“Niger State is being referred to as the food basket of the country largely due to our largest land mass in the country (about 76.36km2) which is also suitable for agriculture and being made use by the government and large percentage of the people. But the growing security concern means that our people are constantly at the mercy of bandits and other criminal elements,” the governor lamented.

The governor who also decried nefarious activities of the illegal miners in the state promised to continue to work on how to better equip the security agencies in the state by donating more vehicles and housing units.

Very soon, there will be more funds coming to the local government from the federal account.”

On his economic empowerment initiative to his constituents, Senator Plang said: “I know how life is always tough for farmers in the rainy season, and you know in my Senatorial zone, farming is the mainstay of livelihood.

“And this time around my people are, at the same time suffering the negative impacts of insecurity.

So this empowerment is a desire to register my feelings to my people in these unfortunate situations…

“For a start, I am here to disburse as little as N48 million, to 3000 beneficiaries, apart from other relief materials. I know these people that give me a mandate deserve more, but I was to assure them that this is just the beginning.”

Speaking at the event which was held at the Millennium City Kaduna, the governor lauded the Embassy of Qatar in Nigeria and the Qatari-owned Sanabil Project for keying into what he described as “business-friendly environment inherent in Kaduna State.”

Sani commended the Qatari Government for choosing Kaduna to be the location of its Mega Economic City and the mass housing project for the vulnerable and underserved citizens.

“The Economic City will provide world class infrastructure and make Kaduna a reference point in modern and affordable accommodation with adequate security and a conducive atmosphere for business activities.

  • Southern Kaduna group begs Tinubu for ministerial slot

Southern Kaduna group begs Tinubu for ministerial slot

A social-political group, Southern Kaduna Political Forum (SKPF), has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider a person from zone for ministerial and other positions.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the National Coordinator of the forum, Josiah Luka Waje, said the call has become imperative in the interest of equity, fairness, and justice.

Waje said the previous minister appointed during the immediate past administration was from the Northern senatorial zone; hence it is the turn of Southern Kaduna.

He said Kaduna deserves two ministerial positions giving the historical background of the state.

“In view of these poignant factors, Southern Kaduna is, therefore, the next priority zone for consideration of ministerial appointment in the present dispensation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu even if it is only one slot that will be conceded to Kaduna state,” he said.

The National coordinator noted that Southern Kaduna zone was lagging behind in the areas of social amenities and infrastructural development.

Waje said aside from the ministerial appointment, the forum also craved juicy appointments at the state and federal levels to complement their efforts in further developing their areas.

“We strongly believe that no one can love and care for us better than Dr Abdulmalik Durungwa, a protagonist and major campaigner of Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 President campaign. He is a former governorship aspirant who is a strong believer in a united Nigeria. He is a hard working administrator per excellence, and reliable Political partner of both Muslim and Christian.

“We believe that if President Tinubu considers Durungwa as a minister, he will give the people of Southern Kaduna a sense of belonging. It will in no small measure bridge the gaps of the high unemployment rate of our Women and Youth, lack of social amenities, and infrastructural deficit plaguing the zone.”

Waje, however, hailed Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, for bringing investment to the state and ensuring unity among the people within the past three months.

Niger coup: Dialogue remains best approach

The South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Blessing Agbomhere, has said dialogue remained the best approach to resolving the political logjam in Niger Republic following a coup that removed President Mohamed Bazoum from office.

The APC chieftain urged Nigeria not to shy away from maintaining democratic rule in the West African sub region.

Nigeria, he said, has played the role over the years of restoring democracy in Liberia, Sao Tome, Sierra Leone and Cote D’Ivoire.

Agbomhere, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators and an advocate of Rule of Law, said President Bola Tinubu has the capacity to return Niger Republic back to democratic rule and ousted President Bazoum back in office.

He said Nigeria, under the command of Tinubu and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu has the capacity to de-radicalise Niger Republic soldiers within 24 hours and restore Bazoum back to office.

He said Tinubu is prepared to make Nigeria great again, adding that: “all we must do is to encourage and support him to reposition Nigeria to take her place of pride as the Giant of Africa.”

  • I have no hand in Al-Makura, Abdullahi Adamu’s political misfortune, says Sule

I have no hand in Al-Makura, Abdullahi Adamu’s political misfortune, says Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has denied playing any role in the “political misfortune” of Senators Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Abdullahi Adamu.

Senator Al-Makura had lost his re-election to the Senate during the 2023 election and was schemed out in the just concluded ministerial appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu recently resigned his position as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to irreconcilable differences.

Some national dailies (not The Nation) had recently reported that Governor Sule was behind the senatorial election loss of Al-Makura and his inability to be part of the recently appointed ministers as well as Senator Adamu resignation, noting that the governor tactically retired the duo from politics.

Speaking yesterday in a press conference at the NUJ secretariat Lafia, Governor Sule through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba, said Senator Al-Makura’s name was the first among the three names the governor submitted to the President for appointment as a minister representing Nasarawa state.

“It is a known fact that the appointment of ministers is solely the prerogative of Mr President to consider and appoint whoever he wants from each state as a member of the Federal Executive Council. Governor Sule’s power to determine who is appointed a minister is limited. Governor Sule wholeheartedly supported Al-Makura’s re-election back to the Senate which he unfortunately lost to the PDP candidate,” Ahemba said.

He explained that Governor Sule had no hand in the political squabbles that led to Adamu’s resignation as APC national chairman, saying: “It is rather mischievous for anyone to insinuate and or accuse Governor Sule of responsible for the internal disagreement among members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party that led to the voluntary resignation of Senator Adamu.

“The unfortunate development has nothing absolutely to do with the governor. It is on record that Governor Sule was the first APC Governor to openly declare support for Nasarawa state to have National Chairman of the ruling party and worked relentlessly for its realization

“Again, when there were agitations in some quarters for the ousting of the national chairman early this year, Governor Sule stood firm against the move, without minding the implication on his re-election bid. How then will the governor turn around to destroy the house he contributed immensely to building?”

He described the report as mischievous with potency to cause unnecessary friction between the governor and the two political leaders in the state, and urged both Senators Al-Makura and Adamu to be wary of mischief makers.

Congress hails Tinubu over Matawalle’s nomination

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has commended President Bola Tinubu for the ministerial nomination of the former Zamfara state Governor, Bello Matawalle.

The group said the decision reflects a commitment to inclusivity, unity, and the recognition of exceptional leadership qualities.

Its National Coordinator, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, in a statement said Matawalle’s track record as an ex-Governor demonstrates his dedication to public service, effective governance, and the betterment of the lives of the people he serves.

He also said the nomination amongst others, sends a positive message to the youths, emphasizing the importance of embracing unity amidst diversity.

He stated: “Matawalle’s nomination comes at a pivotal time in Nigeria’s history, marked by challenges that demand innovative solutions and cohesive governance.

“President Tinubu’s selection of Bello Matawalle acknowledges the need for a government that is not only diverse but also responsive to the aspirations and concerns of citizens.

“Matawalle will undoubtedly bring his unique perspective and experiences to the federal level, thus contributing to a broader understanding of challenges and potential solutions. His inclusive leadership style, as demonstrated during his tenure as governor, offers hope for effective collaboration between the federal government and regional authorities.”
