them in the house like idiots. So, you can just imagine the youths. Who are their role models? Let’s assume you want to do something, you must have a role model. Who is your role model? A role model must be in the government that is straight forward. We should wait. We don’t have good leaders; we know that. But the people that are coming, we don’t know what they will be. It can be worse. It doesn’t mean that we will not get the chance to rule but not at the top.

Many entertainers shy away from politics. Why?

The question is very funny. Why should an actor be a politician? It is not shying away. When you say shy away, it means it’s another step away from acting. No, no, no, if I am an actor and an entertainer. I want to improve myself then I want to (move) from actor to a movie producer. I want to produce a movie and I want to be intellectually recognised. I still have a lot of things to do in the movie industry. Why would I ever say I want to go into politics? By the time you go into politics it finishes your acting career except you are lucky.

Because we have some people that are already there and they are mixing it. That’s why I said it shouldn’t be. If you are a politician, you are a politician. An actor who wants to be reckoned with must be straight forward and be truthful. A politician cannot be truthful. They will lie all the time. Except, of course, some of them that are trying to be actors but they are still lying.

Do you have plans to produce any movie this year?

I am not a producer. I am a director and an actor. It is impossible for me to want to do one before the end of this year.

     What is your favourite wear?

I like to be very simple. Right now, I like to wear ‘Kembe’ and T-shirt and I like to wear Jeans and T-shirt.

    What is your favourite meal?

I like bread a lot and beans but when I’m married to an Akwa Ibom woman, I like to eat “Afang” soup a lot.

Your favourite music and your favourite musician?

I like any good music that teaches morals. I like Shola Allyson, Asa, I like Simi and the husband (Adekunle Gold) and I like Lagbaja too.

  • ‘My fans can drool but can’t touch’

Since childhood, Blessing Akhere had always desired to sing. Known in music circle as Akhere, the Economics graduate and former model who currently works in the aviation sector, is making her mark in the music industry. Akhere, who recently recorded a song, ‘On My Mind’, speaks with JOE AGBRO JR about growing up, the struggles of the industry and her aspiration. Excerpts

How did music start for you?

Music is my passion. I fell in love with music very early in life. And I used to remember making sounds, very beautiful sounds at age five. Even as young as I was, I was aware that I loved music and I could make very beautiful sounds. As a child, I longed to be part of the choir, the senior choir actually. But of course, you have to start from the children’s choir.

     In which church?

Brotherhood of the Star and Cross. And I had a very good choir master who was able to help me. Initially, I started as an alto singer. I was fantastic as an alto singer but I don’t know what happened. One day, we were doing a choir practice and rehearsal and I was switched. They switched me from alto to treble and that was the beginning. I was like, ‘wonderful’ is an understatement when it comes to singing the soprano. From there, as I grew older, I started to write songs. I migrated to writing secular songs. I wrote my first eight songs while I was still in the university. I was able to come up with a complete album. And by the time I finished university, as much as I loved music, music wasn’t appreciated then. That was around 2005 because I finished university around 2008. So, I just thought the sensible thing to do at that point is to just get a monthly job. That’s how I found myself flying.

The Nigerian music industry is a very competitive. What are you bringing to carve a niche for yourself?

Trying to be unique in my own way. I don’t want to be someone else. I just want to be me. And I believe the sky is big enough for everyone. We might probably not get there at the same time but as long as there is life, then I’m still pushing.

One of your songs, ‘Irin Ise’ (Man of Steel) trended not long ago. What was the motivation for the song?

There is a story behind it. Initially, my past relationship actually gave birth to that song. At the point I wrote this song, the relationship meant so much to me. That sanity and happiness and contentment you want in a relationship was there. And I never imagined it was ever going to end but that’s life for you. You have to give it your best shot which is what I did. The love around the relationship at that point led to that song.

So, are you back to being single?

Do I have to talk about that? I don’t think I want to talk about that. Anyone who comes close would get to know if I am single or off the market eventually.

You’re a beautiful lady and some men would be attracted to you. How has the interest in you from the opposite sex been like?

Well, I get that a lot. I handle them as they come.

    Can you share an experience?

To a large extent, I think they’ve been able to behave themselves.

So, what has a fan really done to you that you feel ‘this is too outrageous’?

Like I said, I have not really had any terrible experience. They’re able to keep their hands to themselves even if they drool which is fine by me. They can look and drool but can’t touch. To a large extent, they are well-behaved.

So, no one has attempted to touch?

No one has tried to touch indecently.

When we look at the music sector, there is a way females are portrayed as sex symbols, especially in music videos. How do you see that trend?

Well, I think everybody has the right to dress the way they want to even though there is a saying that says ‘dress the way you want to be addressed.’ At the end of the day, I’m sure if they do that for a video, probably the job warrants them at that point because that is the contract they have signed to do that way. But it’s not enough for anyone to want to look at them as sex objects. I think it has to do with one’s perspective about life. I have my own limits when it comes to dress sense. I can’t go further beyond a particular limit.

But for anyone who feels free to bare it all, it’s not enough licence for anyone to think she’s cheap. And the man should also have control. So, don’t blame it on the girl because she is exposed dress-wise, then you think you can lunge yourself on her indecently. The girl also has a right to get down with whoever she wants to get down with. So, it just has to do with individual perspective about life. We are responsible for our actions.

How do you combine your work and music?

It’s tough because flying alone drains you. So, I still don’t know how I have been able to combine flying with music because music on its own when I was doing fulltime music, takes a lot of my time. And when I ask myself how I have been able to cope, the only answer is my passion for music. Even when I want to give up, it’s not something I can easily give away. I’ve tried keeping away from it but it keeps on coming back.

    How do you relax?

Once in a while, I like to go dancing. It helps relieve my stress. But most of the time, I don’t even have that time to go dancing as often as I want. What I do is I always have my earpiece with me. When it blasts my head for a while, it’s more like it massages my brain and makes me calm down. When I get home, I still have it on the speaker. So, when the music is playing, I’m moving around at my pace doing things. The only time I turn off the music is when I want to pray and want to go to bed.

How do you stay athletic and beautiful?

I try to exercise on my own. I’ve never been to the gym. Whatever exercise I do, I do it within the four walls of my room.

    How about relationships?

Right now, I’m busy with myself.

So, no space for any man?

When the right man comes along.

So, what are the criteria for the right man?

Of course, he has to be God-fearing. He needs to love me. I don’t want a Master-Slave relationship. Someone I can trust and find sanity and happiness with. If he is good-looking, it’s an added plus. But he has to be very presentable. And he should be able to speak good English.
