  • Rain skin care

    Rain skin care

AS we approach rainy season, it is time to get ready for the wet weather ahead. How healthy one’s skin is is the first step towards an excellent supple body. But how you maintain your skin will determine how healthy it can go this cold period. It is very necessary that you take special care of your skin during this season in order for it to look radiant and beautiful despite the heavy down pour. So, you need to take extra measures to protect your skin against harsh weather because the rainy season brings about other potential problems for the skin. Colder weather does not mean your skin is not in danger of drying up. In fact, the skin tends to get dry easily during colder weather.

To keep your skin healthy and protect it against the cold, you must make sure it is supple and full of moisture to avoid cracking and dryness. Here are some tips to keep you pretty when it is raining cats and dogs:

•Wash your face with plain water; avoid using soap because too much soap can dry up your skin and steal its natural oils.

•Petroleum jelly is good for this season; it will seal in moisture.

•For your skin to retain its glow throughout this cold period, you need to look for a body cream that contains some vital vitamins.

•Also, body creams that contain avocado oil and sunflower oil will make the skin glow and warm.

•Drink plenty of water. Water will detoxify the blood streams and aid the free flow of blood. Drinking at least seven to eight glasses of water every day helps purify the body from within and helps us flush all the harmful bacteria out. Avoid too much intake of soda and other alcoholic drinks since these can lessen our youthful look.

•Eat a lot of fresh fruits; fresh fruits and vegetable plus a good healthy diet can make skin healthy at the same time help us achieve a balanced weight.

•After you wash your hands, use hand cream to seal in moisture.

•African shear butter (ori) is also good for this period, and if you are the type that cannot do without a particular body cream, you can rub ori after you apply your body cream.

According to Bose Akintoye of Lady B11 Beauty Salon, “light make-up made with waterproof foundation powder, waterproof mascara, waterproof lipsticks, waterproof liners and waterproof shimmer is more advisable. And wear water-based moisturizers during the rainy season to keep away oily skin, acne and water loss due to perspiration”.

  • Ideal earrings for your hairstyle

    Ideal earrings for your hairstyle

HAVE you ever wonder what earlobes would look like, if we did not have earrings to beautify them? Being another form of accessory, earrings radiate elegance and add attraction to any look. So, it’s important to pick the right pair of earrings that will flatter your hairstyle, make-up and dress. Here are a few tips which will help you pick the right earrings for your hairstyle.

Medium to long length hair – Choose hoop-style earrings with caution. Hoop-style earrings add weight and curves to your face, making your face look round.

Round face – You should pick earrings of oval shape than going for circles. Choosing rectangular or square styled hoops is another way of adding dimension to your round face paired with long hair.

Other styles which will work best with long hair are elongated and oblong shaped earrings. You can also choose to experiment with long danglers and chandelier style of earrings.

Up-do style-Pick dimensional earrings, such as squares, diamond, or gold drops. With an up-do, you can emphasize your neck area and for that, long beaded earrings or chandelier earrings can be your pick. Teardrop earrings would also be a good option for an up-do hairstyle.

Short hair- Short hairs are just perfect for showing off your earrings. You don’t have to worry about your earrings being hidden by your hair. With short hairs, you can pick anything from plain button earrings to stylish hoop or dangle.

However, before making choices, keep in mind the overall look. If you have super short hair, then big hoops or dangle might look overwhelming. So, it’s important to choose the earrings which complement your hair cut.

Pony tailed hair-Choose drop earrings in bright colours. You can also look for earrings in earthly materials like bamboo, wood and cork.

These great choices will grab the attention of all and you will surely steal the scene.

DO you care for a fabulous skin? Then you don’t have to go any further. Launched on February 28, 2012 in Georgia, USA, but coming soon first time to Nigeria,Africa, April had an initial goal to produce cosmetics that were not harsh to the skin and to provide women with the proper education on skincare and make-up application.

After watching how many teenage girls, including her own daughters, skin would become damaged as a result of trying an array of cosmetic lines, she vowed to step in with a solution.

Wearing make-up is a big part of a young girl’s adolescent years, so she wants to make sure that the make-up they are using is not harmful and she plans to educate them on the true purpose of cosmetics. This applies to adult women as well.

Butterfly Cosmetics features a light coverage hypoallergenic mineral line, as well as the popular “kamouflage”- a complete blemish and scar cover.

“Nigeria being the giant of Africa gets to be the first stop for the Butterfly Cosmetics experience which proudly carries the slogan, Looking Fabulous and Loving It,” so says April Smith from Buena Vista, Georgia, the brains behind this international cosmetic line.

The rapid success and international interest in Butterfly Cosmetics subsequently inspired April to create and launch her couture clothing line, Laschon Kouture. The perfect marriage of haute couture and fabulous face make for an endless stream of inspiration for April. She debuted Laschon Kouture earlier this year with her fall/winter couture fashion line. These products will soon be available to consumers on close range in Nigeria.

    Gorgeous geometric styles

Most of us, if not all, would agree that Mathematics is not one easy subject to pull through with as all the calculations keep our heads busy, and because of this, we try as much as possible to run away from it. But this one in connection with fashion would surely interest you.

The geometric dress comprises of bold prints that combine shapes like circles, octagons, triangles and the like. The whole combination is lovely and a little tutorial will pave your way to rocking the trend like a chic. Here is how to go about it:

Geometric prints can be very tricky as dresses with larger prints make your curves appear bigger, while those with smaller prints make you look taller and still show the sexiness in you.

You can mix prints, but this requires skills. It’s easier when you dress your top or bottom part in geometric prints and pair them with plain dresses. Dressing in geometric trousers and a plain peplum top looks adorable.

If you are the office kind of girl, pick a knee-length geometric dress or skirt and do not overaccessorise. A piece of jewellery is fine. Try not to make your outfit look boring by adding a pop of colour to your outfit. Colours like orange, red and yellow would make the outfit look brilliant.

For formal events, geometric dresses can go with a nude clutch and pumps. Playing to-match with your clutch and shoe is allowed

Opt for mild make-up which includes a smoky eye and bold lips.

Still scared of wearing geometric prints? Your homework has been done.
