  • How to apply false lashes

    How to apply false lashes

FALSE eyelashes have come a long way since the 70s, and these days many women wear them to enhance their eyes. Master the art of choosing and applying fine false lashes so they look as natural as possible.

Size your lashes before gluing them. You will need to make sure that they are not too wide for your eyes. Hold the lashes strip against your eyelid. Trim it down on the side if necessary.

Squeeze thin line glue unto the back of your non-dominant hand. Gently run down the outer seam of the eyelash strip along it. Allow the glue to dry for a moment before applying it to your lashes.

Place the strip on your eyelid, positioning it as close as possible to your eyelash.

Allow the glue to dry naturally. Once the strip is in place, let go and allow the glue to dry on its own. You don’t need to press it down or hold it for a long time.

Apply mascara on your lash to make it look more beautiful because this may help you to blend it as your natural lashes.

Apply a liquid liner if needed.

When you want to remove the false lashes, use a makeup remover to remove it. Make sure you dip it inside a q-tip eye remover and gently rub it along your lash line. Allow the remover to sit for a moment, and then pull it off the strip.

  • New bra adverts promise comfort

    New bra adverts promise comfort

A PRESS release from Warner’s Bras says: “The most commonly searched words associated with bras include: hate, throw, stop and bad” which all sound terrible. To what bras are these poor women subjecting themselves? Perhaps with the exception of “throw” which could allude to something fun, involving a one- direction concert. Anyway, Warner’s wants to make it clear that its bras are not of the “hate” variety, and it has created a video and corresponding campaign to prove it.

The get comfortable campaign video humorously shows women in situations where they are so unbelievably comfortable in their Warner’s bras that they forget they have them on be it in the bath or while breastfeeding!

  • Style tips for red lipstick

    Style tips for red lipstick

ONE wonders why red lipstick never seems to go out of fashion; the fact is that it is a universal classic and has yet to go out of style. Many women assume they cannot pull it off but they are wrong. Here are some tips to follow.

*The secret lays in the rest of your face – The paler your skin, the bigger the pop. You should go light on the eyes and blush; otherwise, you will risk looking like a clown. You can skip the eyeliner and make do with only mascara and make sure to apply to bottom lashes, this opens up your eyes. Dust your face with powder and cheeks with a soft blush

*Line inside of the lips – The lipstick tends to bleed, so fill in the lips with the lip liner first before any other thing.

*Pick the right colour – If you are light-skinned, you will look better in plum shades, darker girls would be flattered by warmer reds that have a brown base.

*Do not let nails clash – Contrary to what you might think, it is better to go for non-red nail polish when going on red lipstick. A clear and light polish is cool and dark polish is a trend that will not go away anytime soon. If you really want to go with the red polish, then make sure the colour matches your lips.

*Blend it well – You do not have to stick to one shade of red, try to blend and create the perfect colours. If you buy a red lipstick shade that is too bright or dark, do not dispose it, instead, experiment with other lipstick shades that you have to create the perfect shade of red.

*Do it light if you are older – The lips get thinner as we age and dark lips accentuate them. To prevent your lips from looking too stern, try a rosy red lipstick shade or you can avoid the red lips altogether and opt for a neutral shade then go ahead and play up your eyes.

  • The right shorts for your body type

IN this season of holiday (picnic & beach), what is better than best shorts for your legs? Our Fashion squad hit the style-world to capture the ideal shorts for your shapes for your delight. Enjoy

    The figure to-die-for (hour-glass shape)

Women with hour-glass figures are curvy. Their bust to hip ratio is almost the same, and their slim waist is the highlight of their frame. Pick up shorts that are slightly wide-legged and loose-fitting. Avoid prints, pleated styles and cargo pants. Pair your shorts with a top that tapers in towards your waist.

    Pear-shaped

Pear-shaped women have a slimmer upper torso and bigger hips, waist and thighs. Go for shorts that are flat-fronted or softly pleated to emphasise your smaller waist areas.

Straight-leg cuts will suit you best: Avoid clingy fabrics like lycra. Jackets and shrugs create the appearance of a fuller shoulder. Bermuda-inspired short style that skims over hips is your best bet. Heavily pleated styles and pockets that pooch are no-go area.

    For straight (long) leg

Show off what you got. Go for shorts with cute details and you can experiment with floral.

Look for feminine details like lace, bright floral to soften your frame. A high-rise cut could lend you the appearance of an hour-glass figure, if it hits right at your waist.

Avoid wide leg shorts as they could make your legs look like a pair of sticks.

    Boyish shape

Women with boyish shape have narrow hips, small bust and a non-existent waist. Pick shorts that give your slim hips the illusion of a fuller curve. Tailored shorts with detailing work just right.

    Avoid loose fits

    For plus-sized figure

Go for single colour flat-front pair that hits your thighs where they start to narrow.

  • Tiwa Savage Copy her look

    Tiwa Savage Copy her look

THIS season has been a busy one on the red carpet. The R&B songstress star Tiwa Savage looks hot in these cute pieces.

Wearing a white mesh designed top, pleated pink skirt and off white pumps, the A-list diva proves that you don’t need to be head-to-toe in designer to make a fashion statement and she proves that the days of pleated skirt are still much around.

She completes the red carpet-worthy look with a slick of tinted lippy and gliding wavy hair-do.

What do you think of Tiwa Savage’s charming look? Steal her look!

Basic pieces to style with a pleated skirt

    Tank tops and camisoles

These tops serve as the perfect foundation for any look and work well with pleated skirts. Choose tops that fit closely to the body rather than loose-fitting ones.

    Mix different fabrics

For an individualised and stylish look, mix different fabrics that complement one another, such as a jacket/plain shirt over sequined camisole or tank top. Then, choose a pleated skirt that complements the fabrics worn up top. Consider experimenting with prints.

    Scarves

Scarves have been making a comeback in the fashion scene in a big way. And it is a good thing because scarves can be worn many different ways depending on the look desired. An important factor to consider, however, is the length of the scarf. If it is too long, it may be too much of a contrast. Tie the scarf in such a style so that it looks appropriate and attractive with the pleated skirt and the rest of the outfit.

    Belts

Belts are popular accessories today, and their purpose is not limited to simply holding pants or skirts up. Rather, belts are used as accompaniments to an outfit. Skinny or thick, belts of all widths can be combined with an outfit to pull off a variety of looks. Choosing coloured belts can also add a splash of flair to a muted pleated skirt and top. The size of the pleats will determine the most appropriate belt design.

    Shoes

When sporting the pleated skirt outfit, pay close attention to the shoes worn because they really bring the entire outfit together.
