  • Interesting take on George Clooney’s wedding

Interesting take on George Clooney’s wedding

Social media reports on the George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin wedding has focused solely on George Clooney’s being an internationally acclaimed actor and not much was mentioned of his new wife, except for the fact that she was a beautiful lawyer. The Business woman media

Here is The Business Woman Media attempt at correcting the unbalanced media representations of the pair’s who tied the knot in Venice this weekend:

“Amal Alamuddin, a 36 year old London-based dual-qualified English barrister and New York litigation attorney who has long been a high-profile figure in international refugee and human rights law has gone against the trend for professional women in her field and married… an actor.

Amal is an educated and successful career woman we’ve long admired. The high-flying barrister has notched up many career highs, including representing the controversial WikiLeaks whistleblower Julian Assange, and also has multilingual fluency in English, French and Arabic.

Amal attended St. Hugh’s College, Oxford University, earning her BA/LLB and receiving the Exhibitioner, Shrigley Award. She also attended New York University School of Law earning her LLM and receiving the Jack J. Katz Memorial Award.

A true testament to her character is her decision to find time to serve on the expert panel of Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (formed by UK Foreign Secretary William Hague) to gather evidence of sexual crimes committed in conflict zones.

Singing her praises yet? Well you aren’t the only ones…

Julia Roberts called her “beautiful and smart”. Translation: she is beautiful and smart.

Mark Stephens, the solicitor who hired Amal to represent Assange: “She is a fabulously bright woman, she’s independent, has a Rolls-Royce mind and intersocial skills to die for.”  Translation: she is awesome.

Amal AlamuddinAmal is also a style icon for corporate women across the globe, with her easy elegance set off with her love of quirky footwear – a nice touch to her personal brand.

Now back to this marriage …

Little is known of Amal’s earlier relationships (we assume she was climbing that corporate ladder and smashing glass ceilings) but she’s tying the knot with an actor, whose name is George Clooney, we’re told.

He’s probably a nice man, but seems to be a bit clingy, as since she met him it’s hard to find a photo or footage of Amal without him hanging around in the background.

We only hope he doesn’t hold her back from conquering the world. We think this George Clooney fellow has scored big time.

He’s been quoted as saying he was ‘marrying up’… we agree”

  • Demola Seriki gets serious

Former Minister of State for Defence, Chief Demola Seriki, has joined the race for the senatorial ticket of Lagos West. Already, he has made public his intention to succeed Senator Ganiyu Solomon, who is currently jostling for the governorship seat of Lagos State. Born and bred on the Lagos Island, the APC chieftain is bent on re-enacting Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi’s deed when he crossed over from Lagos Central to Lagos West to pick the zone’s ticket to the Senate.

Seriki, who holds the chieftaincy title of the Otun Aare of Lagos, has been a rallying point of some youth groups whose followership he is also banking on to actualise his ambition. Many regard him as an accessible and attentive individual; these traits that endear him to many of the bright minds around him.

His versatility in grassroots politics has not taken the shine off his urbane outlook. If his ambition comes through, it would be his second foray into the legislative arm of government after his initial legislative experience in 1998 when he was elected a member of the House of Representatives on the ticket of the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).

  • Mixed feelings for Lateef Belo -Osagie at 50

The Managing Director of Hackett Nigeria Limited, an equipment supplier to leading telecommunication operators in Africa, Lateef Belo-Osagie, would have hosted many guests as he attained the golden age of 50 recently, but the tragic death of his son stood in the way. Celeb Watch gathered that the death of his 18-year-old son occurred a couple of weeks ago.

The young Belo-Osagie was until his death a student at the prestigious Yale University in the United States, and had only returned to Nigeria the day before the tragic incident. As would be expected, Lateef has since been wearing a mournful look.

  • Farouk Lawan goes anonymous

Notable member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Farouk Lawan, has adopted a reticent posture lately. The 2015 general election draws nearer and nearer but his next line of action remains vague. He was once seen by many political observers as the heir apparent to the governorship seat of Kano State. Those were the days he paraded himself as the leader of the integrity group in the House and was largely credited with the ouster of Nigeria’s first female speaker, Mrs Patricia Etteh.

But how time changes! Farouk trod on the proverbial banana peel and his world could not remain the same again. He is still battling to extricate himself from the alleged bribery saga in the House’s probe of fuel subsidy matter allegedly involving billionaire businessman, Mr. Femi Otedola.

The once vocal lawmaker has since gone anonymous. His record as one of the longest serving members of the House, however, remains intact. He has maintained his seat in the lower chamber of the National Assembly since he was first elected in 1999.

The businessman cum politician was said to have parted with about N11 billion to add the jet to his fleet of luxury items. Kalu has a high taste for expensive and classy items, and he makes no pretence about it. Long before he veered into politics, he had enjoyed the reputation of being the youngest Nigerian trader to become a millionaire. He once stated that he was one of those who made the highest donations to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s electioneering campaign in 1999. ‎
