Obi’s comment on Yahoo Yahoo boys reckless, disappointing- Lagos APC

The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the remarks by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys, as “geniuses” who need redirection.

In a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the party described Obi’s statement as “morally reprehensible” and unbecoming of someone who once sought to lead Nigeria.

Oladejo said Obi’s comment was “disappointing and dangerous,” arguing that it trivialised a serious crime in a country already struggling to restore moral values.

“There’s nothing genius about crime. Yahoo Yahoo is a social tragedy, not a talent.
“We are genuinely worried about Mr. Obi’s state of mind – one that glorifies fraudulent practices while condemning corruption and dishonesty in the same breath. Such contradiction exposes a profound moral confusion that has no place in leadership.”

The Lagos APC spokesperson accused Obi of seeking political relevance through “reckless speech” and said his “so-called compassion for fraudsters” was misplaced.

“His desperation for attention has replaced reasoned leadership with reckless speech. There should be a limit to unbridled desperation,” Oladejo said.

He further alleged that Obi misled Nigerian youths during the 2023 elections “through propaganda, misinformation, and emotional manipulation,” and urged him to stop making statements that could weaken moral discipline among young people.

“He exploited their hopes, fed their frustrations, and built a campaign on deceit and social media hysteria. The least he can do now is to retain some modicum of respect by refraining from further embarrassing statements that insult the intelligence of the same young people he deceived.
“True leadership demands responsibility, not recklessness; moral strength, not moral confusion,” he stated.

Oladejo added that while the APC supports youth empowerment and innovation, it would never endorse or romanticise cybercrime.

“Internet fraud is not genius; it is theft, deceit, and moral failure.

“Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigerian youths are being equipped with real opportunities through initiatives such as the 3MTT (Three Million Technical Talent Programme), NELFUND, and digital innovation programmes that provide legitimate avenues for success,” he said.

The party concluded by emphasising that leadership should be rooted in integrity, not populism.

“Leadership is about values, not vibes; about integrity, not impulsiveness. Mr. Obi’s latest outburst is a tragic reminder that populism without principle is a danger to democracy,” the statement read.

Obi had made the remarks on Saturday during a youth conference in Onitsha themed “Money Beyond Wealth.”

“I reminded our young people that while money is important, it is only a fragment of true wealth, which rests on integrity, character, and purpose. Real wealth uplifts both the individual and society, promotes education, reduces poverty, and creates opportunities for others to live dignified lives.

“I told the youths that some of our so-called Yahoo boys are geniuses who need redirection, not condemnation. Their creativity and courage, if properly guided, can drive innovation and national development. Our challenge is to channel their energy from deception to productive enterprise.

“I also stressed that the reckless pursuit of money destroys both character and community. Leadership must lead by example, for a nation that rewards dishonesty cannot build integrity.
“I urged our youths to rediscover the dignity of labour and embrace hard work and innovation. Nations are built not by miracles but by men and women who think, work, and build,” Obi said.

Delta APC endorses Tinubu, Oborevwori for 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing them as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement took place  during a well-attended APC Stakeholders Meeting at the State Banquet Hall in Asaba, the state capital.

The meeting gathered influential party leaders, current and former lawmakers, and key political figures from Delta’s three senatorial districts.

The motion for the vote of confidence was introduced by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, and seconded former Delta Speaker Victor Ochei.

Keyamo praised  Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting his “bold reforms and transformative leadership” and specifically mentioning the removal of fuel subsidy as a prudent decision that has redirected significant funds toward critical national infrastructure projects.

Keyamo pointed out recent developments, including the President’s approval of $1 billion for the revival of the Warri port and other major projects like the Lagos/Calabar coastal road and enhancements to Lagos Airport—outcomes attributed to the savings gained from subsidy removal.

He described Tinubu as a “prudent manager and visionary leader.”

Keyamo noted Governor Oborevwori’s contributions to substantial infrastructural development within Delta State and reinforced his call for the party’s endorsement of both leaders for the 2027;elections.

He said the passing of this motion reflected a strong unity within the APC in Delta State in support of their leadership.

He also commended Governor  Oborevwori for his visionary leadership and for the massive infrastructural development across Delta State.

He moved that “the Delta APC pass a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and adopt them as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general election.”

Seconding the motion, which was unanimously adopted, Ochei hailed Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori’s inclusive governance and developmental impact across Nigeria and Delta State,  respectively.

The Governor commended President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as “a man who rewards loyalty, commitment, and results.”

“In 2027, our votes will be our report card. Those who claim to love the President must show it through the ballot. I won 21 out of 25 local governments in the last election because we worked and stayed loyal. That’s what real commitment means,” Oborevwori said.

The Governor warned against disloyalty within the party, stressing that some members who did not work for APC during the last elections had benefited unduly.

“Some in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them. When the time comes, we will expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded, not hypocrisy,” he declared.

He emphasised unity and collective decision-making, urging leaders to put the interest of the party above personal ambitions.

On governance, the Governor highlighted ongoing infrastructural projects across Delta State — including the ₦59 billion Uromi Junction flyover project, the ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover, and the coming Tuesday groundbreaking of Warri/Sapele Road rehabilitation.

“This is the only state where contractors are not owed. We pay 40% mobilization upfront. That’s because we are managing resources efficiently, and the President’s reforms are yielding results,” Oborevwori said.

Immediate past Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, expressed delight at the gathering, describing the April 28, 2025 mass defection into the APC as “a turning point in the state’s political history.”

“Today, I can confidently say that joining the APC was the right step in the right direction. The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa said.

He praised Tinubu’s economic decisions as “bold and necessary,” urging leaders to enlighten their constituents on the long-term benefits of current reforms.

Okowa commended Oborevwori for uniting the party, saying his humility and inclusive leadership had strengthened Delta APC across all senatorial districts.

  • Nigeria needs state police for better security response -Deputy Speaker Kalu

Nigeria needs state police for better security response -Deputy Speaker Kalu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Okezie Kalu has said Nigeria can no longer delay the creation of state police if it hopes to tackle its security challenges effectively.

Kalu, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on his return from Geneva, Switzerland, where he attended the 55th Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organization/Inter-Parliamentary Union (WTO-IPU) Public Forum 2025.

He said Nigeria’s centralised policing structure was inadequate and far behind global standards.

Earlier hosted by Nigerian Students at Harvard Kennedy School in Massachusetts, United States, Kalu said the only way this can be achieved is to unbundle it from its current structure.

He said: “On the State Police bill that is before the parliament, we are thinking about the response time of policing in Nigeria which at the moment is below the global standard. The only way we can achieve this is if we unbundle it from the way it is centralized like what other countries are doing: Municipal police, State Police. And just the constitution is clear on what is on the concurrent and exclusive lists.

“Certain subject matters will now be handled by the State Police and Federal Police respectively if we set it up and break it down the way Nigerians want it and that’s why we are calling for the national public hearing on Monday. Let’s have this conversation on issues like this to know whether you want it or not, or should it be tailored in one way or the other. There may be fears of hijacking it but we cannot because of that deny the majority of Nigerians the security of lives and property that we promised them as a government.

“So, we should be looking at the bigger picture. Everyone in Nigeria may not be a politician but everyone needs security of lives and property. So, we are saying which one should we go for? The greater good or the fear of the minor threat? . I think we should go for the greater good so that the good in the majority will suppress the threat in the minority.”

Kalu said Nigerians demonstrated rare patriotism and resilience by standing with President Bola Tinubu in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal and other bold economic reforms, stressing that the difficult decisions were necessary to put the country on the path of sustainable growth.

He said the Nigerians in diaspora showed keen interest in the government’s reforms and in issues of representation.

“The engagement was to have an appraisal of what we are doing, bring them up to speed with what the government is doing in regards to reforms. How far the reforms have fared and where we are headed. You and I know that Nigeria needed this reform. There’s no two ways about it.

“We needed a leader with courage, a leader with boldness to be able to take the steps the President has taken. Some of us who are in the same administration with him, though we’re in the other arm of government, we are standing fully with him on this reform. Removing subsidy launched us into an era of seeing things the way they are, feeling the pain, and then adjusting so that we can enjoy better later on.

“And many may have thought we were going into recession and the rest of them. But we weathered the storm, and I want to thank Nigerians. As Nigerians, we are very resilient. And we were able to stand with him. Today, the dynamics have changed.”

On the clamouring for diaspora voting, the Deputy Speaker reiterated his long-standing support but cautioned that Nigeria must first strengthen its local electoral system.

“Rome was not built in a day. It will happen, but we must first put our house in order. If Nigerians say during constitutional amendment hearings that they want it, we will look at the possibility,” he explained.

Kalu also shed light on his intervention in the crisis involving local contractors, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, who threatened strike action over unpaid fees.

He said the approach of “legislative diplomacy” helped to calm tensions and secure commitments from government agencies.

“Though we are three arms of government, we are one government. The objective of the President is our objective too. We will not allow the executive to fail and then stand aside. That is not how to drive an emerging democracy,” he said.

PRP merges with APC ahead of Anambra bye-elections

A day before the Senatorial and House of Assembly bye-elections in Anambra State, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has collapsed its structure into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the party’s state executive meeting held Thursday in Awka, with all 21 local government chairmen present, PRP state chairman, Chief Aninwachikwu Mathias, said the decision was based on the belief that only the APC could lead the state to the “promised land.”

He cited the rising cases of killings, kidnappings, and other crimes in the state as a major concern, revealing that some chairmen from other political parties had also indicated interest in joining the APC.

The PRP leadership further declared support for APC’s governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Speaking on behalf of Ukachukwu, Hon. Tony Ezekwelu, a former Anambra State House of Assembly member and ex-Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth leader, described the move as “awesome” and lauded PRP members as wise for their unanimous decision.

Our politics must shift focus from political gladiators to ordinary citizens – APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amb. Abayomi Mumuni has called on politicians and party stakeholders to shift their focus to political gladiators who are busy scheming distractions to ordinary citizens in the country.

Mumuni made the call against the backdrop of a coalition of different political actors as the 2027 general election approaches.

The political actors have vowed to wrest power from the incumbent President Bola Tinubu, come the general elections.

Noting that Nigerian politics must evolve and consider more the ordinary citizens in the country, Mumuni, a former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), noted that, “the harsh reality is while politicians engage in grandstanding, poor citizens continue to suffer, watching false promises unfold with each election cycle.”

He urged President Tinubu to remain focused on his campaign promises and not to be totally distracted by the unfolding political tricks.

He said, “Many families are still struggling to put food on the table amidst crippling hardships and a legacy of broken systems left by the previous governments.

He emphasised that the gathering of “deceitful politicians” brings no real solutions to the masses.

According to Mumuni, citizens still suffer the dire consequences of the neglect and greed of many actors in the coalition, and it will not be forgotten so soon.

“The souls of those who died from hunger and despair may well haunt the wicked leaders in their reckoning. Accountability will come, whether in this life or the next,” he added.

Mumuni, who is also a renowned author and security luminary, said more efforts should be made to strengthen Nigeria’s economy, noting that the positive impacts must be felt by people at the grassroots.

He commended the strides of the government so far on security, calling for the onslaughts against criminal elements to be sustained.

  • APC dismisses Jigawa Gov’s alleged N1.8bn luxury car purchase

APC dismisses Jigawa Gov’s alleged N1.8bn luxury car purchase

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has dismissed a viral report alleging Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi procured a N1.8 billion luxury car for himself.

The party said the Governor did not buy any luxury car but has been committed to development of the state since assumption of office two years ago.

A statement by Jigawa APC Publicity Secretary in Bashir Kundo in Dutse, the capital city of the state said the report was to tarnish the image of Namadi.

It reads: “Ordinarily, we ought not to have responded to this misleading information if not for the sake of stating the facts and disabusing the minds of some gullible readers who might have misconceived the discredited publication.

“The publication was meant to distract the ongoing historic developmental projects undertaken by the People’s Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi.

“We believe that the purveyors of fake news and their merchant deliberately concocted and spread false information claiming that Governor Umar Namadi had awarded a contract for the purchase of 12 SUVs and took delivery of other luxury vehicles parked at the Government House for his official convoy.

“The publication falsely claimed that Jigawa generated only N6.9 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the first half of 2025. These are false claims and outright ignorance on the part of the informants, with a sinister motive and unprofessionalism for the so-called online platform peddling the falsehood.

“We like to put the record correct and clear that the state generated over N23.8 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the previous six months from January to June this year, not N6.9 billion as claimed by the false report.

“The report deliberately misinformed its readers by reporting in assumption that visitors’ vehicles parked in the premises of the Government House are newly acquired convoy vehicles for the governor. While it is legal for the Governor to acquire convoy vehicles, Governor Namadi is still using old vehicles used by his predecessor”.

APC maintained that the procurement law states how a contract can be awarded, a state being governed by finance expert cannot award a contract to a cabinet member or any individual entity unqualified by the law.

He added Namadi is squarely at home with integrity and trust of his people after initiating remarkable achievements in just two years.
