Tonto Dikeh to fans: Trying to please everyone reduces your unique magic

Actress Tonto Dikeh has encouraged people to embrace their individuality and stop trying to please everyone.

In a post shared on Instagram, Dikeh said it is perfectly fine not to be liked or accepted by everyone, describing that realization as a source of strength and power.

She advised her followers to avoid shrinking themselves to fit into spaces they’ve outgrown or diluting their essence just to gain approval.

“The more you try to please everyone, the more you lose the magic that makes you who you are,” she wrote.

Dikeh urged people to always show up as their full, bold, and unapologetic selves, adding, “Here’s something you need to remember: you are not for everyone, and that’s okay. In fact, that’s powerful.”

“Whether it’s your personality, your business, your content, your voice, your style, or what you stand for, not everyone will get it. Not everyone is supposed to.

“Stop shrinking to fit places you’ve outgrown or trying to water yourself down so you’re easier to swallow. The more you try to please everyone, the more you lose the magic that makes you you.

“The truth is, the right people will connect with your realness. The right clients will find your brand. The right audience will feel your message.

“So keep showing up as your full, bold, unapologetic self. You are not for everyone, and that’s exactly what makes you unforgettable”.

  • Summer Walker apologises to fans after show cut short

Summer Walker apologises to fans after show cut short

American R&B star Summer Walker has apologised to fans after her highly anticipated performance at the Back to the City concert in Tshwane was cut short, expressing regret for disappointing those who came out to see her live.

Thousands of fans filled the SunBet Arena on Sunday, October 5, hoping to enjoy a full set from the Grammy-nominated singer. However, significant delays earlier in the event left Walker with limited time on stage.

Despite energetic opening performances from Lordkez, who brought out Cassper Nyovest for their hit Aweh, and Jessie Reyez, who thrilled the audience with her high-energy set, tensions rose when organisers announced that Summer Walker would be “a bit late.”

When she finally appeared, Walker delivered soulful renditions of fan favourites including Body, Girls Need Love, and Session 32, but performed for less than an hour — prompting disappointment among fans.

Following the event, Walker took to Instagram to issue a heartfelt apology and explain the circumstances behind the disruptions, assuring fans that the situation was beyond her control and thanking them for their understanding and continued support.

“South Africa, I’m so sorry. I literally don’t understand what happened. I got kicked off the stage. This whole thing was really unprofessional. They changed my time three times, and when I got on stage, I was thinking I’m going to do my full set.”

She continued, “They were yelling in my ear to cut my whole set. I didn’t even get to get down and get in the crowd like I usually do because they were telling me to hurry up,” she said.

She emphasised that the situation was beyond her control.

She continued, “I was prepared to do my full hour. The police, the fire marshal, and the promoter were like they were going to get fired if I didn’t hurry up and get off. I got off the stage, and they could’ve just paid the fine”.

She further explained, “They know you guys spent your hard-earned money, you drove far, and I saw someone said they sold their house to come here,” she said.

The singer also clarified that she was on time and ready to perform.

“I was dressed, ready, and they kicked your girl off, and I couldn’t do anything about that. I don’t want you to think it was on me. They could’ve paid the fine and respected our time, but they didn’t give a damn,” she said.

She said she’s being unfairly blamed.

She further said that South Africa has been her favourite place in the world.

“This is my favourite place in the world, I like y’all a lot, don’t do me like that. I will come back and hopefully they will let me do my whole show,” she said.

  • 2025 Teachers Day: Sanwo-Olu, NUT urge collaborative teaching to enhance learning in Lagos

2025 Teachers Day: Sanwo-Olu, NUT urge collaborative teaching to enhance learning in Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called for stronger collaboration among teachers, parents, policymakers, and communities to make learning more impactful and meaningful across the state.

Speaking at the Lagos State Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) at the Teachers’ Pavilion in Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu—represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin—commended teachers for their dedication and invaluable role in shaping the minds and characters of future leaders.

Addressing the theme of this year’s celebration, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” the Governor said teaching should no longer be viewed as an isolated effort. He described teachers as the “lifeblood of society,” who awaken curiosity, nurture potential, and inspire students to dream beyond their limits.

“So, every day, through your patience and commitment, you shape destinies and build the foundation of our society. Today is your day to pause, reflect, and celebrate the immense value you bring to the lives of our children and to the future of our State and our nation,” Sanwo-Olu said.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, urged teachers to continually develop themselves by acquiring new knowledge and technical skills to remain relevant in a fast-changing world.

He further advised teachers not to depend solely on government initiatives but to take personal responsibility for improving their teaching practices and embracing modern learning tools.

“You cannot afford to fall behind on ICT if you want to effectively teach digitally savvy students. Today’s students are internet experts, masters of computers and ICT gadgets. As their teachers, you need to step up, stay ahead, and acquire the skills to teach this tech-savvy generation.

“I challenge you, as educators, to proactively seek out knowledge on trending issues, processes, and procedures, and apply them effectively to enhance the school system.

Moving forward, just as this year’s theme affirms, I advocate for a collaborative approach within the school system, fostering symbiotic relationships among principals, staff, and teachers across districts,” he advised.

NUT Lagos state chairman, Hassan Akintoye, said to truly succeed, teaching must become a collaborative profession, where teachers work not in isolation, but in synergy with one another, with parents, with government, with technology innovators, and with society at large.

“So, collaboration means mentorship, sharing best practices between colleagues, teachers, and policymakers to co-create education reforms, teachers and parents work as true partners in child development, and so forth”.

However, called on the state government again to do better for teachers by seeing teachers to be seen as not just implementers, but as partners. “The future of education in Lagos requires policies that place collaboration at the core of teaching.

“Let us build schools where teachers do not compete, but collaborate, build a system where teachers, parents, and leaders are allies.

Let us also create platforms where every teacher, from the entrant to the most senior, has a role to play in shaping our collective future,” he said.

He promised that teachers would redouble their efforts as they look forward to another celebration next year.

Among other top state government functionaries at the event are the deputy governor, Dr Kadri Hamzat, who was represented by the Executive Chairman of the state’s SUBEB, Dr Hakeem Shittu; the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, represented by the TESCOM chairman, Mrs. Victoria Peregrino, and the Tutor-General-Perm Secretary of Education District 5, Mr. Abiodun Hassan, and so forth.

Raheem Okoya: Every penny I have comes from my hard work, not my father’s wealth

Raheem Okoya, son of billionaire industrialist and Eleganza Group founder, Chief Razak Okoya, has declared that his success is built on his own efforts and not solely on his father’s fortune.

Speaking during an interview on Wazobia FM, Raheem confidently stated that he earns his living independently, emphasizing that every kobo in his bank account comes from his personal hustle.

“Yes, of course, I make my own money. I work and make my money. Every penny in my bank account today is based on what I do — my sweat,” he said.

Raheem added that while he is not yet where he aspires to be, he is content with his current level of comfort, noting that his work provides enough for him to live on.

“I’m comfortable. It’s not like I’m where I want to be yet, but what I do can afford to feed me,” he said.

As the son of one of Nigeria’s most prominent businessmen, Raheem has often faced public scrutiny and comparisons.

However, he said he remains focused on his personal goals, including his passion for music, and is determined to build a name for himself through talent and hard work.

  • Relocating abroad doesn’t guarantee success – Bright Chimezie

Relocating abroad doesn’t guarantee success – Bright Chimezie

Veteran highlife musician Bright Chimezie has expressed concerns about the growing trend of Nigerians relocating abroad in search of better opportunities.

Chimezie, who spoke during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, said this trend is misguided, saying that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side.

In his view, many Nigerians who migrate overseas often face unexpected struggles, despite their high hopes for a better life.

Chimezie emphasised that those who relocate abroad often start from the bottom, taking on low-paying jobs just to survive.

He cited his own experiences of traveling extensively and noted that opportunities abroad are not as abundant as many people might think.

He encouraged Nigerians to explore and invest in local opportunities, which he stated are valuable and worth developing.

“Our problem is right here. We keep helping people over there because we think the grass is greener on the other side. But it’s not. I’ve travelled quite a bit, and I can tell you there are no more opportunities there. When you get there, you start from the bottom, sometimes even washing toilets just to survive,” he said.

The musician also attributed Nigeria’s current mindset to the legacy of colonialism, which he said has led many citizens to undervalue their nation and themselves.

Chimezie lamented that if Nigerians applied the same dedication they have for their faith to areas like science and technology, the country would be far better off.

“When the white people came, it affected our mentality and development. If we studied biology and mathematics with the same passion we use to read the Bible, our society would be far better,” he lamented.
