Celebrity marriages in eye of the storm

A popular notion that oil and water don’t mix aptly explains one of the reasons the relationship between two Nigerian politicians, Ned Nwoko and Natasha Osawaru, and two Nigerian entertainers, 2baba Idibia and Regina Daniels, has enjoyed little or no peace since they announced their relationship.

First was Senator Ned Nwoko whose six-year-old marriage to Regina is in turmoil. After months of speculation, the marital crisis was confirmed by both parties, and today, the centre can no longer hold. Currently, 2Baba’s six-month-old marriage to Edo lawmaker, Natasha, is in trouble. The union is wobbling, tottering, and currently being tossed by the wave of sheer instability. From fanfare to warfare. From fun and merriment to pain and sorrow. Celebrity and their marriages to politicians are critiqued in this feature by The Nation’s Entertainment Editor, GBENGA BADA.

    Ned Nwoko and Regina Daniels

The relationship that exists between film star, Regina Daniels and Nigerian politician cum senator, Ned Nwoko, has consistently found attractive spots since their marriage was contracted in 2019.

At the inception of the union in 2019, the media was awash with their seeming gap of 39 years as their age difference – Nwoko, 64 and Regina, 25. Some even speculated that she was way below 19 during her traditional marriage, but Nwoko has dispelled the allegations insisting she was of ripe age when they contracted the marriage, according to the customs and tradition of the Anioma people.

The public space, for a total of six years, has been awash with their love story, which is undoubtedly riddled with controversies. The union lasted for a period of 72 months, until the film star decided to call it quits, after which she claimed domestic abuse, and the politician alleged she was battling drug addiction. Sadly, ever since their union kicked off, the estranged pair have been in the news for various reasons ranging from extra-marital affairs to the birth of children, to the exchange of expensive gifts and recently drug and domestic abuse allegations.

Between 2020 and 2022, the couple welcomed their two children – Munir Neji Ned Nwoko, June 2020; and Khalifa Chiamaka Ned Nwoko, June 2022.

In 2024, social media was abuzz when Regina deactivated her social media accounts and claimed that actress Chika Ike was allegedly pregnant with Ned Nwoko’s child, and was to become his wife, which took over the airwaves. While both parties swiftly denied the rumours, it reignited old speculations about Nwoko’s polygamous tendencies and the pressures Regina might be facing in the marriage.

The couple had gone through the phase of extra-marital affairs with claims that Ned, a confessed polygamist, was planning to take another wife. The pair were able to weather the storm and remained together until 2025.

Senator Nwoko has claimed that Regina’s brother and her assistant are the drug couriers aiding his estranged wife to get an unlimited supply of drugs. In response, Regina admitted being on drugs but insisted that Nwoko always wanted her more sexually when she’s on drugs – a claim the Senator is yet to deny or admit.

    2Baba and Natasha

Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, aka 2Baba, has always been in the news for two major reasons – music and women – in the last three decades of his career as a performing artist.

Notorious for having children with several women outside wedlock, he eventually decided to settle down with Nollywood actress, Annie Macaulay in May 2012.

However, the marriage only lasted 13 years and produced two children: Isabella and Olivia. All through the 13 years, allegations of infidelity and drug abuse rocked the Idibias’ marriage for the better part of the time it lasted. Speculations were rife that 2Baba was neck deep in love with Natasha while he was still married to Annie – a situation some allegedly said drove Annie into drug abuse. He was also alleged to have been enjoying amorous relationships with other women.

Just when Nigerians and fans of 2Baba were settling into 2025 in January, the ‘African Queen’ announced his separation from Annie and plans to file for divorce.

Shortly after the announcement, 2Baba announced his relationship with Hon Natasha Osawaru, a lawmaker at the Edo state house of assembly and granddaughter of the Esama of Benin, Chief Igbinedion.

Their relationship was initially rejected with 2Baba’s mother kicking against it and some of his brothers expressing disappointment in the singer’s decision.

On July 25, 2025 – six months after his separation from Annie – 2baba married Natasha in a private traditional ceremony in Abuja. The ceremony was attended by close family members and followed Idoma and Benin traditions.

Since the marriage was contracted, those close to 2baba had expressed dissatisfaction claiming Natasha was bad for business. And barely six months into the union with Natasha, all is not rosy in the new home formed by 2Baba. Videos of constant fights between the 50-year-old lanky singer and the Edo lawmaker have been shared on social media at different times.

As the drama continues to unfold, 2Baba’s brothers have expressed their dissatisfaction with his union to Natasha claiming he is unwell.

One of his brothers, Charles Idibia, publicly warned that 2Baba was living in bondage. Charles also accused Natasha of controlling the singer’s devices and disrupting his business activities. He further wrote that she had cloned his WhatsApp, sabotaged his business trips, and told strangers she was his wife.

In the same vein, another brother of the singer, Hyacinth Idibia, appealed to the singer to allow his family to support him as concerns grew over his troubled personal life. “You’ve always been ahead, always been brilliant, lyrics meant to inspire, but somehow, it’s unfolding in real time. Painful reality, allow us to save you. Oyinem, you’ve been suffering for too long. God knows.”

Some industry watchers have opined that 2Baba’s union with Natasha seems to be heading for the canvass as their incessant fights continue to gain public attention.

Tacha reacts to ‘Aunty Esther’s’ cancer treatment decision

Reality star Tacha has weighed in on X user, Omolola Mensah popularly known as Aunty Esther’s recent health crisis.

Aunty Esther, a devout church member of a prominent church, was diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread to her armpit.

Doctors advised chemotherapy, which often requires blood transfusions to optimize blood levels.

However, her church’s doctrine prohibits the acceptance of blood transfusions, viewing it as equivalent to consuming blood.

The fundraiser, coordinated by media personality Wisdom Obi-Dickson amassed N30,776,252 with notable contributions including N5 million from Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

Supporters rallied around Omolola’s reputation as a reliable personal shopper on X (formerly Twitter), where she built a loyal following.

Obi-Dickson announced on Friday that Omolola had declined the transfusion.

He emphasised respecting her faith but later stepped down from coordinating, citing complications, including reports that her church threatened disfellowshipping and her family viewed outcomes as “God’s will.”

Obi-Dickson also alleged Omolola asked a caregiver to lie about her decision and described her as “not a good or honest person.”

Weighing on the issue, Tacha stated that individuals who wish to end their lives should be allowed to do so, calling it “pure madness” to try to save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.

Tacha also criticised Aunty Esther’s behavior, citing her perceived lack of empathy and reckless attitude.

She questioned the hypocrisy of accepting certain religious beliefs while rejecting life-saving medical treatment.

The reality star further argued that the N30 million raised for Aunty Esther’s treatment could save numerous lives in Nigeria, suggesting the funds would be better utilised helping those who want to live.

Tacha wrote: “Honestly yall, If somebody wants to diie, i don’t see the argument, you people should allow the person die. I don’t see reasons trying to save someone who doesn’t want to be saved..“This isn’t about religious belief it’s just pure madness”.

“And let’s be for real, I’m not surprised about Aunty Esther’s situation.. She has consistently shown recklessness and a lack of care over the years, even when there’s a serious issue or a family mourning on Twitter, she’ll be there advertising her business with no empathy.

“But of course, she’s “Twitters Favorite” so yall have always giving her a clear pass. Big hypocrites

“Isn’t it funny, how your religion allows you to “lie” listen! If you can lie, you can steal and cheat. Your religion permits all that, but won’t allow a blood transfusion to save your OWN life??

“That 30 million Naira raised can save 50-100 lives in today’s Nigeria! Just channel the funds to people who want to live, and let those who want to diie do so in peace”.

  • Ned Nwoko renews call for social media regulation after false assassination claim

Ned Nwoko renews call for social media regulation after false assassination claim

Senator Ned Nwoko has condemned the spread of false information on social media, citing a recent incident where a man falsely accused him of plotting to kill his estranged wife, Regina Daniels.

The senator, on X, used the opportunity to highlight the dangers of Nigeria’s largely unregulated social media space.

Nwoko stated that making serious, unfounded claims for clicks and views has become a common trend, causing real damage to individuals.

He emphasised that social media companies should be held responsible for allowing defamatory content on their platforms.

The senator reiterated his support for a social media bill pending in the National Assembly, which seeks to require social media companies to register in Nigeria and open offices.

“The accompanying video trended a couple of days ago. It is a testament to the fact that the Nigerian social media space has become one of the most unregulated in the world. Laying very serious allegations have become a common trait to attract millions of views without recourse to the damaging effects on the people involved.

“Knowing that there could be evasion of consequences because they can easily prey on the emotions of Nigerians encourages this deviant behaviour. This case and many others have now clearly justified the urgent need for the social media bill in the national assembly.

“You can’t lie to make money and turn around to apologize after criminally defaming and hurting people. It is time for social media companies to be mandated to open offices in Nigeria and to take responsibility for what they allow on their platforms.

“If landlords are being threatened with punishments for actions of their tenants who are yahoo boys, what stops social media companies from being held responsible for allowing defamatory content on their platforms?”

Nwoko stressed that local media houses comply with defamation laws, and foreign social media companies should be held to the same standard.

“All our local media houses comply with laws concerning defamation. Why make an exception for foreign companies that don’t pay taxes and ultimately avoid all manner of liabilities because of the absence of regulations?

We must effectively be able to apply regulations, or there is no end to this. It’s Senator Ned today, who knows who is next?” he continued.

He urged Nigerians to support his bill, saying it’s time for social media companies to take responsibility for their platforms.

“Please support my bill on the regulation of social media companies, which simply seeks to get them to register in Nigeria and open their offices here”.

According to him, this would lead to employment opportunities, technology transfer, payment of taxes, and easier litigation.

“This will mean the following: employment for many Nigerians, technology transfer, payment of taxes, litigations will be easier and cheaper instead of suing them in foreign countries, they will also help in tracking bandits and other criminal activities and lastly our records will be domiciled here and not controlled by foreign countries who can use them to destabilize our dear country”, he concluded.

  • Music Business Academy rebrands as Creative Business Academy for Africa

Music Business Academy rebrands as Creative Business Academy for Africa

The Music Business Academy for Africa has announced a major organisational shift, adopting a new name — the Creative Business Academy for Africa (CBA for Africa) — to reflect a broader focus on the continent’s expanding creative economy.

Founded in 2020, the academy has trained more than 1,500 professionals for the music industry. The rebrand marks an expansion of its curriculum to include film and fashion, in addition to music, as part of efforts to strengthen capacity across multiple creative sectors.

The change coincides with the launch of the academy’s 2026 programme, themed IMPACT and An Ecosystem Template, which will operate as a full business simulation model. Participants will be trained in an environment intended to mimic real-world industry operations.

Founder of the Creative Talent Foundation, Godwin Tom, said the transition to CBA for Africa is aimed at preparing trainees for an increasingly interconnected creative landscape. He noted that a broader understanding of music, film, and fashion has become essential for navigating the sector.

The 2026 programme, an initiative of the Creative Talent Foundation, will feature four components: Music Business Programme, Film for Music Programme, Fashion in Music Programme, and Talent Development Programme. Participants will take on roles across an integrated ecosystem and receive training from industry professionals within an incubator-style structure.

He said, “This evolution to the Creative Business Academy for Africa is more than a name change; it’s a strategic response to the demands of the modern creative economy. Success today requires a horizontal understanding of how music, film, and fashion intersect. That is why our 2026 ‘IMPACT’ program is a full business simulation. We are creating a unique incubator where theory meets market reality, forging professionals who are not just knowledgeable, but are proven, results-driven ecosystem builders.”

The academy said its approach will continue to be anchored on three pillars: learning, practice, and results.

Programme Director Elizabeth Sobowale said the expansion represents an effort to extend the academy’s impact beyond music and respond to the needs of emerging creative industries across the continent.

Sobowale said, “This transition to CBA for Africa is about scale and substance. We’ve proven what’s possible within music, and now we’re expanding that success across other parts of the creative industry. The future of Africa’s creative economy belongs to those who can connect ideas, industries, and impact, and that’s exactly what we’re training our people to do.

“Developed in collaboration with Prof. Carlos Chirinos of New York University’s Music Business Programme, the CBA for Africa curriculum continues to be a global programme with a distinctly African focus, supported by the Creative Industries Initiative For Africa (CIIFA).”

Kizz Daniel’s brother open night club in Lekki

Mofoluwato Anidugbe Uthman, known as Uthy Grind and brother to hitmaker Kizz Daniel, has stepped into the hospitality scene with the soft launch of UNDA Lounge in Lekki Phase 1.

The event gathered close friends and family who got the first look at the Caribbean-styled space set on the waterfront.

Anidugbe said the project was born out of a long running passion shaped by his work in entertainment.

He explained his vision during the launch, saying, “This is a passion project for me. I’ve always wanted to go into hospitality because I’m already very vast in the entertainment industry, and I feel hospitality and entertainment go hand in hand.”

He said he wanted to create something fresh for Lagos nightlife.

“I created something that has never been seen before: UNDA, located by the waterside at 8 Wole Olateju Lekki phase 1. It’s a Caribbean-inspired playground. The location is right by the water and it is incredibly beautiful,” he said.

Affordability, according to him, is a core part of the brand. UNDA plans to host live sessions, listening parties, celebrity performances, and art showcases.

An art gallery sits inside the lounge, giving guests another reason to return.

The menu focuses on seafood, which ties back to the name “UNDA.” Anidugbe said it reflects the idea of life under water. The official launch on December 17 will feature big names, including Kizz Daniel.

  • Why actors shouldn’t sign restrictive contracts, by Niyi Akinmolayan

Why actors shouldn’t sign restrictive contracts, by Niyi Akinmolayan

Award-winning filmmaker Niyi Akinmolayan has publicly urged actors to stop accepting contractual clauses that prohibit them from promoting other local films, warning that such restrictions stifle the growth of Nollywood.

In a statement on social media, the CEO of Anthill Studios emphasised his understanding of actors’ financial needs while imploring them to reject deals that limit their ability to support multiple projects.

He highlighted Nollywood’s limited resources and positioned actors as essential contributors to the industry’s expansion, advising them against self-imposed limitations.

The statement came amid growing concerns over exclusivity clauses increasingly inserted into cinema and streaming deals.

These clauses typically bar actors from publicly supporting or appearing in promotional materials for competing Nigerian projects during a specified window, often for several weeks or months surrounding a film’s release.

Speaking to the economic reality facing most Nollywood actors, Akinmolayan acknowledged the pressure to accept such terms but argued that the long-term damage to the industry outweighs short-term financial gain.

He wrote, “Actors… I know you all need money. But please stop signing contracts that tell you not to promote other films you are in. Nollywood is not that rich (Far from it), and you are worth more… you are a part of the necessary ingredients for growth in the industry. Don’t stifle yourself.”

Waje advocates safer online culture at 6th Governors’ Spouses Conference

Award-winning Nigerian singer and humanitarian, Waje, attended the 6th Nigerian Governors’ spouses forum conference held in Abuja today.

The high-level gathering brought together wives of state governors, policymakers, development partners, and social advocates to address key national issues spanning women empowerment, healthcare, education, youth development, and social welfare.

Waje, who has long championed women’s rights and youth development, contributed to discussions on the role of societal influencers in shaping culture and driving positive change. She noted that beyond policy and programmes, the everyday attitudes modelled online and offline also determine the kind of society we build.

Reflecting on the responsibility of public figures, especially men, she said, “I truly believe male influencers and creators have more power than they sometimes realise. The first thing is what they normalise, the jokes they laugh at, the language they use, and what they allow in their comment sections. Silence can sometimes feel like endorsement.”

“Men can also call out harmful behaviour publicly—not in a shaming way, but in a way that educates. A simple ‘this is not okay’ from a respected male voice can shift culture faster than a thousand debates.

They should also actively amplify women’s voices, especially when women speak about abuse, harassment, or inequality — not speaking over them, but standing beside them. When men model respect online, it permits for boys to do the same offline.”

Her remarks reinforced the conference’s broader message: that meaningful social transformation requires not only leadership from institutions but active, intentional influence from individuals with cultural reach.
