How meeting Don Jazzy changed my life, Neo Akpofure

Reality TV star Neo Akpofure has reflected on how meeting music executive Don Jazzy ten years ago became a turning point in his life.

Sharing on Instagram, Neo revealed that he was randomly selected as the winner of an MTV Base trivia competition titled “A Day with Don Jazzy” a decade ago.

Although he missed the chance to travel to South Africa for an award show due to his university exams, Neo said his Lagos meeting with Don Jazzy and the N500,000 compensation he received had a profound impact on his life.

According to him, the encounter fueled his belief that he could achieve anything he set his mind to.

He expressed deep gratitude to Don Jazzy for the opportunity and to God for fulfilling every promise made to him.

Akpofure wrote, “Destiny may know my name, but grace has never failed to find me in moments of doubt and uncertainty.

“Ten years ago, at a time when I questioned so much about my future, I was randomly selected out of thousands as the winner of the MTV Base “A Day with Don Jazzy” @mtnng trivia. I had spent just N60 answering questions about Don Jazzy, not knowing that those few clicks would open a door I never imagined.

“The prize was an all-expense-paid trip with Don Jazzy and the Mavin crew to South Africa for an award show. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it because of my exams at Unical. Yet, God still showed up for me. I was flown to Lagos to meet Don Jazzy, and to my shock, I was given a ₦500,000 compensation.

“That single encounter changed my life. It made me believe that I could truly be whoever I wanted to be. It reignited a fire in me that no circumstance could put out.

“Today, a decade later, I look back with so much gratitude. To my @donjazzy , who without even knowing, re-inspired my dreams—thank you. To God, who has kept every promise He made to me—thank you. I am a living testimony that when grace speaks, destiny listens”.

Don Jazzy responded to Neo’s post, saying, “Bro GOD got you. You are destined for greatness. Everybody I know that knows you always has amazing things to say about you. Makes me happy and I’m proud to have a line or 2 in your book. More blessings ahead”.

Neo, whose full name is Emuobonuvie Akpofure, participated in the Big Brother Naija Season 5 “Lockdown” edition in 2020.

BBNaija evictions have been shocking, unexpected – Ibifubara

Former Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate, Ibifubara, has shared her thoughts on the ongoing eviction process, describing it as surprising and disruptive to the dynamics of the show.

Speaking in a recent podcast interview, Ibifubara said the evictions so far appear to target strong, core housemates, citing her own exit in the first week alongside Danboskid.

She noted that subsequent evictions of housemates like Kayikunmi, Gigi, and Victory have further unsettled the game.

According to her, these exits have disrupted the “ship” dynamics within the house, breaking up notable pairings such as Zita and Danboskid, as well as Kayikunmi and Isabella.

Ibifubara also pointed out that evictions have altered potential storylines, mentioning how Victory’s removal cut short a developing arc with Sultana.

She said, “I feel like the way the evictions have been, have been causing the house to, it’s almost like the peak has existed. Yeah. Because if it was a thing where there was like people that weren’t a core of the house.

“Yeah, there’s some people that shouldn’t be in the house right now. Obviously, but like, if it was less people that were core of the house living first, like, I feel like, okay, something happened. But this one is unexpected.

When Gigi and Victory came out, I didn’t expect it. So I didn’t expect it.

So it’s like people are highlights. So let’s say from the beginning, why you’re removing people like the first week, you’re removing someone that’s the ship and someone that is everybody’s person. Yeah.

“So the next week, you’re removing somebody that like people didn’t expect, like, Kayikunmi, that’s also in the ship. So at some point, there’s even a running joke that a ship is not saving you this season. Because you could go out like I’m saying this, these are the major ships like Zita and Danboskid were major ship in the house, like something that all of us saw, you know, very fast and Kayikunmi and Isabella were major ships in the house. And it’s just like if these people can go and Victory and Gigi were not just a ship but like a chaos, that surrounded them with other people. So it’s like they’ve broken down a storyline for Sultana even.

“So she doesn’t have the victory storyline anymore. So she has to now deal with the ones that are remaining. And if next week, they also remove somebody that has the major storyline. That’s it”.

BBNaija: I will bring back Sabrina, Rooboy to House if given opportunity – Kola

Big Brother Naija housemate, Kola, has revealed that he would choose Sabrina if given the opportunity to bring back one of the evicted housemates.

Speaking during his diary session, Kola described Sabrina as an understanding person, making her a desirable housemate to return.

He also mentioned Rooboy, noting that he equally deserves another chance in the game.

Kola said, “If I had the power to bring back one housemate it would be Sabrina, because we understand each other. At the same time too I would have loved Rooboy to be back because he deserves this as well.”

Kola’s decision has sparked buzz among fans, particularly because he didn’t mention Dede, with whom he had a visibly close relationship in the house.

This has led to speculation about the current state of their bond and whether it may have weakened before Dede’s exit.

Sabrina, who earlier exited the show due to medical reasons, earned a reputation for her lively personality and ability to connect with fellow housemates, making her a fan favorite.

Kola’s mention of Rooboy has also drawn attention, as he was widely seen as one of the stronger players before his eviction.

Rise above pressure on marriage, motherhood, Toke Makinwa advises women

Media personality Toke Makinwa has shared an inspiring message to unmarried women and those yet to have children, encouraging them not to let societal pressure define their worth.

After welcoming her first child, a baby girl named Yakira Eliana, at 40, Toke expressed gratitude for God’s timing in her life.

On Instagram, she posted screenshots of negative messages from trolls, acknowledging the criticism women face over marital status and motherhood.

She stressed that marriage and childbearing should not be seen as the sole measures of a woman’s fulfillment.

Toke urged women to focus on personal growth, block out societal noise, and trust God’s plan, sharing that despite past criticism, she has now found joy and fulfillment in motherhood at the right time.

She wrote, “I’m not one to even acknowledge negativity. I’ve built a strong brand off the stones that have constantly been thrown at me over the years, and one thing about God, he loves the people you judge so much. I am only sharing this for anyone out there dealing with contention, delay, shame, and all the cràzy limitations life can sometimes throw your way.

“Funny how no matter how much you rise career-wise as a woman, society still glorifies the things that haven’t happened for you yet. Marriage has become some sort of a yardstick to fulfilment, and if you don’t have a child yet, hmmmmmmm! Very loaded sigh.

“Thank you, Jesus, this one ended in praise. You were not late; you only wanted my heart posture to be right, and I’m thankful for the community of women you’ve given me in this season.

“I know there are ladies who feel they are running out of time; society wants you to believe that you have expired, you might even start to believe it, but you are wrong.

“I am thankful I did not settle, I’m thankful I got to be a mum when I am ready, I am thankful I rejected all these labels, and I am grateful it happened not when I wanted it but when God’s timing was right. It is perfect!

“Do not underestimate the power of negativity. I ran away the whole pregnancy, I became so fearful, and I shut everyone out. Then this word came: “Perfect love drowns out fear”. God is love, he gives good gifts, and it is perfect. I prayed it till my heart believed it.

“The words hurt, but my spirit was not broken. They only reminded God about me, not that he forgot, but they challenged him to shatter the ceiling with this testimony. So here’s my advice to you,

“Hold on, drown out the noise, focus on the Vine, let him do the heavy lifting, celebrate yourself at every stage, you are becoming, and everything good will come. There will be days when it’ll get tough, but the victory is worth it. Congratulations in advance to anyone waiting, it doesn’t have to be a child, whatever you’re waiting on, it’s here”.

  • Afrobeats is a label, not a defined genre – Seun Kuti

Afrobeats is a label, not a defined genre – Seun Kuti

Singer Seun Kuti has argued that Afrobeats is more of a label than a distinct genre of music.

Speaking in a recent interview on The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, Kuti explained that the term is often used as a broad identifier for music from Africa, rather than a genre with unique characteristics.

He noted that many Afrobeats artists and executives don’t approach it as a defined genre but instead create eclectic sounds that blend multiple influences.

According to him, artists frequently switch between styles such as dancehall, Nigerian pop, or Amapiano without being confined to one genre, making Afrobeats more of a catch-all title than a specific musical category.

Kuti said, “I think Afrobeats is more of a title than a genre. You can see Amapiano is the new Afrobeats. It’s the new title, it’s the new thing in Afrobeats. So, Afrobeats is just a generalisation; it’s just a title to identify something from a particular place [Africa].

“I don’t think it’s a genre. Even the gatekeepers, the big names, don’t deal with it like a genre; they don’t work it like a genre. They are [Afrobeats] artists that are eclectic in a way that they could do a dancehall track today, do a blue track tomorrow, do a Nigerian pop sound, jump on Amapiano, and whatever is trending. So, I think it’s actually a title,” he stated.
