    Osun election: Atiku congratulates Adeleke, people of Osun

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the winner of Osun governorship election, Sen Ademola Adeleke.

    Abubakar in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, described Adeleke’s victory in the election as a well-fought victory.

    He also congratulated the PDP family and all stakeholders who came together to make the victory possible.

    Abubakar also congratulated the people of Osun for proving that power truly belonged to the people.

    “I have always had affection for the people of Osun for obvious reasons. Yes, my wife hails from there, but if you have to walk a difficult path and you need men and women of courage and astute valour, the people of Osun will never be a disappointment.”

    Abubakar said that it would be on record that Osun had provided the compass into that brighter future that awaited Nigeria at the horizon.

    He said the referendum on 2023 general elections had commenced with the verdict of the people of Osun in electing Adeleke, saying we know that the 2023 general election would be a full referendum.

    “The ship of hope is already at the harbour under the umbrella of the PDP. We shall intensify the work to ensure that we uproot all vestiges of bad governance and false hopes toward the 2023 election.

    “The Imole (light) that has started to shine from Osun shall soon have a national coverage.

    “One more good thing about the victory in Osun is that it has provided a catalyst for the PDP to see the opportunity when the party works together in unity.

    “The work to bring the PDP together is a work in progress and the good news is that we are steadily making progress.

    As you wake up the morning after (Sunday, July 17), you may be assured that you are doing so with the illumination that has come to Osun.”

    Abubakar said that the march to reclaim Nigeria’s greatness had begun and it shall not stop until the party achieved the goal of one people, one future and one country.

    I accept my election as Osun governor, says Adeleke

    Sen. Ademola Adeleke, says he has accepted his election as Osun state governor.

    In his acceptance speech on Sunday in Ede, Adeleke said he was overwhelmed by the love and support of the electorate.

     He pledged his total commitment to the best interest of the people and the state, saying that: “I give praise and adoration to Almighty.

    “I praise the courage and determination of the good people of Osun state. I commend men and women of goodwill, the young and the old.

    “I am overwhelmed by your love and support.

    “Our state has turned a new page. We have launched a landmark path for progress and prosperity of our people.

    “It is therefore with strong faith in God and trust in our people that I accept my election as the Governor of Osun state.

     “I pledge my total commitment to the best interest of the state and the people.

    “I dedicate this victory to my late brother, His Execllency,  Sen. Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, and every indigene of Osun state, and to all my supporters and friends”.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Adeleke as the winner of the Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

    Announcing the results, INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe said Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closet rival, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored  375,027 votes.

    NAN also reports that the PDP won in 17 local government areas while APC won 13.

    The 13 LGAs won by APC are Ilesa East; Ayedaade, Boripe, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Boripe, Ola-Oluwa, Iwo, Isokan, Irewole, Atakumosa East and Ife East.

    While the PDP won in Boluwaduro; Osogbo, Ila, Atakumosa West, Ifelodun, Ilesa West, Odo-Otin, Obokun, Orolu, Olorunda, Ife North, Irepodun, Oriade, Ede South, Ejigbo, Ede North and Egbedore LGAs.

    In his reaction to Adeleke’s victory, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, said his feelings for Adeleke’s victory could not be expressed in words.

    Lawal, while speaking with newsmen in his palace in Ede, commended the people of the state for their support for the governor-elect.

    “My feelings cannot be expressed because it happened so sudden but we thank God for the victory.

    “I am happy because our son is now the governor-elect and we thank God for that,” he said.

    The traditional ruler, however, described Adeleke’s victory as a victory for the whole state and not for Ede alone, adding that, “it is a victory for the whole people of Osun because he had a wide spread of votes across the state.

    “It is not only votes from Ede alone that gave him the victory but the synergy between the people of the state that brought him to power”.

    Meanwhile, hundreds of jubulating residents of Ede trooped to the streets in the town singing and dancing in celebration of Adeleke’s victory.

    A correspondent of NAN who visited the town reports that the jubilants on motorcycles and open roof vehicles moved around the town singing in celebration.

     

    Hundreds of people in jubilant mood also beseiged Adeleke’s residence and the palace of the community leader to celebrate the victory.

    Gov Oyetola reacts to PDP’s victory

    Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has urged his supporters to be calm following the emergence of candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Senator Ademola Adeleke as Governor-elect.

    Oyetola said he has taken cognisance of the results of the governorship election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

    A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Oyetola, Ismail Omipidan, noted the party would be responding appropriately after studying the results and consulting with critical stakeholders of the party.

    He called on his supporters to remain calm, and the people of the State to go about their businesses without let or hindrance.

    The Governor also called on security operatives to ensure maintenance of law and order.

    He directed security operatives to take adequate charge to prevent break down of law and order.

    Jubilation erupts in Ikire over Adeleke’s victory

    Scores of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters stormed major streets in Ikire town on Sunday to celebrate the victory of the party’s governorship candidate Senator Ademola Adeleke.

    Adeleke was defeated in the town with 4,022 votes but his fortunes in other local governments fetched him victory.

    The Osun West senatorial candidate of the party Akogun Lere Oyewunmi hails from the town.

    Scores of his supporters took to the streets Sunday morning in a convoy of cars over the victory and waving PDP flag.

    The town has been generally calm and the election was peaceful.

    Buhari congratulates Osun Governor-elect Adeleke

    President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the just- concluded Osun governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, over his election.

    In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, Buhari noted the outcome of the election had expressed their choice of whom they want to lead them.

    The President further noted the successful conduct of the election was a testimonial to the maturity and commitment of all stakeholders.

    “President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), following victory of the party in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Osun State.

    “With the election over, the President expresses conviction that the people of Osun have expressed their will through the ballot, and the will of the people must always matter and be respected in a democracy.

    “President Buhari notes that the successful conduct of the election is a further testimony to the maturity and commitment of all stakeholders – the electoral body, security agencies, political parties, the media, civil society and the electorate- to further strengthen the integrity of the electoral process in the country.

    “The President reassures the nation that the commitment of this administration towards having credible elections remains unshaken,”, the statement reads.

    Makinde congratulates Adeleke, hails Osun voters

    Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory at the just-concluded Osun State governorship election.

    He said the power of the people has triumphed again.

    According to him, Adeleke’s victory was similar to what happened in Oyo State during the 2019 governorship election when the people exercised their franchise in support of an opposition party.

    Makinde, who hailed the teeming voters across the 30 local governments of Osun State for standing by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and staying resolute to ensure that their votes counted, said: “it’s great to have a second PDP flag flying in the South-West.”

    In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, Makinde also auded Adeleke, PDP members and Osun state voters for remaining strong and unwavering throughout the electioneering period.

    “It is great to have a second PDP flag flying in the Southwest and this victory teaches all politicians an important lesson- that truly, power resides with the people.

    “The power of the people will continue to triumph, the earlier politicians realise this fact, the better for our democracy.”

    Adeleke’s win a good omen for PDP – Melaye

    Senator Dino Melaye has congratulated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Ademola Adeleke on his victory at the just-concluded Osun governorship election.

    Melaye, in a statement in Abuja, said Adeleke’s victory was well-deserved.

    He, however, urged the former lawmaker to be magnanimous in victory in the interest of the people of the State and as well justify the confidence reposed in him by way of his election.

    Melaye, who was a two-time member of the National Assembly, also rejoiced with the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, for the Osun victory, saying it was good omen for the party.

    According to the former Kogi West lawmaker: “This is a good omen for our party and signs of things to come in 2023.

    “The victory of our party in Osun State is an indication of the confidence of ordinary Nigerians in the ability of PDP to change the narrative and deliver good governance to all.”

    Melaye also felicitated the people of Osun State for the smooth conduct of the election.

    He noted that the people of Osun State are the real winners as they have been able to freely choose their leader for the next four years.

    Osun 2022: Osun people have spoken says Ayu

    The National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Iyorcha Ayu has congratulated the party’s candidate in Osun governorship election, Sen. Ademola Adeleke on his victory, saying the people of Osun has spoken.

    Ayu said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, saying that the victory was attained in spite of numerous attempts by the State Government to frustrate the party.

    “We had to use the party’s state secretariat. As it were, we couldn’t have access to the stadium, but we had access to the people’s hearts, loyalty and votes.

    “The convincing win of 403, 371 against Oyetola’s 375, 027 is ample proof of that.

    “Today is, therefore, not just a day of double restoration – it’s a day of redemption too. It restores PDP to power and redeems the Osun people.

    “I congratulate the two-time winner, the tenacious Adeleke. I congratulate the good people and residents of Osun. I hail every party stakeholder who stood with us in action, prayers and hope,” he said.

    Ayu added:“You have kept faith with the PDP. You refused to be intimidated. You refused to be bought over with foodstuffs and 30 silver coins. You said no to thuggery and vote-fraud. You have done well.”

    He said that Osun election was a referendum and a prove that Nigerians wanted PDP back.

    “Indeed, PDP is coming,” he said.

    He saluted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security agencies for toeing the path of neutrality and ensuring that the votes counted.

    “The task before us now is to transit from opposition to governance . This we shall do.

    “With Osun done, next villa!

    “We call on all PDP members and all Nigerians to join the moving PDP train. Don’t be left behind. Our next destination is Aso villa.

    “With PDP,” Nigeria shall rise again. Indeed, she is already rising. Osun people have spoken. The rest of Nigeria shall speak with a resounding voice on  Feb. 25, 2023,” he said.

    Ayu lauded the PDP National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election, headed by Gov. Duoye Diri, for a superlative performance.

    He also thanked the party Vice Presidential Candidate Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa for his tireless efforts.

    “The PDP is proud of all of you.

    “You have helped to return PDP to power after 12 years. You have returned hope to Osun,” he said. (NAN)
