I yielded to pressure from friends to form robbery gang – Suspect

A 29-year-old man identified as Chigozie Anene has confessed that he went into armed robbery, particularly the snatching of tricycles to boost his second-hand clothes business and give his late father a befitting burial.

Anene also revealed that he and his gang members were buying stolen goods from burglars and armed robbers.

He said he used to steal expensive cars and tricycles and sell them at give away price. For instance, he said, they could sell a car worth N10 million for half a million naira.

Police sources said he had a tricycle mechanic who was helping him to change some parts of a tricycle he had stolen so that whoever would buy it would not suspect that it was stolen. Anene was said to have gone into hiding after his gang was bursted by the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

Revealing how the he was arrested by IRT operatives, the source said the operatives tactically asked Anene whether he had a tricycle he wanted to sell, with one of the IRT operatives posing as a buyer. But he was arrested as soon as he surfaced in a meeting with the ‘buyer’.

Narrating how he began the venture into armed robbery, Anene, a father of two, said: “I live in a one-room apartment at No. 4 Mosalasi Street, Igando, Lagos.

“I used to operate as one-man gang, singlehandedly stealing tricycles in my neighbourhood.

“My problem started when one Tunbu and one Prince became my friends and lured me into forming a three-man robbery gang to make bigger money.

“They convinced me that there is less risk in snatching cars than tricycles and that stolen cars have more standby buyers.”

Asked why he preferred to operate as a one-man gang, he said he operated without a gun or the risk of being exposed by any arrested gang member.

He added: “The urge to give my father a befitting burial contributed most to my forming a robbery gang as well as getting enough money to boost my second-hand clothes business and live big like some of my mates.

“When I decided to stop armed robbery, my members nearly assassinated me because they felt that they were no longer safe and they would not be able to rest after any robbery operation, because I could become a police informant.”

On what other thing that pushed him into armed robbery, he said: “When I wanted to start second-hand clothes business, there was no capital and no collateral to borrow money with.

“To make matters worse, my father had no savings and did not leave anything of value that I could sell to get some money to start business with.

“She was not happy about it, but there was nothing she could have done to stop me because I was desperate to get money to boost my business and give my late father a befitting burial.

“It was last year that my father died. I went to bury him and came back. Unfortunately, one boy carried my market, sold it and ran to Cotonou.

“When I went to their house and could not find him, I carried his elder brother’s generator and sold it for N6,000.

“My problem worsened when one of my friends named Kaka said we should do business together, not knowing that what he meant was for us to form a car snatching gang.

“He told me that we should start lifting and selling Big Daddy (Toyota) cars and fairly used tricycles to make more money.

“The first Big Daddy car and so called fairly used tricycles we got, I could not account for any of them because my members refused to tell me whether they sold them or not.

“Rather, they kept telling me that the police were pursuing them and they had to abandon the stolen vehicles, which sounded to me like a cock and bull story. They have not given me a dime from the stolen vehicles.

“When I tried to locate Kaka, they told me that he had relocated to his village while Tunbu’s whereabouts are still not known to till now.”

Asked his advice for people who are still into crime, he said: “Crime is a curse; run away from it while your legs can still carry you.

“Stealing and armed robbery have only two bus stops: prison and graveyard.”

Daura comes alive as Amaechi is turbaned Dan Amanar

The ancient town of Daura in Katsina State has become a beehive of activities as dignitaries besieged the town for the turbanning of Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi as the Dan Amanar Daura by the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar.

Dan Amanar means the trusted one in Hausa.

The Nation gathered that the decision to honour the Minister was taken in appreciation for his contribution to the siting of Federal projects in Daura Emirate of Katsina state.

A source close to the Emir’s palace told The Nation that among federal projects influenced by the Minister to Daura are the University of Transportation, Federal Polytechnic, Daura and the Kano to Niger rail line which will pass through Daura.

“Ordinarily, the rail line is supposed to go straight to Kano and then to Niger Republic. But Amaechi influenced it’s passing through Daura without the knowledge of Buhari.

“Amaechi has influenced a lot of federal projects to Daura to the extent that the city has benefited more from this government than other parts of Katsina state.

“Whatever game he was playing, he succeeded in touching the mind of the people. That is why the Emir decided to honour him,” the source said.

President Muhammadu Buhari described the conferment of the title of “Dan Amana,” (the trusted one) on Amaechi as a clear commitment to the harmonious relationship between the nation’s diverse cultures.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu quote the President as commending Amaechi “for working with enormous energy to make the CHANGE we promised Nigerians a reality,” saying “the change we are witnessing in the transport sector is an extraordinary legacy.”

A presidential delegation made up of the Ministers of Water Resources, Engineer Sulaiman Adamu, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika and the Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) Garba Shehu are attending the event taking place at the Emir’s palace in Daura.

  • Confusion as Agballah, Nwoye claim Enugu APC chairmanship

Confusion as Agballah, Nwoye claim Enugu APC chairmanship

Less than 24 hours after inauguration of state chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, the Enugu chapter of the party has been engulfed in another round of confusion and crisis.

The confusion is fueled by a viral video from the APC national secretariat which showed that Chief Ugochukwu Agballah was denied certificate of return by the national secretary, Senator John Akpan Udedehe during the inauguration.

The situation led to the emergence of two factional chairmen with the immediate past chairman, Dr Ben Nwoye and Agballah claiming the post.

While Chief Agballah returned to a tumultuous reception by members of the party in the State, Dr Nwoye told reporters he remains in charge of Enugu APC.

Addressing APC faithful who came out en masse to receive him at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, Agballah promised to turn around the fortune of the party in the State.

Agballah, who told party members he was duly inaugurated, said the party is coming with vigour to break the 24-year- old political monopoly of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He also said the party under his leadership would fulfill the ambition of the founding fathers and create platform for a democratic change in the State in 2023.

Agballah disclosed that he accepted to lead the party to make the politics of the State competitive.

However, speaking with journalists in Enugu at the weekend, Nwoye dismissed the claim by the Agballah, insisting that nobody was sworn in in Abuja as Enugu State Chairman.

He stated that the caretaker committee under his leadership was still in charge of the party in the State at the moment.

He insisted that the crisis rocking the party in the State would be amicably resolved soon.

According to him: “APC is a restored party. There’s no victor, there’s no vanquished. APC in Enugu is united”.

Nwoye commended the national leadership of the party for refusing to recognise Agballah as chairman, insisting that he did not participate in any congress.

“I’m grateful to the national leadership of our party, the chairman of APC reconciliation committee, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the Southeast representative in the National caretaker committee, Senator Ken Nnamani, former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime for ensuring that justice prevailed

“Justice has been served by the National Leadership of our party. I call on our members to be calm and watch the national Secretariat take a decision on Enugu State.

” For now am still in charge as power abhors vacuum so, I remain the caretaker committee chairman of Enugu APC,” he stated.

  • ‘Nature forced me to become a mother at 11’

‘Nature forced me to become a mother at 11’

Mrs. Theresa Adeola was calm and smiling self when ‘The Nation’ encountered her in Abuja recently. Although she did not look it, she said she became 90 years old on Wednesday (February 2, 2022). She spoke with ERIC IKHILAE about her early years, her teaching career, and her love for God and humanity, among other issues.

THE birth of a child ignites a certain feeling of joy and fulfillment in the heart of the parents of the newborn. The feelings become more intense when it is the first child.

Such was the case in the family of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril and Elizabeth Arogunmasa (now late) at the birth of their first child, Theresa, in lwaro-Oka community in the then Western Region (now Ondo State) in 1932.

For Theresa (now Mrs. Theresa Adeola) growing up was beautiful, particularly being born into the home of a caring mother and an educated and loving father.

Her father was educated in Kafachan (now in Kaduna State) after which he worked as an eloquent interpreter with British Reverend Fathers of the Catholic Church in both his home community and the northern part of the country.

Nature however saddled her with the care of her siblings early in life when her mother died while she was only 11 years old.

“My mother died after giving birth to a set of quadruplets. So, the duty of caring for them fell on me as the first child,” she said

    Early education

The task of caring for her younger ones delayed her early enrolment in school. With her father’s support, she was enrolled at St. Peters Primary School Iwaro-Oka around mid-1940.

She said: “I got inspired to go to school when I saw the choreographic display of the pupils of St Peters Primary School Iwaro Oka, who were beautifully dressed on Empire Day.

“Empire Day, in our days, was the celebration of the British Empire and the Commonwealth. It is like today’s Independence Day.

“I was particularly impressed with the display and match past by the pupils. So, the next day, I dressed up and went to school.”

She added that with the support of her father, she was eventually registered as a student of the school, which made her happy, because to send a girl child to school was considered as a waste in those days.

While in school, she was a brilliant girl and well behaved. She distinguished herself in academics by coming first. She was that girl that the school relied on to handle some onerous tasks, which explains why she became the Head Girl while in Standard Five.

Mrs. Adeola explained that her days in primary school were quite interesting. She recalled with nostalgia some of her schoolmates and teachers.

“One of our teachers then is Mr. Edward Ologunagba, who I learnt is still alive and kicking. Some of my classmates include Leo Dare (now Emeritus Professor), Reverend Father Patrick Arowele and Mr. Oguntolu,” she said.

After her primary education, she wrote an entrance examination to the famous St. Andrew’s College, Oyo in Oyo State. Although she passed, she could not attend the school owing to paucity of funds. She, however, did not allow the disappointing development to tame her quest for education as she attended the Teachers’ Training College in Epinmi-Akoko, Ondo State, where she acquired her Grade 2 certificate.

    Starting a family/teaching career

Adeola explained that a series of events trailed her meeting with the man she eventually married and her decision to marry him. Although she could not recall the exact year, she said she was either in Standard Three or Four when a boy accosted her on the way to school one morning and threatened to beat her without any provocation.

“While the boy was at it, a senior male student came and intervened and threatened to beat the boy should he lay his hands on me. That was how I knew Augustine Adeola.

“Subsequently, I would go to him and greet him and thank him for what he did for me the other day, and he would tell me to stop thanking him; that he did nothing unusual for me.”

She recalled she later found that Augustine rescued her from the boy who was always bullying her because he wanted her, as he later asked her to marry him; a request she promptly turned down.

“I told him no; that I was only concerned with my education at that time,” she said.

She recalled that because of her performance in the academics and her good conduct, she was made the Head Girl at Standard five. Incidentally, Augustine also became the Head Boy in the same school.

On account of their new portfolios, they started interacting. But at a point, some people who were displeased with their friendship manipulated their photographs, cropped their images from two different pictures and brought them together to appear as if they both posed for a shot.

“I did not know what their intention was. They took the manipulated picture to my father who, on seeing it, said he was convinced that his daughter could not be involved in such act.

“We had white teachers then. One of the teachers, who was a Reverend Father and the school Principal, was not happy when he saw the picture.

“He called out Augustine on the assembly ground the next day and caned him openly before other pupils.

“The Reverend Father, a white man, subjected him to public disgrace by giving him 12 lashes before the other students on the assembly ground for what he did not do.

“I did not witness that incident because I was absent at school on that day. But I was told about it.

“Still not done, the Reverend Father failed Augustine and made him to repeat his class in Standard 6. We then became classmates.

“When I thought about all he went through and the injustice he was subjected to, I decided to marry him, because I felt he was unjustly punished.”

They eventually got married in 1954 and the marriage was solemnised at St Patrick’s Church Mission, Oka in 1956. It was the same church where her parents wedded in 1931. The church, built in 1889, exists till date.

They later started a family and were blessed with 10 lovely children eight of which are still living. She, however, lost her husband in 1995 when he was 62 years old.

Adeola’s teaching career spanned about 35 years and she retired in 1986. Reputed as an extraordinaire disciplinarian, she is called a teacher of teachers who did not spare the rod at any given opportunity, be it on her children or on her numerous non-biological children.

Due to the nature of her husband’s job, she was transferred to many towns of Akoko and Ekiti in the old Ondo State. While in each of these towns, Mrs. Adeola left her footprints, as a dependable teacher to whom parents preferred to hand over their wards.

Asked whether she would have loved any other profession besides teaching, Mrs. Adeola said no.

“I loved teaching and I have always been a teacher. I gave all my life to teaching because I loved it. Apart from raising my children and being with my husband, there was nothing else that occupied me other than grooming people in all the places I worked.”

    Her religious part

Mrs. Adeola did not only assist in the academic development of many as a teacher, she also led and is still leading many to Christ as a devout Christian. In concert with her husband, they established a Catholic Church in Oyin Akoko, where they also organised correction marriage for couples who were merely cohabiting. The unions were perfected at Our Lady of Good Counsel. And as marriage counselors, God also used them to revive some dead marriages.

After the death of her husband, she relocated briefly to Lekki in Lagos, where she encountered the late Reverend Father Patrick Adegbite, the parish Priest of SS Philips and James. She then served as a church warden and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Everywhere she goes, Mrs. Adeola demonstrates love to people and to the service of God, because for several years at SS Peters Lekki, she was known by many for her church activities, including being a marriage counsellor and a member the Youth Committee.

She later moved from Lekki to Gbagada (also in Lagos) to live with one of her children. There, she aided, along with others, the establishment Our Lady of Queen of Peace Parish. She was among the nine parishioners that pioneered the parish, where served as a member of Rosary Congress, Christian Women Organisation and church warden, among others. She worships in the church whenever she is Lagos.

While also in the United Kingdom, she worshipped at Our Lady of Good Apostles, Welwyn Garden City, London where she served as a member of Saint Bonaventure among others groups in the church.

    Her political part

Mrs. Adeola also has a political part. She engaged in partisan politics at a time in Ondo State. She explained that she was one of those who introduced the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in lwaro at the time it was an aberration to identify with PDP in the state.

She said her motivation was borne out of her determination to help her immediate community. She then became the Woman Leader of the party in the area.

“I was particularly concerned with the fact that there were few women involved in politics. I took it upon myself to plead with and encourage the men to allow their women to attend political meetings.

“We succeeded in encouraging more women to become involved in politics,” she said.

How it feels to be 90

On how she feels being 90 years old in this part of the world where life expectancy is pegged at about 50 years, Adeola said she feels fine and well. She thanked God for sustaining her.

“I feel fine and happy. God has been kind. God has taken me this far. I thank God. I still feel fit,” she said.

    Advice to today’s teachers

Drawing from her experience, she admonished those want to teach to ensure that they love the profession and are well prepared for it.

She said: “Anybody who wants to teach should take teaching as a profession and go through teachers’ training, whether at the College of Education or at the university.

“There, you are taught how to teach, how to impart knowledge. Because when you are a professional, you will know how to do it better than somebody who was not trained in that field.

“If we do that, the quality of the students that will be produced, whether at secondary school level or university, would be better.

“The foundation is part of the problem. The government should look into to that. I loved teaching and I was so devoted and committed to it. So my advice is that anybody who wants to go into teaching should do so because they love it, not just because they want a source of income. Otherwise, they will not be committed. Teaching is very demanding.”

She also advised the government, at all levels, to pay closer attention to the training of teachers “so that there will be more qualified teachers to train our children and properly prepare them for the task ahead”.

Mrs. Adeola also admonished the government on the issue of poor remuneration for teachers, noting that the saying that the reward of the teacher is in heaven could no longer apply because a teacher needs to manage his family and manage his career. He/she has social responsibilities and also needs to train his/her children so that they could also be well prepared to manage their future.

“So, the government should ensure that teachers, at any level, are well remunerated to ensure that they put in their best,” she said.

APC chair: Al-Makura, Akume, Mustapha, Bwari in hot race for slot

By Yusuf Alli, Managing Editor, Northern Operation and Jide Orintunsin, Abuja

    • Govs, party leaders concede post to North-Central
    • APC writes INEC again, now names venue
    • Vote only credible candidates – APC Ex-Reps tell delegates

Six aspirants, all from the North Central, are now poised for a tight race for the national chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the tempo of the party’s arrangement for  the February 26 convention heightens, party sources said yesterday.

The convention has been scheduled for Eagle Square in Abuja, according to the party in its second letter in 48 hours to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the issue.

Locked in the contest, after governors elected on the platform of the party and other leaders appeared to have conceded the position to the zone, are: ex-Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Special Duties Minister George Akume (Benue) and a former Deputy National Chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Mallam Saliu Mustapha (Kwara).

The rest are Senator Sani Mohammed Musa (Niger), former Minister and ex-Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bawa Bwari (Niger) and Mohammed Etsu (Niger).

But the governors and party leaders have not reached a consensus yet on who among the six aspirants will lead the APC during the 2023 elections.

It was learnt that the governors may recommend two of the aspirants to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the leader of the party.

According to investigation, the North-Central was favoured with the chairmanship seat ahead of the North-West and North-East, having already produced three past Nigerian leaders who were in the saddle for more than 18 of its 62-year-old history.

While the North-West was ruled out because the current president is from there, the North-East leaders are said to be pushing for the office of the Vice President if power shifts to the South in 2023.

The North-East APC leaders claimed that the zone has had presence in the presidency twice including the tenure of the late Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and the vice presidency of Atiku Abubakar from 1999 to 2007.

A governor, who is privy to the ongoing power intrigues in APC, said: “With the latest permutations in the party, the odds favour the North-Central for APC chairmanship. Even if we are to cede the slot to the CPC Caucus of APC, the next chairman may emerge from the North-Central.

“I can tell you that all APC governors have almost resolved to give the opportunity to the North-Central. It is left to our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, to accept the zone to produce the next chairman.

“In fact, a governor in North-Central, who is aspiring to be a vice presidential candidate to a presidential aspirant from the south, does not want the national chairman from the zone or his state. He has been lobbying his fellow governors not to zone the APC chairmanship to North-Central.

“Also, the Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello, who is a presidential aspirant, does not want the chairmanship office for North-Central because he believes it is not a good bargain for the zone.

“The North-West is ruled out and the North-East, which has not featured well in the nation’s political configuration, is seeking the ticket for the office of Vice President.

“Only Balewa and Atiku have held the offices of Prime Minister and Vice President from the North-East. That is why the zone does not want party chairmanship which Ambassador. Babagana Kingibe and Modu Ali Sheriff had occupied in the past.”

It was gathered that if Buhari and APC leaders finally consent to North-Central for the party chairmanship, some of those who will lose out include ex-Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari (Zamfara); ex-Governor Ali Modu-Sheriff (Borno); ex-Governor Isa Yuguda (Bauchi); Sunny Sylvester Monidafe (Adamawa) and Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi (Zamfara).

A party source said: “I think some of these aspirants from the North-East and the North-West have seen the handwriting on the wall. That is why they have not been seriously pushing their aspirations.

“It is only Sheriff that has erected bill boards everywhere and lobbying some APC leaders to give him a chance. But it is obvious he is not likely to get it.”

APC writes INEC again, now names venue

For the second time in 48 hours, the APC yesterday wrote to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its national convention to clear doubts on the venue.

The party named the Eagle Square in Abuja as convention venue on February 26th.

There had been anxiety on why APC was silent on the venue for the convention.

But the party in a February 4th, 2022 letter by the Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Governor Mai Mala Buni, clarified the grey area.

The letter, which was obtained by THE NATION, reads: “Follow up to our letter referenced APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/022/14 dated 2™ February, 2022 on the NOTICE FOR THE CONDUCT OF NATIONAL CONVENTION refers.

“This is to inform the Commission that the Eagles Square, Abuja is the venue of the National Convention.

“While hoping to receive your usual cooperation, please accept the assurances of our highest esteem.”

How CECPC bowed to governors to write INEC

There are also strong indications that the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the APC may be dissolved if it does not actualise the February 26 fixed for the party’s convention.

It was gathered that President Muhammadu Buhari gave the caveat before jetting out to Ethiopia for a meeting of the Africa Union (AU).

Apart from alleged lobbying by the CECPC members to shift the convention, the President was said to have got security report on an alleged plot to postpone it.

Some CECPC members were said to have suggested to one of the State Chairmen of APC to propose a clause calling for the postponement of the convention.

But the chairman said he would not do any such thing.

He was said to have told the affected CECPC members to look for another state chairman to do his bidding.

A reliable source said: “It was not easy prevailing on the CECPC to notify INEC. It was done after the President ignored lobbying for the postponement of the convention.

“The President gave a caveat that the CECPC might be dissolved if it does not make February 26 a reality for the convention.

“Even on Thursday, some CECPC members attempted to prevail on a state Chairman of the party to propose a shift in the convention date.

“But he refused. He asked the party to engage another state chairman to do the hatchet’s job. We really don’t know what they are up to anymore.”

APC Caretaker Committee notified INEC of its convention in a letter Ref. APC/ NHDQ/ INEC/19/022/ 14 which was dated 2nd of February, 2022.

The said letter was however delivered to INEC and acknowledged by the electoral agency on February 3.

The letter, signed by the National Chairman, CECPC Mai Mala Buni and National Secretary of CECPC, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, said in part: “Follow up to our letter referenced APC/ NHDQ/ INEC/ 19/021/40 dated 11th July, 2021 on the Notice for the Conduct of National Convention.

“This is to inform the commission that our great party has scheduled to hold its National Convention on Saturday, 26th February, 2022,

“This serves as a formal notification pursuant to the provisions of Section 85 of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended.

“Kindly arrange for your officials to monitor the exercise accordingly.

“While hoping to receive your cooperation, please accept the assurances of our highest esteem.”

Vote only credible candidates, APC ex-Reps tell delegates

Rising from a meeting yesterday in Abuja, former APC members of the House of Representatives Forum asked delegates to the Convention to ensure they vote only credible and visionary candidates into office to properly reposition the party.

The forum also charged the leadership of the party to ensure the sustainability of internal democracy in the ruling party.

The forum in a communique signed by its protem chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Zailani, said it was in the interest of the party that internal democracy reigns supreme.

The forum commended the Federal Government for its efforts in tackling insecurity, economic crisis and anti-corruption in the country but called for more action to enhance peace and development.

The meeting was attended by former members from all the states of the federations, including those that served in the 2nd and 3rd republics.

Ekiti 2022: Ex-Gov Oni plans to pick APGA ticket

Few days after the governorship primary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, one of the aggrieved aspirants, Engr Segun Oni, has concluded plans to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) to contest for the June 18 governorship poll.

The Nation reliably gathered that Oni is at the verge of finalising discussions with the national leadership of APGA to get the governorship ticket.

It was learnt that his decision to dump PDP for APGA was hinged on the alleged manipulation that characterised the just- concluded party’s governorship primary, which produced Otunba Bisi Kolawole who is believed to be preferred aspirant of Ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The former Governor is expected to lead over 70,000 members of the opposition PDP across the 177 wards in the State to APGA on Saturday.

A credible source within the Segun Oni Campaign confirmed that the Ex-Governor will run on the platform of APGA where his name would be listed before the close of substitution.

He stated that Oni was putting finishing touches to his plan to leave PDP for the APGA, adding that he will declare for his new party any moment from Saturday.

The source said: “I can confirm that Oga Segun Oni is leaving PDP any moment from Saturday (today). His decision was informed by the undemocratic manner the just concluded governorship primary was conducted by Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel to favour Ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose’s anointed aspirant.

“So, Oni is convinced that opposition PDP that proud itself as the most democratic political party in Africa is not yet ready to change its usual ways of imposition and godfatherism”.

He hinted the former Governor would be leaving PDP with a sizeable number of members, adding that 10 political parties are willing to adopt Oni as their sole candidate for the forthcoming poll.

When contacted, the Director of Media of Segun Oni Campaign Council, Hon. Lanre Ogunsuyi, said he can neither confirm nor deny the former Governor’s defection plans.

“The rumour is thick. And there can’t be a smoke without fire. Let’s wait patiently till tomorrow,” he stressed.
