  • Red lipstick tips for Valentines Day

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to start preparing the ultimate night or day makeup. While classic reds might be an obvious choice, one wonders why red lipstick never seems to go out of fashion; the fact is that it is a universal classic and has yet to go out of style. Many women assume they cannot pull it off but they are wrong. Here are some tips to follow.

1-The secret lies in the rest of your face – the paler your skin, the bigger the pop. You should go light on the eyes and blush; otherwise, you will risk looking like a clown. You can skip the eyeliner and make do with only mascara and make sure to apply to bottom lashes, this opens up your eyes. Dust your face with powder and cheeks with a soft blush

2- Line inside of the lips – the lipstick tends to bleed, so fill in the lips with the lip liner first before any other thing.

3- Pick the right colour – if you are light-skinned, you will look better in plum shades, darker girls would be flattered by warmer reds that have a brown base.

4- Do not let nails clash – contrary to what you might think, it is better to go for

non-red nail polish when going on red lipstick. A clear and light polish is cool and dark polish is a trend that will not go away anytime soon. If you really want to go with the red polish, then make sure the colour matches your lips.

5 – Blend it well – you do not have to stick to one shade of red, try to blend and create the perfect hues. If you buy a red lipstick shade that is too bright or dark, do not dispose it, instead, experiment with other lipstick shades that you have to create the perfect shade of red.

6 – Do it light if you are older – the lips get thinner as we age and dark lips accentuate them. To prevent your lips from looking too stern, try a rosy red lipstick shade or you can avoid the red lips altogether and opt for a neutral shade then go ahead and play up your eyes.

  • Give your look an instant dash

One way to stand out and be unique is to be a fashion accessories collector.

Collect as much as possible fashion accessories or items that you can lay your hands on. This way you can mix and match effectively at any point in time.

    Stick with classic cuts

Go for fashion pieces that are well structured.

Splurge on your blazers or jacket

Good blazers do not go out of style. They are ever trendy classics.

Know the power of an oversized bag

It’s fashionable to carry just one big bag that will contain all your necessity and fits your lifestyle.

    • Neutral

Neutral pieces are wardrobe staple any time, any day. With neutral pieces, you can mix and match effectively.

Wear the dress; don’t let the dress wear you.

The black dress (LBD) gets edgy when paired with cool leather pumps and handbags, silver chains (bangles) and earrings.

Classic cocktail ring will also give your look an instant dash!

  • Costa blasts Hernandez’s clothes with a fire extinguisher

It is not hard to imagine Diego Costa causing mayhem on the training ground and that is exactly what he did after Atletico Madrid’s session on Tuesday.

The striker is currently recuperating from surgery on his left foot and is expected to be out until February but that did not prevent him from scheming against teammate Lucas Hernandez.

As Hernandez looked to be showering after training, Costa laid out his colleague’s clothes in the car park before spraying them with a fire extinguisher and covering them in white powder.

Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis shared a video of the 30-year-old carrying out the hilarious prank and uploaded it to Instagram.

Hernandez walked out of the changing room in just his underwear and looked shocked before seeing the funny side.

Luis posted the video with the caption: ‘They fight like brothers.’

Hernandez would soon have his revenge though as he grabbed the extinguisher for himself before blasting Costa’s parked car while the forward watched on from a grassy area to the side of the car park.

Hernandez posted the video online with the caption: ‘Welcome to the new series of “Pimp My Ride”.

Costa proved he has lost none of his mischievousness since leaving Chelsea for a return to Spain in 2017 by playing a hilarious prank on his brother earlier this month.

The striker let off a series of small fireworks just inches away from Jair Da Costa, who woke with a shock.

As his sibling slept with his back to the camera, Costa snuck up and placed a bowl next to his head. Seconds later, a series of loud bangs and flashes erupt from the bowl, startling Da Costa Silva, who wakes up immediately.

Costa had initially been prescribed rest to solve the ongoing pain in his foot, but his performances suffered and he went on a run of 18 games without scoring.

Up until the operation, Costa had struggled in La Liga for Atletico Madrid, managing to accumulate more yellow cards than goals.

  • Symphony of trendy bags

Women who are fashionable know that handbags of different sizes and colours are a must-have.  You can’t just afford not to have more than one in your wardrobe. Of course, it’s not too early to rock the season’s trendy handbags. From stylish clutch purse to improved crossbody; and structured box bags to tassel/fringe in large numbers,

The Fashion and Designers Weeks, interestingly, gave a preview into this new season’s handbag with the Creative Director of The Potters Signature (TPS) and a daughter to the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Princess Debo Oduntola.

TPS Luxury is a company that produces luxury items made with ankara, leather, embellishments with amazing creativity and an eye for details.

“Fashion-wise, 2018 was a wonderful and great year in the handbags manufacturing industry; and this year (2019) collections are timeless; they are mostly pearls handles. There will also be symphonies of leathers on some of the collections (entirely new designs that have never been produced before anywhere in the world). When I mean symphonies of leathers, it means that we are going to have combinations of some snake skins with some crocodile and ostrich on one particular product,” she said.

Is it going to be another year of big or small size handbags?

It’s a year of not too big, not too small. 2019 is going to be a year of medium size bags but you know some people do just want to carry a big bag. So, some of the small bags will also have big size collections. Clutch bags will get more beaded because the hand beaded bags are timeless and a luxury. This is because it takes a lot of work, much of detailing and a lot of attention. Its needle, thread and taking the bead one by one. So with beading, you can’t go wrong. They are timeless.

These and more are the bag trends fashion women will be obsessed with over this season, get ready to be trendy!

  • ‘My first time on runway was nerve-racking’

Bukola Ogunniyi is a model and popular for her extraordinary 6.2 feet height and carriage on the runway. An orphan who despite the challenges of life, studied accounting at the Yaba College of technology, she has walked the runway for some of the best designers in the fashion industry within her short time in the modelling industry. In this interview with Kehinde Oluleye, she speaks about her passion for the modelling industry and more.

Your carriage and height at last year’s GTBFDW was amazing. How did the journey begin?

I wanted to be a model when I was young but I didn’t have people to put me through. But people used to stop and ask if I was a model or basketballer while growing-up. It eventually started when l was in Yaba College of Technology; a friend sent casting information to me and I went for audition and the rest, as they say, is history.  I was tutored and started as a professional.

You must have got a number of nicknames due to your unusual height?

(Laughs) Yes. Sky -scrapper, iroko, iginla, Agali, gogoro, and so on, made me feel dejected though. Thanks to God and my mummy who always told me, ” don’t you know you are specially created? So they will talk and call you names.” She said I should be happy because I am different.

Any challenge and how have you been able to overcome them?

Going for casting it is quite a challenge. You know, it is not always easy getting a modelling job in Nigeria. They call you for casting, when they already have those they want to give the job in mind.  But when you are up there, they would want to be identified with you. And sometimes they will postpone casting without getting in touch with the models and more. We work in an environment where models who decide not to speak up are participating in that same system of oppression that is harming other people because it doesn’t affect them directly.  I put my God first and everything else falls into place. But thank God, things are changing now.

There are a thousand models out there; the competition is very high. So, what makes you unique?

My height – 6.2ft – and carriage on the runway.

What message do you have for the young models out there?

Never give up, believe in your dream, forge ahead and just have faith in yourself. Don’t let people push you down; you have to be confident in your person for people to believe in you.

What was your first time on the runway like?

It was nerve-racking! It happened at the Lagos Bridal Fashion Week.

Which of the fashion designers do you enjoy working with?

Jewel by Lisa. Her designs are out of this world! So fine and classy!

To a layman, all models are the same. So, what is the thin line between a runway model, commercial and editorial models?

The editorial models have their pictures used for the cover page of magazines and newspapers; for commercial models, their photo-shoots are used for billboards, radio, television and social media for advertisement; while  the runway models rock the fashion designers outfits or products on the runway.

    What motivates you?

I get inspired seeing young people who have done so much and are excelling in their chosen fields.

What is your area of specialisation?

I do all; runway, commercial and editorial.

    How do you keep fit?

    Exercises and volley balling.

    How do you relax?

Just being around loved ones is incredibly relaxing for me.

Which labels do you like to wear?

I am not a label freak; I wear anything from high street to whatever. I am not crazy on label. Once it looks good on me, I go for it.

    What is style to you?

Style, for me, is keeping it simple. I don’t believe in wearing too much jewellery or make-up. I just know where to draw the line; simple clothing and accessories, and then you look cool.

    My style

I like to keep it simple still; I keep my dressing simple but stylish.

    What determines what you wear?

The weather or occasion directs my wears. And I must feel good with whatever l am putting on, otherwise there is no point putting on a particular dress if it doesn’t make me feel good and comfortable.

  • Amina Isa: People need my type of music

Amina Isa, who is known with the sobriquet Missaei, is a singer, song writer and also a fashion designer. The graduate of Public Relations from Syracuse University, New York, also holds a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California’s renowned Film School. In this interview with YETUNDE OLADEINDE, she talks about her inspiration, plans for the future and more.

What is unique about your fashion line?

Koy and Victoria is my baby.

I have always been in tune with fashion, while I was in the university and even in secondary school, I would draw and make sketches. Going down memory lane, I remember that I customised my school uniform. There were times when I got into trouble but I still did it.  And it was just something that was always a part of me. In addition, people always told me that I had great fashion sense and that I should start a fashion line, so it was a kind of natural progression for me as well until I came up with my fashion line, Koy and Victoria. It is a women’s wear brand targeted towards women aged 18 and above.

Koy and Victoria is a lifestyle brand that is for the women that love to feel good, feel free and sexy as well as being able to explore travel. A lot of the pieces are transitional, and you can wear them when you are going partying or just want that casual outlook. So, you can dress it up or dress down.

    Where are you based?

Right now I am based in Los, Angeles, USA, and some pieces are being produced here in Nigeria too. We have the adire pieces, the silk adire collection which is made here in Nigeria. We got the fabric here in Nigeria and made it here in Nigeria but it is marketed globally.

    Who are your targets?

It’s made market. So the most expensive thing is probably going to be about $250 dollars and the most affordable thing will probably be around $65 dollars. Why? You may ask. That is because it is made out of silk. I usually describe our collection as laid-back luxury brand, so you can dress it up and dress it down by either adding or removing jewellery. It is the kind of clothing that anybody can wear. It is the kind of clothing that any woman can wear and look beautiful.

What should people expect from Koy and Victoria this year?

In 2019, we will officially be launching, so that means you can go on our site and actually buy the physical pieces. This is just a pre-launch. In 2019, you would be able to shop the brand and see it on your favourite blogs and be able to buy these pieces as well.

Where do you hope to be in the next ten years?

In the next ten years, I would be an established brand globally but known as being a Nigerian brand catering to women of all sizes, all shapes and making them look beautiful as well as working on my music consistently.

Who or what do you consider as your greatest influence?

My parents have been very supportive and I am very blessed in that regard.

My father, Mr. Abdulrazaq lsa, the Chairman/CEO, Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited, has been extremely supportive, while my mother, Mrs Kate lsa, CEO, Katchey Company Limited, is a champion. She really helps me to stay motivated as well as stick to my passion.

If you had to advise young people today, what would you tell them?

Don’t listen to that voice beside you that says that you are not good enough. That you don’t have what it takes and so on. Just do what you love, do what you want and stay true to yourself. You know what if you don’t; you are going to see other people doing the things that you know you could have done.

You are also a singer, what inspired you to go into music?

I have been singing for as long as I can remember, but actually getting the courage to get into the studio and recording a song started five years ago and the experience was great. Ever since, a lot of things have come up and I have been going to the studio, recording music and becoming more comfortable with that whole experience.

How do you intend to stand out considering the competition in the sector?

I believe that if you do what you love and you are honest about it, then things will fall in line and work for you. That’s how it has been with my life.

Anything that I put my heart into hundred per cent; I always find the way to make it happen for me.  It might not be the way others would want things to happen or plan for, but it always works out for me.  I believe that though it is competitive, and a lot of people have a lot of disappointments, I know that I will definitely find a path that works right for me in this industry.  I also strongly believe that there is room for my kind of sound. I haven’t really heard any other artist or a team of artists that have done the kind of music that I’m trying to do, so I’m confident that there is a place for me in the music industry, competitive or not. I think people need the kind of music that I have to offer.

    What keeps you going?

For me, it is not for the money, if it’s for anything, it’s for the love. Just getting into it professionally was a natural progression because I have been doing it in private for so long. I listen to different kinds of music. I get influenced by different kinds of music but I am more of the kind of person that likes listening to easy listening music.

So I am inspired by things that I see and feel when I go to certain places  on vacation or when I am  with my friends – those are the kind of vibes that I try to recreate in my music.

I am still trying to let people know who I am, be aware of the brand, be aware of the kind of music, just basically who I am and then an album will follow shortly after. I am working on some new stuff.  I have a song that came out last year, which is doing pretty well now and I am going to be singing that tonight. The song is called Flex. I dropped it on December 1st, it is called “Tell Me”. And the music video for that is coming out soon.

How have you been able to combine both, trying to excel in the fashion line as well as in music?

I think they go hand in hand. I think that I can use the music persona to help elevate the fashion. But I think that this is something that a number of successful artistes have done. It comes natural and so I can deal with that easily. I must say that I have enjoyed every minute or should I say opportunity that came my way.
