His decision came after he resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday.
This was contained in a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Sunday.
The statement recalled that Governor Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014 when he won the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat, a position he later conceded to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
It noted that after years of political engagement across different platforms, including his most recent stint in the NNPP, prevailing realities of governance, national cohesion, and development necessitated his return to the APC, which he described as a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.
Governor Yusuf stated that rejoining the APC would further strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, enhance security coordination, and improve service delivery across Kano State.
He added that the decision would also consolidate political stability and unity in the state.
On Monday, 26 January 2026, the governor will formally register as a member of the APC in Kano alongside 22 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and the 44 local government chairmen.
Yusuf is also expected to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in the state.
The National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) has suspended all forms of revenue collection in its name with immediate effect, pending institutional reforms and the harmonisation of its governance structures.
The resolution was part of key decisions unanimously adopted at the NCAN Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Stakeholders’ Forum held in Abuja.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the association also condemned what it described as increasing foreign encroachment across Nigeria’s cashew value chain, warning that such practices undermine local farmers, processors, exporters, and the country’s economic interests.
In a communiqué signed by the NCAN Secretariat, with Mr. Olarotimi Ayeka listed as Secretary and Mr. Ademola Bamidele Adesokan as President, NCAN rejected calls for a ban on cashew nut exports, stressing that it would instead engage government authorities to promote value addition, improved seeding, respect for contract agreements by foreign buyers, and stronger support for cashew farmers.
On policy direction, the AGM expressly opposed any proposal for an outright ban on the export of Raw Cashew Nuts (RCN), noting that such a move could disrupt livelihoods.
The association said any policy intervention must strike a balance between value addition, farmer welfare, export competitiveness, and national interest.
In a major leadership shake-up, the AGM dissolved the Ojo Ajanaku–led administration, citing loss of confidence and legitimacy.
Members and stakeholders present at the meeting endorsed and ratified Mr. Ademola Bamidele Adesokan as the new President of NCAN. The association said an official gazetted communiqué reflecting the leadership transition would be issued before the end of the week.
The AGM further resolved to undertake a comprehensive review and amendment of the NCAN constitution to reflect current industry realities.
The planned amendments include provisions to ensure that only bona fide cashew stakeholders can become president, prevent any president from exceeding constitutionally defined tenure, and establish a clear, transparent, and enforceable leadership succession framework.
As part of its immediate directives, NCAN ordered all revenue agents and representatives nationwide to cease revenue collection activities on behalf of the association.
It warned that any individual or group that defies the directive would be reported and treated as acting illegally.
The communiqué also disclosed that all state police commands have been formally notified of the resolutions through the Office of the Inspector-General of Police.

“As police operatives advanced into the area with patrol vans and sirens, the kidnappers, realizing that security forces were closing in on them, abandoned the victim and fled. The kidnapped victim was consequently rescued alive.
“The victim sustained a head injury during the ordeal and was promptly conveyed to the General Hospital, Oyo, where he is currently receiving appropriate medical attention.
“The swift rescue, achieved within hours of the abduction, underscores the professionalism, vigilance, and dedication of the Oyo State Police Command in responding decisively to threats against public safety.”

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Saturday arrested two suspected members of a band of sea pirates in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State, as they were fine-tuning plans to hijack a crude oil-laden vessel in the Gulf of Guinea, The Nation gathered on Sunday.
The men, identified as Geoffrey Atizara, 38, from Aleibiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, and Divine Kelechi Unueze, 42, from Nekede in Owerri, Imo State, were nabbed at a hotel on Tenacious Street in the Edepie area of Yenagoa, according to security sources.
According to a reliable security source, preliminary intelligence, corroborated by the suspects’ confessional statements, revealed that the men, along with other band members, were plotting to seize a vessel, abduct its crew, and steal its cargo.
According to the source, Unueze was the financier of the operation, while Atizara was tasked with recruiting additional pirates.
“The duo have admitted to being part of a high-profile criminal network operating in the South East and South South parts of Nigeria, mainly profiting from sea piracy and kidnapping,” the source offered.
“Given the sophistication and the resources at the disposal of this pirate band, this arrest has disrupted what could have been a major threat to maritime security in the oil-rich Gulf of Guinea region,” one of the sources declared.
Another source disclosed that the DSS, in concert with the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies, has intensified intelligence-driven operations to curb maritime security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea.
“Recent successes,” the source disclosed, “include the interception of several pirate speedboats and the rescue of crew members from hijacked vessels off the coasts of Bayelsa and Delta States.”
The arrest of the two suspected sea pirates in Bayelsa state marks additional successes by security agencies in the region, he added.
Recall that barely a week ago, the DSS, in separate joint operations with sister security agencies and forest guards, rescued some abducted pastors and other individuals in Kaduna and Borno States.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has revealed in a preliminary assessment that chemical materials stored at an industrial facility were responsible for a major fire at a warehouse in Badagry, Lagos.
The fire, which broke out at about 7:25 p.m., on Saturday evening, occurred at a warehouse used for chemical blending and storage within a larger industrial cluster.
LASEMA said the inferno spread rapidly, engulfing an estimated 15,000 square metres of the facility.
In a statement issued by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA disclosed that the intensity of the fire was heightened by the nature of the materials stored at the site.
“The affected facility is a warehouse and chemical blending and storage site. The fire rapidly spread across an estimated 15,000sqm, involving stored chemical materials. The intensity of the incident led to intermittent explosions for several hours,” the statement said.
The explosions, according to the agency, caused widespread panic and posed a significant threat to nearby facilities and residents in the surrounding community.
LASEMA said the fire was eventually contained through a coordinated emergency response involving its Response Unit, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, and private fire assets provided by Veepee.
Damping-down operations have since commenced, with emergency responders maintaining a presence at the scene to prevent re-ignition and protect adjoining facilities.
The agency explained that firefighting operations were carried out from multiple access points. While the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service led suppression efforts from the main entrance, LASEMA Fire teams provided support from the rear of the facility.
LASEMA also acknowledged the assistance of beverage company Lacasera, which supplied water to sustain firefighting operations.
Preliminary assessments by emergency responders identified several risk factors that may have contributed to the scale and severity of the fire.
“These include a high volume of volatile chemical storage within a confined space, inadequate ventilation within the warehouse facility, and insufficient emergency preparedness measures to manage a fire of this magnitude,” LASEMA said.
The agency noted that investigations were ongoing to determine the immediate cause of the fire outbreak.
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has returned 2,950 plots of land to individuals whose buildings were demolished and land seized at Oke-Oromo Community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area.
Former Governor Godwin Obaseki had demolished the affected buildings for the purpose of establishing the Coral City.
Governor Okpebholo had promised to look into the issue and ensured the victims got justice shortly after he was elected.
The Edo Governor, in fulfilment of his promise, has begun issuing allocation letters to eligible property owners for the return of 2,950 plots to genuine owners.
Commissioner for Land and Housing Hon.Yakubu Musa, who spoke in Benin City at the weekend, said hopes of the victims of Oke-Oroma Community demolition have been restored.
The Commissioner said relevant documents were verified before issuing allocation letters to eligible property owners marking the commencement of reclaiming back their land.
He said the Ministry earlier authenticated true owners of properties in the community.
According to him, “Based on the approval of Gov Okpebholo to return the land seized by the previous administration at Oke-Oroma to developers, and property owners. We commenced a one week exercise to authenticate true owners of the land and return the same.
“We have commenced giving out the offer letters as we have about 1,550 beneficiaries that will be given letters to cover 2,950 plots of land.
“While distributing offer letters to beneficiaries, surveyors have started working on the land to physically demarcate the plots while bulldozers are already cleaning the plots and by next week plots will be given back to the genuine owners.
“We commended the governor for showing that governance has a human face. Gov Okpebholo has brought joy to the hearts of the people of Oke-Oroma Community who thought they had lost all their investments. He promised during the campaign that he would return the land to genuine owners and that process has already commenced. This exercise has shown that governor Okpebholo truly loves Edo people as he ensured justice is served for the people of the community.”
One of the victims, Adebayo Benjamin Ogenelkheme, thanked Governor Okpebholo for restoring their hope, and keeping the promises made during his campaign to the area.
“I am here at the Ministry of land and Housing regarding our landed property forcefully taken by the previous administration. We are here to go through the process of reclaiming our land. The process is very smooth and orderly despite the large numbers of people here.
“I want to thank the governor who is a promise keeper, he said he will do it and today he has done it, I have received my allocation letter. I have lost hope of getting back my land after the land was taken. I thought all hope was lost but Gov Okpebholo restored that hope.”

He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and ongoing strategic policing reforms, which he said have improved intelligence sharing and operational efficiency nationwide.
The police boss, however, urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
