FG, foundation launch pilot feeding programme in Kaduna School

In a significant step towards improving child nutrition and education, the Federal Government through the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP), has launched a pilot feeding programme at Jere Tsangaya School in the Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The programme attended by the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu; key government officials, development partners, and community stakeholders underscores President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling child hunger, enhancing education, and supporting vulnerable communities.

The event held at Jere in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State is a pilot programme for the RH-NHGSFP model in partnership with Aminu Musa Abdulsalam (AMA) Foundation and Kaduna State Government to ensure that more children in Tsangaya schools and underserved communities benefit from sustainable, nutritious feeding interventions.

Speaking during the launching of the feeding programme, Sununu, who disclosed that over 785 pupils of this institution were enrolled and captured in the National Register, commended the Homegrown School Feeding Programme for demonstrating collaboration with other intergovernmental agencies.

He said: “Mr. President’s will is to see that families have enough buffer that can allow them to have the freedom to do their normal activities in the country so that they can contribute positively to the development.

“In this regard, our ministry is ever ready to face that challenge. Let me assure Nigerians, the suspension has been placed following the happenings in the ministry in the last few months.

“That suspension of all social intervention programmes in Nigeria has been lifted by Mr. President.

“I want to assure all the empowered beneficiaries that their dues will soon be settled and we will continue with the programme’s grant to the vulnerable groups and other social interventions, such as the Homeschool Feeding Program that we are flagging off today will not only be restored but will come in a better form that will see the advantage by Nigerians so that everybody will have to trust.

“On our part, we assure you that we are going to be transparent enough and very accountable so that we can restore the trust of not only Nigerians but of the international community to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction so that together we cannot only walk the talk but we can reach people at their doorstep.”

Speaking earlier, the National Programme Manager of Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, Dr. Aderemi Adebowale, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing the next generation by investing in their well-being and education.

“As we launch this enhanced feeding programme, we are not just providing meals; we are securing the future of our children. The success of this initiative is a testament to what we can achieve through collaboration, dedication, and a shared vision,” she said.

Dr. Adebowale also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction for championing the initiative and to the National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Prof. Badamasi Lawal, for steering the agency towards achieving President Tinubu’s vision for vulnerable citizens. She also appreciated the Almajiri Commission, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the National Orientation Agency, and other key stakeholders for their unwavering support.

Adebowale also commended the outstanding contribution of the Aminu Musa Abdulsalam Foundation, who not only bolstered the feeding programme but also undertook critical interventions, such as the construction of a modern kitchen, provision of cooking utensils for 1,000 pupils, installation of a water supply system, donation of footwear, and medical care support for students, among others.

She also commended the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme team and its consultant, TANTACOM Experiential Projects Ltd, for their strategic coordination and execution of the initiative, as well as the headmaster, teachers, community leaders, parents, and cooks for their dedication in ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme.

…Kano Tops Maternal Mortality Chart as Stakeholders Identify Key Causes

Participants at the ongoing workshop on the implementation design of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) in Kano have identified the major causes of maternal deaths in Nigeria, highlighting why Kano State leads in the statistics.

The stakeholders developed a strategic template to address these challenges, which stem from health complications, cultural factors, and socioeconomic conditions.

The federal government launched the MAMII implementation design on Monday with the Kano workshop, aiming to significantly reduce or eliminate maternal deaths nationwide.

Among the participants were Dr. Saidu Ahmed Dombulwa, Director in the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and National Programme Manager of NEMSAS; Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf; and representatives from the National ALGON, Northern Governors Forum, and various medical professionals from across the country.

Key causes of maternal deaths identified include hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, obstetric hemorrhage, pregnancy-related sepsis, acute cardiac diseases, HIV/AIDS-related complications, and uterine rupture.

In their social autopsy, the team found out that financial constraints and lack of health insurance significantly delay access to medical care.

They discovered high prevalence of young or underaged mothers with poor knowledge of healthcare as well as non existence of emergency transport system at health facilities.

Also, inadequate number of staff at health facilities was identified as a major challenge, as the participants observed that a midwife who is available only three days a week was not seen at the time of visit at the facility where she works.

“Access challenges, including poor road infrastructure and long distances to health facilities, worsen these delays.

“Health system inadequacies, such as insufficient staffing, lack of essential resources, and poor communication, further hinder timely and effective care.

“Community factors, including reliance on traditional medicine and cultural norms influencing healthcare decision-making, were also identified as critical barriers.

“After identifying the challenges and barriers, the participants reviewed their findings from the field and co-created a template of intervention suite for MAMII,“ the communique by the participants said.

  • Group backs INEC’s N126bn budget proposal

Group backs INEC’s N126bn budget proposal

The Peering Advocacy and Advancement Center in Africa (PAACA) has backed the proposed N126 billion budget presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2025 fiscal year, describing it as essential for credible elections in Nigeria.

In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, PAACA Executive Director, Ezenwa Nwagwu commended INEC for its transparency in presenting its financial needs and detailed breakdown of planned expenditures to the National Assembly.

The statement comes amidst ongoing debates in the National Assembly over INEC’s budget proposal, with the Commission emphasizing the need for robust funding to meet the rising costs of election administration in Nigeria.

The PAACA boss noted that the proposed N126 billion budget reflected the reality of electoral management in Nigeria, including funding for off-cycle elections, voter registration, and the replacement of damaged materials.

The statement said: “The challenge is when people look at the budget, what they see is the figure. However, what they fail to see is that the budget has four components – personnel cost, overhead, electoral expenditure and capital projects.

“INEC currently has 14,786 career staff scattered in all INEC offices in the 774 local government areas across the country. The Commission also has 51 political appointees which include National commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC). Now, if we take into consideration the recent minimum wage increment announced by the Federal government and its consequential adjustment in line with NSIWC Circular, you can imagine how much of the budget will go into payment of salaries. The personnel cost is already taking 85 billion of the budget. We are also screaming on INEC to train its personnel and embark on voter education, all of these require funding.

“Also, many Nigerians have misunderstood that 2025 is not an election year. Contrary to that, INEC has 12 off-cycle elections, the Anambra governorship and FCT area council election this 2025. These require significant financial resources for preparation and execution.

“Besides, INEC is responsible for more than just elections every four years. From voter registration and maintenance of polling units to constituency delimitation and political party regulation, the Commission’s activities are ongoing.

“Furthermore, Nigeria’s unique electoral challenges, including attacks on electoral facilities, require sustained financial commitment. Over 440 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, ballot boxes, and voting cubicles have been destroyed and must be replaced. These are realities and funding shortfalls t also a threat to the integrity of elections.

“In addition to elections, there are numerous electoral activities, including Voter Registration, the cleaning-up of the voters’ register, voter distribution to polling units etc. For instance, INEC is expected to resume Continuous Voter Registration across over 8,800 centers nationwide, this critical exercise ensures that eligible voters who have turned 18 are not disenfranchised.”

Ezenwa explained that the current inflation in the country has affected the cost of running and managing elections

He further urged the Federal Government to prioritise the early release of funds to enable INEC to plan and execute electoral activities seamlessly, especially with the Anambra governorship elections.

The statement added: “Delays in fund disbursement undermine election preparedness, leading to rushed processes, operational and logistics bottlenecks. Early release of funds will empower INEC to carry out voter registration, rehabilitate its facilities, and ensure adequate preparation for upcoming off-cycle elections. We don’t have to wait to blame INEC, if we fail to prepare early, the consequences are always there waiting.”

The organisation also called on the National Assembly to approve the proposed budget without unnecessary cuts, noting that INEC’s financial needs are critical for strengthening democracy in Nigeria.

“As citizens, we must recognize that credible elections are the backbone of good governance. Supporting INEC with adequate funding is not just a financial obligation but a commitment to safeguarding our democratic processes,” it added.

  • First Lady unveils foundation stone of Oluremi Tinubu hospital, distributes 10,00 kits to Kwara midwives

First Lady unveils foundation stone of Oluremi Tinubu hospital, distributes 10,00 kits to Kwara midwives

Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is an outstanding leader and amazing achiever who has done exceptionally well for his people, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu said on Wednesday as her visit to the state capital entered the second day.

Joined by the wife of the Vice President Nana Shettima, Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman, his wife Amb. Olufolake Abdulrazaq and several other first ladies from across the country, the day began with the First Lady flagging off the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to midwives in the North Central region.

Next to that was her launching of the General Tunde Idiagbon Flyover in Ilorin — a gesture the widow of the no-nonsense late general Cecilia Idiagbon said was memorable and reflective of Governor Abdulrazaq’s respect for history.

Senator Tinubu later visited the Innovation Hub, a facility that is designed to be Kwara’s version of the Silicon Valley to raise generations of techies and build skills that resolve local developmental challenges.

“I am so, so glad with what I have seen. This is truly amazing, and I am going back home to tell the President what I have seen. You (Governor) are a man truly in love with your people. You have really done so well,” she said as the Managing Director of the Hub Temi Kolawole took her through the mandate of the multibilion naira facility while the Governor and his wife sat next to her.

The sight of the facility triggered a brief conversation around her setting up a “Dream Centre”, which she said is an idea she hopes would give talented underprivileged children a platform to shine and rule their world.

“What I have seen here is borne out of a clear dream about where the Governor wants his people to be. This dream is coming alive…. We can stay here forever. You have enough projects to showcase, and I am indeed very proud of you,” the Senator said.

Her motorcade then headed to the site of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hospital, the foundation stone of which she unveiled.

Designed to be a multi-storey building, the hospital is rising from the ashes of the old civil service clinic in the GRA and is meant to offer premium healthcare services for the people of the state and beyond, according to the Commissioner for Health Dr. Amina Ahmed el-Imam.

The First Lady then officially opened the Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari Flyover in downtown Ilorin — named after the revered Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs.

The General Tunde Idiagbon Flyover is 562m long, while the Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari Flyover stretches across 457.4 metres — both of them adding to the road networks which reduce travel time and the aesthetics of the capital city.

Senator Tinubu immediately proceeded to the Sugar Factory Film Studio, another legacy project of the Abdulrazaq administration, wrapping up the day’s activities.

Speaking at the distribution of professional kits for midwives, Senator Tinubu commended the Governor and his wife for the top-quality hospitality accorded her and her entourage.

“This is the standard we want to see in other states. This is truly amazing. Everything we have seen is of very good quality. Despite the short notice, the hospitality is amazing, and I want other First Ladies to copy this as a template,” she said.

Speaking on the kits presented to midwives, she said: “This is to complement the ongoing federal government’s retraining exercise of 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide. I am informed that the 54,346,000 health workers have already completed their training, and that is why the Renewed Hope Initiatives (RHI) procured 60,000 branded scrubs and 60,000 crocs as incentives to encourage and support the tireless dedication of our midwives,” she said.

“All the six geopolitical zones will be receiving 10,000 crocs and 10,000 scrubs to be shared among the states in the region. We will be visiting other states for the allocation of these items.

“Tomorrow by the grace of God, I will be launching the free to shine and triple elimination campaigns of HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis also here in Kwara state.”

Governor Abdulrazaq commended the First Lady for the humanitarian gestures, saying: “The kits will not only ensure that our health workers are well-equipped to perform their duties but also send a strong message of solidarity and hope to those who are devoted to protecting the health of our mothers and children.

“These dedicated men and women deserve our full support, and this gesture by Her Excellency is a clear reflection of the commitment to their welfare and safety.”

Mrs AbdulRazaq, in her remarks, said the initiative by the First Lady exemplifies her commitment to the welfare and professionalism of midwives across the nation, and praised her for her service to humanity.

“We are confident that these kits will significantly enhance the quality of maternal and child healthcare services in our zone,” she said.

Minister of State for Health Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako said midwives play vital roles in preventing maternal and perinatal death, and are most times the only skilled health professionals available in communities.

He described the event as a significant step to strengthen the capacity of midwives and advance the goals of sustainable development.

Executive Director National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) Dr Muyi Aina, who highlighted some of the achievements of the agency, said the professional kits will strengthen the work of the midwives.

He applauded the First Lady’s strong support for maternal health.

  • Niger govt to deploy drones with vaccines to hard-to-reach communities

Niger govt to deploy drones with vaccines to hard-to-reach communities

In its bid to make health more accessible to people in rural areas, the Niger state government has disclosed plans to launch a drone vaccine delivery project to hard-to-reach communities across the state.

The state has over 4000 Hard-to-Reach communities which are usually five kilometres or more from a functional primary healthcare centre.

These centres are usually without any basic amenities, including potable water, electricity, schools, health facilities, good road networks, and even mobile networks.

Niger State Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago disclosed this when the Global Alliance Initiative (GAVI) and UNICEF visited him as part of activities to celebrate the close-out of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

According to the governor, the drone vaccine delivery would leverage technology to bridge the health gap in these communities.

He further said that plans are on the ground by the state government to deploy telemedicine facilities across all primary healthcare centres, provide internet services, and build doctors’ accommodations to house medical personnel within the facilities.

Bago expressed gratitude to partners for supporting the state’s primary healthcare initiative, which received seed money of about N6 million dollars, matched with an additional N1 million dollars by the state government.

He added that the partnership has achieved significant milestones, including the recruitment of 1,500 new health staff, retention of 400 health staff, procurement of medical equipment, and provision of access to quality health services for vulnerable populations.

The Chief of Health, UNICEF, Dr. Shyam Pathak, acknowledged the governor’s achievements and commended the contributions of traditional and religious institutions towards strengthening the primary healthcare system.

Pathak advocated for increased investment, oversight, and improvement in sustaining the project, retaining health workers, maintaining equipment, and sustaining the mechanism of operation of services and data documentation.

The World Health Organization (WHO) representative, Dr. Alex Chimbaru, said that the Governor’s commitment to ensuring the project’s success is commendable, which led to a decrease in maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.

He, however, stated that sustainability is crucial to maintaining the progress made, appealing to the government to ensure investment into the project does not stop.

The state Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Dr. Ibrahim Dangana disclosed that the programme had made tremendous progress in reducing maternal and infant mortalities in the state.

“We have cleared our zero-dose children, who had never been immunized before, from 7,094 to zero,” he said.

  • Wikestitution: A Wike blueprint for young Nigerian leaders

Wikestitution: A Wike blueprint for young Nigerian leaders

    By Dr. Dauda U. Adamu

This article is divided into two major sections: the first focuses on Wike and his accolades, while the second addresses what young Nigerians can learn from his leadership styles. I have realized that Nigerians often overlook the positive contributions of their political leaders, focusing instead on their shortcomings. This tendency can have a discouraging effect on those who strive to make a positive impact. Therefore, I have chosen to adopt a different approach in this article.

All attempts by Arise TV to ridicule Wike culminated when Reuben Abatti asked President Tinubu about sacking his ministers, specifically mentioning Nyesom Wike during the president’s maiden media chat. However, this moment unexpectedly elevated and dignified Wike before the very eyes and ears of Reuben Abatti, much to my excitement. Witnessing this clip allowed me to sleep very peacefully.

The primary reason for writing this article about Wike is to encourage him to continue serving the common people and to empower him to confront the greedy elites who exploit the masses through land grabbing, fraudulent schemes like “Park and Pay,” C of O crimes, and other exploitative practices. Beyond my observations of his actions and words, I was inspired to write this article by the joy I witnessed in the faces of the residents of the FCT.

I have chosen to identify with the Wike style of leadership, regardless of his political affiliation or personal fortunes. Whether he is in power or out of power, whether he is popular or unpopular, his legacy will endure. Wike, a unifying force, demonstrating that collaboration can yield positive outcomes. The wonders of Wike’s leadership will never cease to amaze.

Suppose you suffer from poor infrastructure, inadequate budgeting, and weak administrative governance, I would metaphorically recommend a dose of ‘Wike’ – two times in the morning, two in the afternoon, and two at night. Wike is institution personalized and the term I developed for this is ‘Wikestitution.’ Etymologically, the term is a portmanteau derived from the combination of ‘Wike’ and ‘institution. In countries like Nigeria, where institutional weaknesses and corruption often hinder development, the system of ‘Wikestitution’ becomes relevant for discussion.

Read Also; How to unlock untapped potential in oil industry, by Tinubu

‘Wikestitution’ can be defined as a leadership style characterized by a strong emphasis on individual initiative and a people-centric approach. This style embodies key qualities such as intelligence, open-mindedness, strong will, fearlessness, proactiveness, sound financial management, and the ability to learn from past mistakes. Nyesom Wike exemplifies these qualities through his leadership.

Wike is known for his simplicity, firmness, intelligence, hard work, commitment to quality administration, open-mindedness, sensitivity to diversity, loyalty to the people, and boundless energy. While certain individuals may disagree with his specific policies or approaches, it is crucial to acknowledge his significant contributions to the Nigerian leadership landscape, extending beyond his work in Rivers State. Those who overlook these contributions may lack the data, time, or interest to objectively observe his work firsthand, whether through media reports or personal observation.

Therefore, when analyzing protests directed at individuals like Wike, it is essential to critically examine the underlying motivations. These protests may not necessarily be a direct criticism of the individual, but rather a rejection of the ‘Wikestitution’ approach – the application of personal ability and a genuine love for the people to address issues like land grabbing and political betrayal that often plague governance.

I am concerned about how susceptible intelligent Nigerians are to manipulation by entities such as gossip-driven news content creators, self-serving politicians, and financially motivated activists who exploit the media to express their emotional sentiments rather than engage in constructive dialogue.

President Tinubu has implemented several forward-thinking actions and policies for Nigeria, including removing fuel subsidies, increasing local government autonomy, increasing foreign reserves, and tax reforms, and appointing Bar. Nyensome Wike as the minster of the FCT. Although the removal of fuel subsidies came with hardship, the president gave the governors billions of naira and trucks of rice each to cushion the effects, but many did not hear about it. Tax reform is crucial at this juncture. Nigerians must now decide whether to take control of our nation’s destiny or become reliant on external factors such as China, the IMF, or the World Bank. This pivotal decision hinges on our choice between self-reliance through robust taxation or continued dependence on external borrowing.

All Nigerians, regardless of their region, religion, tribe, or political affiliation, must unite to support the President’s success. Our nation’s success is inextricably linked to the success of its leadership. If the President fails, the entire nation, particularly the most vulnerable members of society, will suffer the consequences. I am actively contributing to this effort by reaching out to rural populations through local radio stations.

This article is about Mr. President’s forward-thinking decision to appoint Wike as the FCT Minister. This may disappoint many, but what you are about to read is positive things about Wike. I understand that not everyone will agree with my assessment of Wike, and I am aware that this may have future implications for me from those who prefer a different narrative. However, I have chosen to take this risk. This is not driven by political or financial motives.

When you search for ‘Wike’ or ‘FCT Minister’ on YouTube, the results primarily consist of videos showcasing the Minister’s project flag-off and commissioning ceremonies. Even YouTube, through these search results, seems to endorse the titles given to the Minister, such as ‘Wike is Working’ and ‘Mr. Project.’ Ultimately, Wike’s greatest joy stems from witnessing the happiness of the people he serves.

Before this, Mr. President described Wike as a man who provided purposeful leadership in a time of trial. Hon Member Abuja South Abdulrahman described Wike as “Wike is working; Wike is balancing.” I want to add one ‘MBATH ‘, meaning, Wike is ’Making Bola Ahmed Tinubu Happy.’ The chairman of Bwari Area Council, Dr. John, refers to Wike as the “embodiment of the Renewed Hope Agenda.’ The Senate president, Godwill Akpabio, once called Wike ‘Governor Emeritus.’

I agree with one of the speakers during the Wike 60th birthday lecture that “followership has to be able to galvanize leadership to action.” I therefore chose to write and celebrate Wike as my way of galvanizing Wike not into action but into ‘further’ actions. When you see hardworking people, stand by them no matter the cost. I do not mind losing anything because I chose to celebrate Wike today, whom I have never met.

During his 60th birthday lecture in Port Harcourt, Wike received great accolades from friends and associates. The FCT Minister of State mentioned that she wishes the Minister a long life so she can continue to learn from him. I agreed with one of the speakers who said, Wike’s ‘heart is in his work, and his work is in his heart.’ As chairman of the occasion for the 60th birthday of Nyesom Wike, OCJ Okocha, described Wike as a ‘superlative performer,’ while Senate President Godswill Akpabio refers to Wike’s activities as the ‘Wike magic.’ The Abaji Chairman once referred to Wike as a source of inspiration. His coming as the FCT minister was described as the ‘Man with an eagle-like coming’ – always leaving a mark.

Okocha made the most exciting and realistic comment about Wike which every person would love to receive: ‘There is nothing good in his hand that he cannot turn into success.’ Okocha further cited a conversation he had with an Okrika woman who said to him about Wike that if she were by the waterside with many boats and inquired about their sailors, she would be ready to enter the one they say is piloted by Wike even if she did not know its destination and mission because she believes the named sailor knows where he is heading to and the mission of the journey.

Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, during the same occasion of Wike’s 60th birthday lecture, says “In Nigeria where leadership is often defined as rhetoric rather than results”, Wike has distinguished himself as, “a beacon of pragmatic action intertwined with visionary foresight.” He describes Wike as “one of most Nigerian courageous, innovative, focused, performance-driven-visionary leaders” and the “cornerstone of infrastructure development.”

Okocha further describes Wike as someone whom many do not understand, while those who cannot perform like him become envious. He emphasizes Wike’s passion for ‘pooling up the weak,’ highlighting his overwhelming generosity and remarkable toughness. Wike, Okocha asserts, is a detribalized Nigerian who believes in exploring innovative solutions to overcome challenges.

The Minister of Justice of the Federation describes Wike as “Mr. Project Plus Plus Plus.” He says that whether you like him or not, Wike is a performer and a crusader of finished projects at the Federal Executive Council, and a lover of taste. Wike makes us have hope. Dr. Kanu Agabi, SAN, a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Government, described Wike as a man who “thinks big, who plans big, and who executes his big plans.” Agabi once stated that it is men like Wike who give people hope. He was very hopeful in Wike and thanked him for the good things he would do going into the future. Even with that, Agabi maintained that Wike cannot be thanked enough. He went further to describe Wike as someone with a vision and who is decisive.

The Indigenous people of the FCT, who have long suffered from neglect and marginalization, have seen a new dawn under Tinubu (president) and Wike (FCT Minister) administrations. Wike was presented with the indigene letter of Kwali Area Council and given the Indigenous name “Shengasa” – meaning “heaven shares opportunity.” Wike is considered a gift to the FCT by God. The kind of institutional system that Wike’s style of leadership represents is what I term “Wikestitution.” I write today to help youth learn from this leadership style.

Wike/Wikestitution: lessons for the Nigerian Youths

A key element of the ‘Wike magic’ in addressing the FCT’s abandoned project syndrome involves a significant shift in budgetary allocation. This entails increasing capital expenditure from 30% to 70% of the budget, simultaneously reducing recurrent spending from 70% to 30%. If people enjoy smoother commutes on good roads in Abuja today, it’s partly due to the positive impact of a revised budgetary allocation. Furthermore, this approach emphasizes linking projects directly to Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and conducting frequent site visits to monitor progress.

As of January 19th, 2025, less than two years after taking office, Minister Wike has already signed over 7000 Certificates of Occupancy for landowners in the FCT, a remarkable achievement considering that previous administrations issued a comparable number over thirteen years. This demonstrates that the ‘Wike’s working’ accolade extends beyond capital projects and encompasses efficient administrative duties. Nigerian youth and future leaders must learn from this.

Criminals do not thrive in environments where Wike is in power. He firmly believes that a true leader must be deeply connected to their constituents. Even while serving as Minister of Education under former President Goodluck Jonathan and residing in the FCT, he visited Rivers State weekly to maintain close ties with his people.

Wike is renowned for his exceptional teamwork. To fulfill President Tinubu’s vision of operationalizing the Abuja Metro line, he effectively collaborated with the CBN, Ministry of Finance, and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, successfully securing $30 million to complete the project. This example serves as a powerful lesson for young people: the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving significant goals. What I want the youths to learn from this is the spirit of teamwork. For the Area Council Chairmen, Governor Wike frequently inquires, ‘In what areas can I provide support?’ This proactive approach has led to significant achievements.

Wike effectively addressed the issue of land-grabbing by investigating the legitimacy of companies claiming to be real estate developers. Wike discovered that many of these companies were not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, confirming their illegal activities. It’s crucial to understand that some protests directed at the FCT administration may not necessarily be a reflection of dissatisfaction with Wike’s leadership, but rather a response to his efforts to curb illegal land-grabbing activities by these unregistered entities

Unfortunately, Nigerians often fail to acknowledge the realities of the “underworld,” and political, religious, or tribal biases can easily sway public perception against individuals who truly act in our best interests. Nigerian youths should cultivate a critical thinking mindset and diligently investigate issues before forming opinions. Wike is not merely an office-bound politician; he is a hands-on leader who actively engages in project monitoring. His dedication to on-site inspections directly resulted in the award of the Kpai road contract.

Wike’s principles include strict adherence to contract terms and building confidence in contractors by ensuring timely and complete payments. Wike effectively ended the ‘variation’ nightmare for contractors. He has zero tolerance for the word ‘variation’ from contractors.  Most of those with whom Wike has issues are not poor people. Think about it. Nigerian youths must understand that this is necessary if they truly want to serve the common people.

Wike dislikes keeping people waiting and dislikes attending occasions late. Nigerian youths must learn to be punctual. Before Wike rose to prominence in Nigeria, Nigerian youths had been indoctrinated with the myth that truth-telling and politics were incompatible. Wike has shattered this myth, forcing the promoters of this falsehood to retreat. Wike boldly speaks his truth and continues to excel in the Nigerian political arena beyond those who merely pretend with their stances.

Wike has provided a new paradigm for addressing protest in Nigeria: dialogue. We have been led to believe that protest or revolution is the only answer to Nigerian problems, but Wike and the Abuja youths have demystified this myth. Towards the October 5th, 2024 protest, the youths of Abuja approached Wike and informed him that they would not participate. Instead, they requested that he empower them. As a promise-keeper, Wike, with the generous approval of Mr. President, allocated N10 billion for the empowerment of the FCT youths. However, he included the caveat that employment programs must be practically utilized, rather than simply attending conferences. It is now left for the Abuja youths to prove they have what it takes to be empowered.

Wike gets rid of the bad eggs that work against the interests of the people and the administration’s desire for people-oriented projects. Wike changed several directors of land for going against the people. He is always happy whenever he goes to the rural areas. He believes that leadership demands sacrifice and the ability to galvanize others. He describes himself as a realist.

The only thing that reminds many rural dwellers in Nigeria of the government’s presence is one or two government employees living in their community. Wike changed this perspective and narrative. He introduced a system where rural dwellers are reminded of the existence of government not necessarily through a few staff in the communities whom they see riding their bikes or walking to work every day, but through projects.

Wike’s “flag off” ceremonies serve a dual purpose: to ensure the reality of the road project and to verify the contractor’s capability by sending someone to inspect their equipment. He boycotts presumed conspirators. Wike believes that politics is a covenant between those elected and those who elected them. Accountability is the watchword. Wike believes that uncompleted projects will make people hate the government.

Wike like dancing and singing but only on two occasions—after attaining a victory or accomplishing a job for the masses. So, if you want to see Wike dance, attend his Thanksgiving service or his project commission events and maybe political rallies.  Wike has fostered job creation in the FCT, including opportunities for YouTubers in Abuja. These content creators showcase the city’s beauty and generate income through monetized channels. May God bless you Wike and keep you be the power of His name! Amen!

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has condemned the recent arrest and subsequent release of Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), by officers of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit.

Executive Director, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, in a statement released on Monday, described the incident as a clear case of “corruption fighting back.”

Rafsanjani warned that such developments undermined the country’s collective anti-corruption efforts and eroded public trust, urging the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun, to resist political manipulations.

“The Inspector General of Police must not allow his office to be used by desperate politicians to undermine anti-corruption efforts or shield powerful individuals from legitimate investigations. Actions like these not only tarnish the reputation of the police force but also erode public confidence in the impartiality of state institutions,” said Rafsanjani.

According to the CISLAC boss, the attack on the Kano PCACC boss appeared to be connected to the commission’s ongoing investigations into a high-profile case involving properties allegedly linked to a prominent national figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Rimingado was reportedly detained on Friday evening over the seizure of properties believed to be proceeds of crime.

The investigation and prosecution of the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company were carried out by the Kano Anti-Graft Agency in accordance with its enabling law and a court order.

Rimingado was released on bail later that night but was asked to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday for further questioning.

But the police denied arresting Rimingado, insisting that he was only invited over a petition against him.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement Monday evening said his invitation on Friday was in line with standard investigative protocols, adding that he was invited to engage with police officials as part of due process in addressing the matter.

“Given his role as a public servant and a respected individual within society, it is expected of Mr Muhuyi to cooperate with the police to ensure a proper investigation is carried out, rather than seeking to create media attention.

“Any assertions indicating that Mr Magaji was arrested are unfounded and misleading. We urge the media and general public to avoid disseminating misinformation that may cause unnecessary alarm or confusion.

“The Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law and following due process in all investigations,” said Adejobi.

    Ganduje receives decampees in Katsina

The National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has received no fewer than 40,000 decampees from various political parties in Katsina State.

Ganduje received the defectors at Ingawa Local Government Area (LGA) yesterday, during the inauguration of  the APC campaign for the council elections scheduled for February 15.

According to the APC national chairman, the new entrants included thousands of the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

He added that one of the decampees was Alhaji Rabiu Gambo, a former PDP state chairman, who was also its Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 General Elections.

According to Ganduje, the return of the other political parties’ members to the APC is an indication that the party is the only honest,  with a transparent leadership in the country.

He told the decampees that they were equal members of the party, promising that they would be treated like the old members in terms of party activities and leadership.

Ganduje assured them to feel at home as they were bonafide members of the party, vowing,”any opportunity given to the old members, they are also entitled to it.”

He called on the members of the party and the people of the state to come out en masse during the election to vote for APC candidates across the 34 LGAs of the state.

Governor Dikko Radda, while appreciating the decampees, assured them of the cooperation towards moving the state forward.

Radda said it was a great success by the party to receive such a large number of the members of the other political parties into the APC, saying that the party was not afraid of election at any time.

He expressed confidence that in the forthcoming local government election, the party would win all the positions, assuring President Bola Tinubu that Katsina was an APC state, and it would continue to be so.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highlight of the event was the presentation of the APC flags to all the chairmanship candidates of the party in the 24 LGAs of the state.

Speaking at the burial of his immediate traditional ruler yesterday in Mbaede, Vandeikya Local Government Area, Alia stated: “For now, I am the only governor of Benue State,” in an apparent response to those attempting to undermine his authority.

“In Vandeikya, which is my local government area, come and declare yourself governor, unless I did not hear, he repeats himself, ‘unless I did not hear  (there was general laughter from the crowd)’.”

The governor called on the people to embrace peace and live in harmony with one another and warned politicians with destructive tendencies to stay away from the stage as there is no room for crisis.

He stated that as governor, he would continue to support the people to return to farming, providing incentives such as farm inputs and seedlings to farmers.

According to him, the people of Benue have suffered enough at the hands of wrong politicians, saying that it is time to move forward through quality leadership and programs that empower the people to be self-reliant.

He described the late monarch as a peaceful man who loved his subjects and prayed for God to grant his soul eternal rest.

World Bank, Yobe govt. disburse $2.5m to 101 communities

World Bank-financed project, Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) and Yobe State Government have disbursed $2.525million as revolving fund to 101 communities in the state to boost agricultural development.

Governor Mai Mala Buni made this known during the presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries in Damaturu at the weekend.

Buni said the fund was aimed at driving growth, improving livelihood, and promoting sustainable development among communities and farmer groups.

“This occasion is another milestone achieved by the state government, by supporting 101 communities with a Community Revolving Fund (CRF) loan of two million, five hundred and twenty-five thousand US Dollars ($2,525,000),” he said.

The governor said 4,825 out of the total 7,340 slots had been allocated to youths, to ensure their maximum engagement and benefit from the programme.

He urged the beneficiaries to take full ownership of the programme, and repay the loan promptly, to ensure its sustainability.

ACReSAL National Coordinator, Mr Abdul Umar, commended the state government for providing an enabling environment for the project to thrive in the state.

Umar said the people of Yobe had not only accepted the project, but also had a complete understanding and had keyed into the project.

He also identified ACReSAL staff strength, dedication, and team spirit as another factor for the success of the project in the state.

Earlier, ACReSAL Project Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Shehu Mohammed, said the revolving fund was not a grant, but an investment loan, aimed at revitalising agricultural practices.

Mohammed said that Yobe was among eight pilot states selected by the World Bank, for the implementation of the Community Revolving Fund scheme.
