Otu’s Chief of Protocol gets, dedicates ‘Miracle’ son after 14 years

After what was an emotionally agonising 14 long years of patient waiting, silent tears and unbroken faith, joy finally dawned on the household of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Abang, the Chief of Protocol to Cross River Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, with the birth of a baby boy, an event the family describes as “a divine visitation and a triumph of faith.”

In the words of Abang, what once seemed a distant hope has become a living reality, turning years of longing into laughter and thanksgiving.

Speaking on the moment that changed their story, Abang said the arrival of the child reaffirmed his belief in divine timing.

“This is God’s answer written in flesh and blood,” he said. “We waited, we prayed, and we trusted. Today, heaven has smiled on us, and our home is filled with joy beyond words.
Our story stands as proof that faith, when held firmly, is always rewarded in God’s own time.”

Mrs Abang, visibly moved, recalled the emotional journey that preceded the birth. “There were days of quiet prayers and nights of tears,” she said. “But we never lost faith. This child is our testimony that delay is not denial, and that God’s promises are sure.”

According to the family, the birth has drawn an outpouring of goodwill messages from friends, relatives and faith communities who followed their journey over the years. “The calls, prayers and tears of joy we have received show that this miracle belongs to many, not just us,” Mrs. Abang added.

In gratitude for what they describe as an answered prayer, the Abangs on Sunday held a special thanksgiving and dedication ceremony at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ikot Ansa, Calabar, to formally present their miracle before God.

“This is our way of saying thank you,” Mr. Abang explained. “We want to return the glory to God and publicly acknowledge His mercy.”

Expressing their felicitations, religious leaders and close associates described the Abangs’ story as a powerful message to couples currently in seasons of waiting. One cleric noted, “Their testimony reminds us that God’s calendar is different from ours, but it is always perfect.”

Close family members say the birth has also strengthened bonds of shared faith and collective joy. “This child has united people in thanksgiving,” a family friend remarked. “It is a reminder that perseverance and prayer still yield results.”

Eno charges Youths to shun narcotics, embrace productive ventures

Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has charged youths across the country to shun narcotics and hard drugs, warning that drug abuse poses a grave threat to families, communities, and national development.

He urged young people to take advantage of available opportunities and engage in productive ventures.

“Drug abuse is a challenge that touches families, communities, and every generation. It steals dreams, destroys lives, and weakens the foundations of our society,” the Governor said.

He disclosed that his administration is working closely with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to intensify the fight against illicit drugs, while sustaining advocacy and behavioural change campaigns through the State Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM), religious, social and cultural organisations. Summit courts private sector partnerships for improved maritime security in Niger Delta

The Niger Delta Blue Economy Investment Summit has called on private sector companies working in the area of maritime security to deploy  a coordinated approach to ensure maximum impact.

We remember when oil theft and vandalization of pipelines were daily nightmares in the Niger Delta.

“Losses due to oil theft reduced our country’s production capacity to sometimes 600,000 barrels per day far below our more than 2,000,000 barrels per day production capacity. The country was hemorrhaging and our nation was helplessly losing revenue which jeopardized  development across all sectors.

“This was before the Amnesty program and the efforts of companies like yours and ofcourse Tantita Security Limited among others in securing our national assets especially the pipeline Infrastructure”.

There will be a session dedicated to maritime security so that government and private sector players like Target One Group remain on the same page of continuous improvement. According to him, the gathering marked the beginning of a renewed phase in relations between the people of Ikot Udo in Ika L.G.A and their neighbours from Ukwa East and adjoining communities in Abia State.

Nwoko recalled that a similar peace meeting held on March 17, 2025, produced resolutions that have sustained peace between the communities up to the present time.

He expressed gratitude to the Governors and Deputy Governors of Akwa Ibom and Abia States for approving and supporting the continued convening of the peace meetings, and described their interventions as a clear demonstration of commitment to peace-building and inter-state cooperation.

The Council Chairman further explained that Ikot Udo Village in Ika Local Government Area shares a boundary with Abiaka Village in Ibeme, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

He recalled that resolutions reached at the 2025 meeting was that both states would commence road construction from their respective natural boundaries, with Obingwa communities constructing towards their boundary, while Ika communities undertake construction from Ikot Udo through Nto Mfong and Ikot Akata to Urua Inyang, covering a distance of about 3.7 kilometres.

He further emphasized that there is no genuine boundary dispute between the communities, stressing that no party is laying claim to land, houses, forests, cultural artefacts or economic trees.

Nwoko equally clarified that Ika Local Government Area does not have any boundary dispute with Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, noting that while the Akirika Obu people claim customary tenancy under Obingwa LGA and trace their ancestral roots to Ukwa East near Port Harcourt in Rivers State, such narratives should not undermine peaceful coexistence or inter-community cooperation.

Appealing for continuity of the road project, the Council Chairman urged the Abia State Government to continue construction from Ntinwouzo through Obete Ibeme to Abiaka Ibeme, the last village in Obingwa L.G.A, while the Akwa Ibom State Government completes its section from Ikot Udo through Nto Mfong and Ikot Akata to Urua Inyang in Ika L.G.A.

He said completion of the road would further promote harmonious relations between Ika L.G.A of Akwa Ibom State and Obingwa LGA of Abia State, while strengthening ties with Ukwa East indigenes residing peacefully in the area.

Nwoko also appealed for adequate security for contractors handling the project to ensure uninterrupted work and timely completion, reiterating that the people of Ika, Akwa Ibom State and Abia State are peace-loving and committed to unity and development.

He concluded by appreciating the sacrifices, goodwill and interventions of leaders from both states, praying for peace in their homes and administrations, and expressing confidence that the meeting would yield fruitful outcomes.

In their separate remarks, Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor Senator ( Dr.) Akon Eyakenyi, and her Abia Counterpart, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, pleaded with the people of Ikot Udo in Ika Local Government Area and Ukwa East in Abia State to embrace peace for lasting development.

They urged youths from the two communities to get involved in productive ventures to improve their families rather than engage in senseless feud, so as to encourage governments of the two States do more for them.

The peace parley was attended by relevant stakeholders from the two States.

  • Group warns NJC, FJSC on petitions over Judges appointment

Group warns NJC, FJSC on petitions over Judges appointment

The Africa Centre For Good Governance And Corruption Free Communities has called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Federal Judicial Service (FJSC) to to be mindful of what it described as the conspiracy and frivolous petitions against nominees for the appointment of  judges to Federal High Court.

The group, in a statement, Sunday, told the judicial bodies to investigate how some petitions against the nominees leaked to the public.

According to the Convener of the group,

Temitope Olubunmi Joseph, the NJC should invoke it’s rules on leaked petitions by discarding them.

He said such petitions should not be considered having being leaked to the media.

The group said it is in possession of the petition written against Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Blessing Nkechi Ezeala, who was accused of compromise in the discharge of her duties, asking why it was leaked to the media, if it was not for conspiracy purpose.

The group said: “Our organisation is in possession of the petition against Blessing Nkechi Ezeala and we can confidently confirm that the petition against Blessing Nkechi Ezeala was leaked to the media with an already prepared news report on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at about 3pm.

“Again, at this point, may we ask, what is motive of the petitioner by leaking the petition to the media. We would have thought that since the petition had been submitted to the relevant judicial bodies and individuals, the petitioner would have left it there and allow them to take a look at it and consider it one way or the other.

“We challenge the petitioner to prove some the allegations contained in the petition”.

He said the NJC, the FJSC and other relevant judicial bodies should bear in mind that once members of the public are called upon to make comments and observations about an individual for an exalted position, such as was done by the FJSC, all manner of allegations will be flying, true and untrue.

He said thorough investigations should be conducted on petitions submitted against nominees to ascertain those with genuine case amd those that are frivolous.

“We make bold to say that the sole aim of leaking the petitions was to paint CSP Nkechi Blessing Ezeala and others black in the eyes of the members of the public.

“A move our organisation condemn in its  entirety and we call on the the NJC and other bodies in line with its National Judicial Policy and Judicial Discipline Regulations of Nigeria to discard the petition against CSP Nkechi Blessing Ezeala, and others, having been leaked to the public.

“Our organisation has reliably gathered that some very powerful forces have ganged up and are bent on stopping CSP Blessing Nkechi Ezeala, from being appointed to the position of a Judge of the Federal Republic of Nigeria based on enforcement of judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory over a property in Wuse, Abuja, for which the Petitioner grossly violated the Order of Court by forcefully regaining possession of the property after he was evicted by the Court, which led to his lawful arrest by the Police.

“The petitioner failed to show that the CSP compromised in the discharge of her duty or that the investigation conducted by the Inspector General of Police into the case found her culpable. If the FJSC considered the Petition, would it not have asked for the Police investigation report on the case? Adopting the leaked Petition and allegations of the petitioner, without thorough investigation, clearly supports the theory of grand conspiracy against the CSP,” he also said.

Based on the National Judicial Policy and Judicial Discipline Regulations of Nigeria, the National Judicial Council (NJC) generally will not look into or will discontinue a petition that has been leaked to the public or discussed in the media.

The NJC policy emphasises strict confidentiality to protect the integrity of the judiciary and the reputation of judicial officers against frivolous or malicious complaints.

“The NJC, the FJSC, and other relevant judicial bodies should particularly, be concerned and careful in considering the petitions made against nominees because not only are the petitions full of falsehood against the nominees, they were also deliberately leaked to the public, particularly, the media to tarnish and stop the process for the appointment of some of the nominees.

“From our investigation, since the FJSC published the names of the nominees and called for public comments,  and observations on the nominees, many interested Nigerians and organisations have filed petitions to the NJC, FJSC and other relevant bodies.

“Our organisation was able to lay our hands on one of such petitions to the FJSC, NJC and other judicial bodies, which was filed against a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Blessing Nkechi Ezeala.

“In the petition dated September 22, 2025, signed by Sanni Abass Esq., on behalf of his client, one Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya, CSP Blessing Nkechi Ezeala, whom from our investigation has been a very dutiful officer, who carries out her duties without fear or favour, was said to have compromised in the discharge of her duty.

“Like we observed earlier, the petitions are full of lies and was deliberately leaked to the public and the media to paint CSP Blessing Nkechi Ezeala and other nominees with similar petitions in bad light,” the group emphasised.
