  • Jasmine Bruce not in a hurry

Jamine Murray Bruce, daughter of the founder and chairman of the Silverbird Group, Ben Murray Bruce, has taken a leave of absence from the social scene, giving the media no chance for headlines. The CEO of Monae Spa, a beauty outfit located within the premises of Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos, has managed to grow one of the hottest spas in the city, which has virtually become the convergent point for A-list celebrities.

While Jasmine is not a regular face on the social scene, her interactions with the circle of elites has slowly but surely granted her a spot on the social radar. However, the soft-spoken beauty has not been spotted at any social function lately. But some say it could be because she does not necessarily crave the attention that comes with her personality and she is also skilled at concealing her identity as much as she can in a crowded setting.

The graduate of Communication from Chapman University also has a good eye for business. Toeing her father’s path in entertainment and broadcasting, she has been a beneficiary of her father’s empire as she also works with Silverbird. She was said to have graduated in flying colours from one of the Ivy League universities in the United States, after which she headed back home and ventured into business.

Still single, she was once rumoured to be in a serious relationship with popular music act, D’Banj. But all that appears to have lived and died in the realm of speculation.

    Deola drops Sagoe as surname

Not a few people had expected it since her marriage to Koffi Sagoe crashed a few years ago. It is now official that Deola has dropped Sagoe as her surname and reverted to her maiden name. During the just concluded 2014 New York Fashion Week where Deola had her first solo exhibition, she had announced that she would be changing her brand name to just Deola, but many thought the change was meant only for her brand.

In fact, some of her fans had murmured in protest when the announcement was made because they were used to DS, which is short for Deola Sagoe. It has now emerged that the change is all encompassing, covering both her business and family life. People who have had cause to sign business papers with her hinted that she now signs Adeojo as her official name.

The development no doubt spells the end of an era for her matrimonial life. The mother of three is one of the most renowned Nigerian designers. Funke Fowler, the delectable daughter of Lagos revenue boss, Babatunde Fowler, appears to have favoured her privacy over the glamour of the social scene lately. Her only noticeable appearance at a public social function in recent times was her classy birthday in August, where she hosted intimate friends and family members to an exquisite dinner.

The birthday celebration had set tongues wagging with the conspicuous absence of her estranged husband, Abi Kuku, son of the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, Chief Bayo Kuku. The estranged lovers had been joined in a royal wedding about three years ago, and the wedding was widely acclaimed as one of the most elaborate weddings of the year.
