  • Daniel to Abiodun: Don’t use petty politics to short-change Ogun people on constituency projects

Daniel to Abiodun: Don’t use petty politics to short-change Ogun people on constituency projects

A former governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel, has cautioned Governor Dapo Abiodun against letting his petty politics to short-change the good citizens of the state, especially the Ogun East Senatorial Districts, on facilitated development projects.

Daniel, who is the Senator representing Ogun East in the 10th National Assembly, said that what he expects, and even requires from the Dapo Abiodun – led state government was cooperation, not hostility manifesting as petty politics to stifle or abort facilitated federal projects to the state.

The former governor who gave the advice at Erunwon community during his Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour of the BATOGD Movement, Ijebu North East Local Government, was apparently referring to the Paddy Arikawe-Oye Igbimo Road in Sagamu, a constituency project he facilitated which the state recently halted over alleged engineering designs issues.

The Nation reports that the state government had directed the contractor –  Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the constituency project, to revise the engineering designs substantially and ensure transparency in all submissions to the state appropriate agency.

This development came after the contractor had submitted a bill of quantities to the state government, days after violating regulations by beginning work on the state road without approval and subsequently being directed to follow due process.

According to the state government, the design submitted by the contractor was below specifications.

However, Daniel clarified that the road is a federal government project while he is merely the facilitator.

“A fundamental part of my role as your Senator is lawmaking and, crucially, facilitating the location of federal projects to our constituency. However, I must clarify a critical point: my job essentially ends with the facilitation. The process of awarding contracts and executing these projects is the responsibility of various federal agencies, often in cooperation with state agencies. What we expect, and indeed require, from the State Government is cooperation, not hostility. Petty politics must never be allowed to short-change our people.

“Let me give you a clear example. The Paddy Arikawe Road in Sagamu, which is currently a subject of controversy, was first opened up and tarred with drainages by our Ogun State Road Management Agency (OGROMA) in 2004, over twenty years ago. Sadly, since then, no significant repairs or maintenance had been carried out until we managed to include it as a palliative measure in our limited constituency projects. The primary responsibility for that road lies with the local and state government. The plank of my message to our state government is simple: we need encouragement, not discouragement, to bring more development home,” he said.

Daniel also called on the Dapo Abiodun – led state government to channel its energy to governance and development, saying that is a shared mandate and the best way to truly serve the people.

The ex – governor also passionately pleaded with Dapo Abiodun to come to the aid of Ijebu North East Local Government (LGA) urgently and pity the plight of the indigenes and residents, lamenting that the condition of road infrastructure in the area was dire.

Daniel said: “My dear people, permit me at this point to make a passionate appeal. As a matter of urgency, we call on the State Government to come to the aid of Ijebu North East and pity the plight of our people.

“The condition of our road infrastructure is dire, and rehabilitation can no longer be delayed. We therefore implore the government to immediately commence the rehabilitation of eleven key road networks that are central to the economic and social wellbeing of this local government.

“These roads are lifelines for our farmers, traders, students, and the entire business community. Their rehabilitation will not only ease movement but also boost commerce and restore hope to our people. We sincerely beg the State Government to act now and allow the Federal Government to complement its efforts for the benefit of all.”

2027: Youths drum support for Kwara North, Central candidate

Kwara North Youth Consultative Forum (KNCF) and Kwara Central Youths have unanimously agreed that the governorship seat should shift to Kwara North in 2027.

KNCF urged all the political parties in the state to zone their governorship tickets to Kwara North for the district to push forward its best candidate.

Both Kwara North and Kwara Central said this during a dialogue in Ilorin, the state capital.

KNCF’s Chairman, Abduldayan Haruna said: “This dialogue is not an accident of history. It is a deliberate and well-thought-out continuation of the private visits and engagements we in the forum have had with various associations, youth groups, community leaders, stakeholders, and opinion shapers in Kwara central.

“In each of those engagements, one truth has consistently emerges: our brothers and sisters in Kwara Central stand firmly on the side of equity, justice and fairness. Their voices have been clear and their position unwavering; that in 2027, the governorship seat of the state should rightly and justly be zoned to Kwara North senatorial district.

“We believe that unity among our youths across senatorial lines is the strongest foundation upon which the 2027 aspiration rests.

“If we could support the current Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq in 2023 for his second term bid, it is incumbent on Kwara central to reciprocate the gesture in 2027 by supporting a Kwara North aspiration of governing the state.

“All that we are asking for is that every political party in the state should zone its governorship ticket to our senatorial district in 2027. Then it is left for us to decide who to present that is capable.”

Keynote speaker, Mohammed Abdullahi who hails from Kwara central, also harped on unity of the Kwara northerners.

The theme of the dialogue was “Kwara North governorship aspiration: A path to a more united and prosperous Kwara.”

Abdullahi added that had not come to the meeting to campaign for Kwara North but to support justice.

“Kwara North deserves the chance to also aspire for the highest office in the state.

“We have returned to democracy since 1999. By the time this administration finishes in 2027, Kwara central would have occupied the seat for 20 years. Kwara South has done it for eight years.

“Since 1999 Kwara North has not had it. What we are saying is that it is time for equity, fairness and justice which religion of Islam preaches. We need to give the district the chance to take a short at the seat.

“But, we must not base our support on sentiment, they must be able to unite among themselves to give us a qualified candidate that deserves to be on the seat.”

Also speaking, Talba of Lafiagi Salihu Suleiman, a Kwara northerner, said that “all we want is equity, justice, fair play and inclusiveness.

“The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has clearly stated that it is the right of the Kwara North to aspire to govern the state in 2027.”

Wikimedia marks decade of impact, transformation

A Non-Governmental organization, Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN) on Saturday said it had made impactful transformation of the knowledge ecosystem in Nigeria since it was established ten years ago.

A statement issued by the President of Wikimedia Nigeria Foundation , Mr. Olushola Olaniyan said that WUGN was established in 2015 as a community of volunteers with a simple vision: to make knowledge freely accessible to all Nigerians, while ensuring that Nigeria’s culture, heritage, and people are represented on the global stage.

The statement reads: ”Today, as the organisation celebrates its 10th anniversary, that vision has blossomed into a national movement that has transformed how Nigerians access, preserve, and share knowledge.

”Over the past decade, Wikimedia Nigeria has established itself as a driving force in Nigeria’s knowledge ecosystem, leaving a lasting impact across education, culture, advocacy, and digital inclusion. Through its work, Nigeria’s voice has grown stronger in the global knowledge economy, and millions of people now benefit from its initiatives.

”One of the most notable impacts has been the strengthening of Nigeria’s online presence. Over 50,000 articles and data entries related to Nigeria have been created or improved on Wikipedia and Wikidata.”

At the same time, more than 70,000 freely licensed photographs of Nigerian culture, heritage, and communities have been contributed to Wikimedia Commons. This has ensured that Nigeria’s story is told by Nigerians themselves, reaching global audiences in authentic ways.”

Olaniyan also noted that the organisation has also made strides in heritage and cultural preservation by documenting 83 historic monuments and 54 traditional festivals and preserving endangered languages through the Nigeria Oral History Project.

”Wikimedia Nigeria has safeguarded priceless cultural knowledge that might otherwise have been lost. With recordings in more than 20 indigenous languages, the group is ensuring that Nigeria’s linguistic diversity is preserved for future generations.

”Wikimedia Nigeria’s work has also contributed to advancing inclusivity in knowledge representation. Through initiatives such as Wiki Loves Women and Art+Feminism, over 2,000 new biographies of Nigerian women have been added to Wikipedia, amplifying the voices of women in history, politics, science, and the arts.

”In education, Wikimedia Nigeria has empowered the next generation of learners and educators. Its Wikipedia Education Program, active in more than 15 tertiary institutions, has trained over 10,000 students and faculty members to use and contribute to open knowledge resources. This effort has built vital digital literacy skills while positioning Wikipedia as a teaching, learning, and research tool in Nigerian classrooms.”

Beyond content creation and education, Olaniyan noted that Wikimedia Nigeria has been a voice in policy advocacy, working with government agencies, civil society organisations, and international partners to shape conversations around copyright reform, digital inclusion, and equitable access to knowledge.

“Over the last 10 years, Wikimedia Nigeria has proven that knowledge is not just power—it is empowerment. By opening access to knowledge, we have contributed to education, preserved our heritage, and given Nigeria stronger visibility on the global stage. Our impact is measured in communities uplifted, cultures preserved, and generations empowered to learn, teach, and innovate freely.”

The statement added: ”As Wikimedia Nigeria looks to the future, it remains committed to scaling its impact. The next decade will focus on expanding digital literacy programs across rural and urban Nigeria, deepening cultural preservation efforts, and strengthening partnerships with institutions, policymakers, and civil society to ensure Nigeria maintains a visible and equitable voice in the global movement for free knowledge.

‘’For Nigeria, the journey of Wikimedia is not just about free knowledge; it is about building a stronger national identity, nurturing innovation, and empowering citizens through access to information. After 10 years of service, Wikimedia Nigeria stands as proof that when knowledge is shared openly, nations thrive.”

Convoke summit on sustenance of Yoruba culture, Babayemi urges Ooni, others

A frontline governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has uged the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to work with other stakeholders in the Southwest zone to organise a summit that would promote the core values inherent in Yoruba culture.

Babayemi equally enjoined government at all levels to form an alliance with the traditional institution with a view to turning Yoruba cultural artefacts, monuments, and festivals into tourism platforms.

Babayemi, who is also the son of the late monarch of Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government area of the state, made the call while congratulating the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi and the people of the ancient town on the celebration of this year’s annual Olojo festival.

“The annual celebration of Olojo festival in Ile-Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba race, is one of the most important celebrations among the Yoruba people, which signposts not only the inherent core value in the race’s cultural heritage, but also the significance of Ile-Ife as the cradle of the race,” he said.

He noted that the Yoruba were a sophisticated race with a rich culture, feared that unless its stories were sustained and continuously retold, generations to come would be left with little or nothing about it.

Babayemi pleaded that for the culture not to be lost to the tide of modernity and foreign cultures, Oba Ogunwusi, working with other royal fathers as well as relevant stakeholders, should urgently form a vanguard that would protect the culture from disappearing from the annals and among the Yoruba people.

“Our highly respected Ooni of Ife and other traditional rulers in the Southwest need to ensure that nothing is left to chance in ensuring the preservation and sustenance of our cultural relics and monuments. This can be done and achieved through the convocation of a high-powered summit that will comprise our royal fathers and related stakeholders. This confab will produce a practical thematic of how our culture will not go into extinction.”

He added that his suggestion was premised on the fact that the Yoruba race has a rich background, with Ile-Ife and the Oonirisa holding a strategic leadership position in the heritage; stressing, “as a people, we have come a long way and we must not allow our tomorrow to be truncated by our today’s nonchalance.”

He advised that the move could become realisable with the cooperation of the government, noting that it would help the drive and promotion of the cultural heritage into tourism brands.

“The southwestern part of Nigeria, populated by the Yoruba, could become a tourism haven if all the cultural heritage is properly harnessed. It will further open up our towns and villages and at the same time, become a money-spinning venture for the government, corporate business owners and individuals,” he added.

While further congratulating the traditional ruler of Ile-Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, on the Olojo festival, he commended his efforts aimed at upholding the Yoruba ethos in his engagements at all levels, and promised to continue to work closely with him to bring his big vision for the race to fruition.

Kajola traditional leaders, Oyo Govt’ declare end to female genital mutilation

Kajola local government area of Oyo State has declared an end to practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the council.

The declaration was done through adoption of ‘Kajola Accord on Ending FGM’, which was developed, validated and signed by representatives of all critical stakeholders comprising WOWICAN, United Nations Women, and the traditional institution in Kajola local government.

The declaration, led by the Onjo of Okeho, Oba Rafiu Osuolale Adeitan II, who is the head of traditional institution in the Council area united the eight towns of Kajola LGA.

The eight towns that formed Kajola LG include Okeho, Ilero, Imia, Ilua, Ayetoro-oke, Isemi ile, Iwere-oke, and Ilaji-oke.

Together, they pledged not only to end the practice of FGM but also enforce sanctions against perpetrators or anyone found attempting to revive such practice.

Although, reported data indicated that the practice of FGM was prevalent in Kajola LG area of Oyo state, interventions by development partners in recent years have helped reduce the practice significantly.

The Accord and public declaration, led by UN Women, has solidified the community’s commitment by establishing a locally owned framework that prohibits FGM, reinforces accountability, and aligns cultural values with human dignity with the adoption Kajola Accord on Ending FGM to guarantee the safety and protection of the girl-child.

The historic feat was actualised through the strategic collaboration of the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, WOWICAN (Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria), and UN Women, with the support of the Ford Foundation.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in the state, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, represented by Mr Ogujimi Diya, reiterated the state’s gender-inclusive policies, saying Governor Makinde has demonstrated inclusivity and visionary leadership.

“We now have women occupying top positions that were never possible in the past. Our ministry will continue to collaborate with UN Women, WOWICAN, and other stakeholders to intensify advocacy, awareness, and enforcement of laws against FGM and gender-based violence.”

At the town hall sensitisation in Okeho, the UN Women delegation, led by Mr. Nurudeen Ibrahim, said community declarations must be upheld with strong enforcement.

He said: “We have laws in place in Oyo State to prosecute offenders, and we are confident that with the cooperation of traditional and religious leaders, we will end FGM permanently.”

He also unveiled a community accord against FGM to guide Kajola and other towns in aligning with global standards for the eradication of FGM.

Oba Adeitan reaffirmed the royal stance, saying FGM is no longer prevalent in the area, but anyone found practicing it or aiding such practice will be arrested and duly prosecuted.

“While some stubborn individuals may still attempt it in secret, the culture has been rejected, and we will ensure its total eradication.”

The monarch commended efforts of Governor Makinde, UN Women, and WOWICAN, adding that the community dialogue has empowered his people in restating their commitment to preventing GBV and ending all forms of harmful traditional practices in their domains.

“This awareness is very important. We will carry the message to all eight towns that make up Okeho, to our markets, and to our people at every level.”

The National Chairperson of WOWICAN, Dr. Ayobami Akinadewo also condemned FGM, noting that the practice must be stopped because it has no medical benefit but only inflicts pain, trauma, and long-term complications on women and girls.

Religious leaders across faiths echoed one voice: “We will take this message to our pulpits, our mosques, and our shrines. The dangers of FGM are real, and as faith leaders, we must protect our daughters and women.”

Mr. Ogunjimi Diya, Director, Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion said, “This government has zero tolerance for female genital mutilation, rape, and all forms of gender-based violence.

“We are committed to supporting initiatives like this and will continue to enforce the law without compromise.”

Mrs. Amaechi-Obi, Chairperson of WOWICAN Oyo State, reaffirmed the commitment of the Women wing of CAN in Oyo state and Nigeria to ensure that the girl-child and women are protected from all forms of traditional harmful practices and to permanently end female genital mutilation.

“This is more than an event. It is a collective voice against harmful practices, and we will continue to use media and advocacy to drive this message until FGM becomes history in Oyo State.”

    “A Turning Point for Kajola

With this accord, the eight towns of Kajola Local Government have spoken in one voice: FGM is abolished, and violators will face consequences under law and custom.

“This declaration will set a new standard in Oyo State and show that harmful practices can end when  cultural, religious, and government institutions unite for dignity and progress.”

  • Ogun monarch calls for Mandy Kiss’ arrest amid marathon s3x plan

Ogun monarch calls for Mandy Kiss’ arrest amid marathon s3x plan

The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Oba Ebenezer Akinyemi, has called for the arrest of social media influencer Ayomiposi Oluwadahunsi, known as Mandy Kiss, due to her plan to attempt a marathon s3x act with 100 men.

Mandy Kiss plans to carry out her attempt in Ikorodu, Lagos, on October 30, aiming for a Guinness World Records entry.

The Nation reported that GWR rejected the proposal, stating it does not endorse records involving s3xual activity.

Despite this, Mandy Kiss reportedly plans to proceed, prompting the monarch to label her actions a public nuisance and a risk to her life.

In an open letter to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Oba Akinyemi wrote, “Can she really survive what she plans to do? I am sure that men of the Nigeria Police Force will start arresting boys/men in Ikorodu if the ill-mannered lady dies as a result of the nonsense she is planning. The best approach to adopt is to arrest the lady who is currently constituting a public nuisance.

“She is insisting that she will go ahead with her plan despite the rejection of her disgraceful proposal by the Guinness World Records”, the monarch said.

He urged Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the police to arrest her to prevent a potential tragedy and protect Lagos’s reputation, associating it with President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

“From my assessment, I do not think the lady in question knows the implications of what she is venturing into. If she knows, she will not attempt the planned ugly incident.

“Lagos State is your home state and the home state of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Mandy Kiss, whose attitude makes her look like a mentally unstable person, should not be allowed to stigmatise the name that Lagos State has built for many decades.

“Lagos State, which parades a very disciplined First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other great people with rich culture and highly religious and revered personalities, should not allow the ill-mannered Mandy Kiss to destroy its image of excellence,” he said.

Oba Akinyemi also suggested that after her arrest, Mandy Kiss be returned to her family in Ogun State for psychiatric rehabilitation under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s oversight.

“Let me also propose that after arresting Mandy Kiss, she should be sent back to her parents in Ogun State, where my no-nonsense Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, will direct her re-arrest for the purpose of sending her to a rehabilitation centre like a psychiatric hospital for her insanity to be removed,” he added.

He further advocated for stricter government regulation of social media to curb moral decay among youths, citing the negative influence of such content on society.

“Without mincing words, the conduct of Mandy Kiss and her co-travellers has now necessitated the need for the Federal Government of Nigeria to regulate the way our youths behave, especially on social media. The moral decay in society needs to be given priority attention before everything goes out of hand.

“Our children who go on the internet for legitimate reasons will be exposed to the arrant nonsense that some content creators like Mandy Kiss engage in, and this practice may increase the number of youths engaging in social vices.

“As we all know, some countries where socially unacceptable films are produced regulate the activities of such practitioners on social media platforms, so Nigeria should not be an exception if it toes the noble way of regulating activities of morally deficient youths on the internet,” he said.
