2026: Ekiti stakeholders knock APC gov aspirant for attacking Fayose, Fayemi, others

Concerned stakeholders in Ekiti State have lashed out at the All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant, Kayode Ojo for dismissing the legacies of past governors including Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Ayodele Fayose and Kayode Fayemi.

Ojo, while addressing journalists at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja, where he submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms for the June 20 governorship poll, accused successive administrations in the state of “holding Ekiti down,” further claiming the state ranked 29th out of Nigeria’s 36 states in education.

However, some concerned stakeholders under the auspices of Renewed Media Agenda, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Dr. Akeju Akinsola described Ojo’s claims as “false, arrogant, and calculated insult to the collective memory of Ekiti people.”

Akinsola said Ojo’s utterances amounted to a direct insult to all former governors who have led the state from 1999 to date, including the incumbent, Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

He argued that since the creation of Ekiti in 1996, no administration has left the state without enduring legacies as well as tangible achievements that can’t be dismissed.

He said, “This careless and reckless speech is the height of irresponsibility and a clear sign that Ojo lacks the temperament, humility, and maturity required for leadership,” the group declared.

“In Yorubaland, we are taught to honour elders and preserve legacies. For Ojo to stand before the cameras and discredit every past governor of Ekiti is not only irresponsible but also an insult to history and culture.”

“Since Ekiti state creation in 1996, every leader both civilian and military, has contributed to the state’s progress in infrastructure, education, health care, ICT, agriculture, and governance reforms. From the construction of roads, schools, and hospitals to water supply schemes, power projects, and technology hubs. administration has left the state without tangible achievements”.

He further noted that the people of Ekiti, known for their sophistication and deep respect for education and culture, would never entrust their future to a politician who insults their elders and distorts their history.

“Kayode Ojo’s reckless words have already disqualified him in the court of public opinion, Ekiti people are not fools. We know the progress we have made, and we will never allow someone who insults elders, undermines our history, and traffics in lies to govern us”, Akinsola said.

Akinsola who dismissed Ojo’s claims on education as a lie from the pit of hell, said Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) places Ekiti among the most educated states in Nigeria, with a literacy rate of 95.79%, one of the highest in the country.

He highlighted Ekiti’s strong record in external examination, noting that the state consistently ranks in the top 10 nationwide.

“In the latest WAEC results, Ekiti secured a 75.48% pass rate in five credits, including English and Mathematics, compared to the national average of 72.12%. Independent studies by UNICEF, NBS, and Zikoko also ranked Ekiti the third most educated state in Nigeria in 2024/25, behind only Imo and Lagos.

“With five universities including Afe Babalola University and the Ekiti State University, ranked the best state-owned university in Nigeria in 2024, Ekiti state has proven itself as a centre of learning,” he added.

2027: Former southern legislators endorse Tinubu at Abeokuta summit

The Southern Summit of Former Legislators has formally adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.

The former legislators made the adoption in a communiqué issued at the end of the Southern Summit of former legislators, held on Saturday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The former legislators acknowledged the various reforms of President Tinubu, which have, in the last two years, re-engineered the economy, strengthened the currency, and set the nation on the path of socio-economic recovery.

They stressed the need for state governments to key into the reforms and support the President in his efforts to birth a new nation.

Speaking at the Summit, the Chief of Staff to the President, who is also the convener of the Summit, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, noted that with the signing into law of the tax reforms, President Tinubu has ushered in a new era of economic justice built on fairness, accountability, and national purpose.

The Chief of Staff, while quoting the World Bank Development Update, said the country’s economy expanded by 4.6 percent in the final quarter of 2024, pushing annual growth to 3.4 percent, the fastest pace in a decade.

He further added that the country’s fiscal deficit narrowed from 5.4 percent of Gross Domestic Product in 2023 to 3 percent in 2024, driving the federation revenues from N16.8 trillion in 2023 to an estimated N31.9 trillion in 2024.

The former House of Representatives Speaker noted the importance of unity in diversity, adding that without national unity, there could be no national development and that a nation without peace cannot experience progress.

“The country can draw strength and inspiration from culture, music, arts, and traditions. Nation building is a joint task that goes beyond building roads, bridges, schools, and hospitals; it is about forging a sense of common identity and purpose among the citizens.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ensured purposeful leadership through the establishment of development commissions across the six geo-political regions of the country. The development commissions would no doubt help channel more federal resources to develop and implement infrastructure and human capital development across the country.

“Nation building is not only the work of the government, but also for citizens, both at home and in the diaspora, who have a stake in the Nigerian project to join hands with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to build a nation every citizen will be proud of.”

In his message, the host, Governor Dapo Abiodun, noted that nation building isn’t the sole responsibility of one region, one party, or one institution, but a shared duty that transcends tribal, religious, political, and economic divides.

Abiodun added that unity does not mean uniformity, but a celebration of diversity under the framework of justice, equity, and respect.

While acknowledging the former legislators as embodiments and essence of representative democracy, Governor Abiodun said that apart from performing legislative duties, they also perform oversight functions and representation through which the voice of the people at the grassroots is brought to the government at the center.

“You must be committed to a united, secure, and economically vibrant region. You must continue to support policies and programs that promote inclusive governance, human capital development, and inter-regional cooperation,” he said.

Chairman of the occasion, Sen. Ken Nnamani, in his opening remarks, stressed the need for former legislators to come together to deliberate on the challenges confronting the nation and proffer workable solutions to the government.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, urged Nigerians not to allow pretenders in the political space to cause them to lose faith in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, observing that the agitations of the so-called pretenders are not about patriotism, but more about vengeance and power.

While affirming that the structure of the pretenders was built on mendacity, fury, and spectacle, Dogara noted that the country has begun to experience economic recovery.

Speaking in the same vein, former Speaker, House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh called for cohesion, dialogue, and shared purpose to navigate the journey of sustainable development, adding that unity remains an ingredient for peace and democratic progress.

The National Coordinator of the Summit, Hon. Raphael Igbokwe, assured that the meeting would serve as a platform for finding solutions to the nation’s problems, urging the sub-nations to collaborate with the federal government in moving the nation forward.

  • Conviction of Osun monarch in US ‘ugly development’, says Adeleke, dethronement imminent

Conviction of Osun monarch in US ‘ugly development’, says Adeleke, dethronement imminent

The dethronement of Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, who was recently jailed in the United States of America(USA) by District Judge Christopher Boyko over $4.2 million in COVID-19 fraud, may be imminent as Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke described the development as ‘ugly’.

Oba Oloyede, who was arrested in May 2024, was jailed with Pastor Edward Oluwasanmi in August 2025, causing ripples in Ipetumodu, headquarters of Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.

The Nation reports there was a crisis in the town during the week as princes, chiefs and kingmakers clashed at a meeting over a call to dethrone Oba Oloyede after he was sentenced to prison in the US.

The kingmakers, led by Asalu, Chief Sunday Afolabi Adedeji opposed the call on the basis that government was yet to obtained a Certified True Copy(CTC) or give any directives.

But Governor Adeleke, after the State Executive Council meeting on Friday night, frowned at the development in Ipetumodu.

Reacting to the development, an heir to the throne, Prince Olaboye Ayoola from the Aribile Ruling House commended Governor Adeleke for his directive noting that it will douse the existing tension in the town.

He said: “Since the embattled monarch was jailed, there is tension in our community, but the directive of the Governor will ease it now. The kingmakers who were opposing his dethronement will heed to the directive now.”

He urged the Governor to ensure that Aribile ruling house replaces Oloyede and not move to Fagbemokun because the embattled king did not die but was jailed.

When contacted, the head of kingmakers, Chief Adedeji said : “We can’t do anything outside the directive of the Commissioner, we will be waiting for his directive.”

  • ‘AfCFTA’ll unlock prosperity, boost Oyo’s economy’

‘AfCFTA’ll unlock prosperity, boost Oyo’s economy’

Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, His Excellency Wamkele Mene, and Oyo Acting Governor, Bayo Lawal, have declared that the AfCFTA will unlock prosperity, create employment and boost the economy of the state.

Mene maintained that Oyo State’s decision to integrate with the rest of Africa through the AfCFTA, will result in the expansion of economic opportunities for the state, as according to him, the initiative will boost the state’s trade volume, unleash economic prosperity on the youth, the informal sector, farmers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs in the state.

Speaking at the launch of the Oyo State Sub-national Implementation Strategy for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, on Friday, Mene noted that Oyo State has, by leveraging on the opportunities provided by AfCFTA, become a beacon of resilience, competitiveness, job creation and prosperity for all.

He added that the implementation strategy launched by the state would tackle the challenges of youth unemployment, drive economic growth, reduce poverty and improve the living standards of residents of the state, as the strategy has short, medium and long term benefits for the state.

The AfCFTA Secretary-General lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his vision in recognising the importance of AfCFTA and in driving the launching of the implementation strategy.

He described the launch as a bold step, which attests to Governor Makinde’s visionary leadership and understanding that “AfCFTA is not a distant aspiration, but a present day opportunity to unlock prosperity, create employment for young people, for players in the informal sector, for farmers, entrepreneurs and manufacturers in Oyo State.

He said: “The AfCFTA Secretariat stands ready to work with you, to support you within our modest means to implement this strategy, to ensure that when we say Oyo State was the first state across the continent to have a sub-national strategy that that does not end as a slogan, that indeed it does become a reality.”

In his speech, the Chief Host of the event and Acting Governor of Oyo State, who spoke on behalf of Governor Makinde, Lawal said the launch of the implementation strategy was a statement of intent and another definitive step to show that the state means business and is ready to be proactive and strategic to external trade policies.

He pointed out the medium, short and long term benefits of the strategy, stating that it will help to create employment, prepare farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs in the state for export and reduce poverty exponentially.

According to him, the strategy will, among other things, improve the export readiness of the state’s Small and Medium Enterprises through training, support for compliance with standards on packaging and certifications and also signal to investors that Oyo State is ready and that it is a good place to invest.

Makinde added that the strategy will equally help to focus by identifying priority sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and the creative industry, while the state can also devote resources where they will bring the highest returns.

He said: “Our gathering here today is not just for show. As of now, no sub-national entity in Nigeria or Africa has formally adopted the domestic strategy to operationalise the AfCFTA Agreement. But today, Oyo State becomes the first of the 591 sub-nationals in Africa to create an AfCFTA Implementation Strategy.

“You may ask, why now? Some people who are used to politics without purpose may begin to look for ulterior motives. Some may even ask whose interest will this serve? Let me declare that we are acting now because we believe that while many states are waiting for a perfect alignment, we know that the sooner you prepare, the sooner you gain and that is why Oyo State chose not to wait.

“Another question you may hear is this; does the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) even allow a state government to do this? Isn’t Foreign Trade Policy the exclusive preserve of the Federal Government? The answer is well, yes. The constitution makes it clear that treaties and agreements are negotiated and ratified by the Federal Government. Tariffs, border protocols and Customs are federal matters, but, and this is important, states have significant powers when it comes to economic development.

“States control local infrastructure, promote investments, regulate activities within their borders and are responsible for agriculture, SMEs development, standards at the state levels and so on.

“So, what we are doing today is what scholars call para-diplomacy; that is engaging externally on economic matters without signing new treaties. When Nigeria ratifies an international agreement, that agreement becomes binding on the whole country. But, unless states align their policies and prepare their own systems, the benefits will pass them by.

“By our action today, we are preparing Oyo State’s systems; that is, regulations, standards, infrastructure, and institutional readiness and investment incentives such that when the federal provisions apply, we will be ready to benefit.

“Let me assure you that this strategy is legally sound, as it is about domestic alignment, readiness, reforms and business enablement. It is about competence and not competition with the Federal Government.

“Someone may ask; is this another jamboree or what exactly are the benefits for Oyo State? Are there real measurable gains in the short term, in the medium term and in the long term? Let me tell you what this strategy will deliver. In the immediate term, this strategy will improve the export readiness of our Small and Medium Enterprises through training, support for compliance with standards on packaging and certifications.

“It is also a signal to investors to tell them that Oyo State is ready and this is a good place to invest. It will also help to focus by identifying priority sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and the creative industry. We can devote resources where they will bring the highest returns.

“People talk about the Port in Lagos as an advantage that drives its economy. Well, this is our own port. With our proximity to the Benin Republic, Oyo State can legally boost cross-border trades, improve logistics infrastructure and create jobs in all support services that go with it.

“In the long term, this strategy will attract foreign direct investments into our priority sectors and give our businesses access to a single African market of about 1.4 billion people and diversify our economy so that we rely less on receipts from oil and more on value-added productions. And, as incomes rise for our farmers, manufacturers and artisans, state revenues will also grow.

“You have already seen how we increased our revenues without increasing taxes. We did this by helping people see that their taxes are not a burden but a partnership, funding infrastructure and services that create even more opportunities.

“These steps we are taking now will ensure that long after we have left office, Oyo State will become a true trade hub for West Africa. With strong infrastructure, high standards and reliable connectivity, we will attract more regional headquarters, connection centres and processing plants, which will see poverty and inequality reduced, because jobs will become more readily available and incomes more stable. Oyo State will be seen as a leader setting the templates for others to follow, as we are the pacesetter state.”

Earlier in her welcome address, Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on International Trade and AfCFTA, Ms Neo Theodore Tlhaselo, described the implementation strategy launch as a call to action and a significant signal that Oyo State is open for business locally and across Africa, adding that it also signifies a commitment to sustainable economic growth and that leaves no resident of the state behind.

According to her, the launch of the implementation strategy by the state will position it to take full advantage of the immense opportunities, which the AfCFTA, a historic continental trade integration, provides in terms of increasing the state’s production capacity, increasing trade volume and expanding the economy of the state.

Tlhaselo, who commended Governor Makinde for his leadership and inspiration in seeing the vision through, explained that the implementation strategy being launched was built around five pillars, namely; the productive capacity and value chain development, the trade facilitation and infrastructure, the market access and export readiness, the finance and investment mobilisation, the institutional framework, and monitoring and evaluation.

She appreciated the AfCFTA Secretary-General for leading the continent into the integration, noting that he is a man with the passion to see that Africa unites and it is able to realise the endeavour of being a single market.

She said: “Ladies and gentlemen, this launch of this strategy is a call to action. It is a signal that Oyo State is open for business, not just locally, but across Africa. It is a commitment to inclusive, sustainable economic growth that leaves no one behind.”

Also in their separate goodwill messages, the Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Christophe Baziwamo and Sierra Leone’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Major-General Dauda Fred Alpha, hailed Governor Makinde’s vision and leadership, noting that the AfCFTA implementation strategy launch is a momentous and historic achievement, aimed at fostering greater economic integration in Africa.

According to Bazivamo, the event is “more than a policy launch, but a statement of courage that Oyo State is ready not only to participate in Africa’s future, but to help shape it,” as he added that the strategy required political will and administrative capacity at the state and local levels.

Noting that the AfCFTA is the largest free trade area since the creation of the World Trade Organisation, the Rwanda High Commissioner to Nigeria said: “I commend the visionary leadership of Your Excellency Governor Makinde. By launching this sub-national strategy, you are positioning Oyo State not only as a beneficiary of Africa continental free trade area, but as a contributor to Africa’s integration story.

“Other sub-national governments across our continent will surely look to Oyo State as a model. Our continent’s future lies in unity, innovation, and shared progress. Oyo State has taken a bold step forward today. Rwanda is proud to work alongside you on this journey.”

Sierra Leone’s Deputy High Commissioner maintained that the launch of the AfCFTA implementation strategy will unlock much economic potential for Oyo State, adding that the Republic of Sierra Leone “stands ready to partner with Oyo State on the initiative.”

Family urges Ondo Govt to stop stool crisis in Ese-Odo

The Atike family of Agadagba-Obon in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State has called on the State Government to intervene in the crisis over the Amananawei stool to avert breakdown of law and order.

In a statement to newsmen on Friday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, by Ofoyeju Gbinmoye Medek, the family alleged the Kekemeke clan was attempting to impose a traditional ruler on the community despite a subsisting court case on the matter.

Ofoyeju, who is the spokesperson of the family, said the move by the Kekemeke family was “strange, selfish and non-inclusive,” warning that such actions could destabilise the peace of Agadagba-Obon.

It reads: “As a strong stakeholder in Agadagba-Obon, the attitude of the Kekemeke family to single-handedly select and install the Amananawei is a brazen embarrassment to the John Atike family.

“The family will not play second fiddle to any family in the Amananawei issue. So, the Kekemeke family must be called to order as a matter of urgency to forestall peaceful co-existence in the community.”

The family also accused the Kekemeke clan of boasting about political and judicial connections while ignoring peace moves initiated by the Agadagba of Arogbo kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Pere Doubra Zacchaeus Egbunu, Opukutu III.

It alleged that despite the matter being in court, the Kekemeke family had allegedly secured approval to proceed with the selection process.

“In all these, the State Government has not done anything towards reconciliation of the two families.

“Rather, the Kekemeke family succeeds in getting approval to continue with the selection process despite the fact that the matter is already in court. We smell a rat,” the statement added.

The Atike family further alleged plans to attack its members before September 15, the date allegedly fixed for the stool selection, warning that it would resist any provocation.

However, in a petition addressed to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, the Kekemeke Royal Family accused some members of the Atike family of attempted murder, assault, wilful destruction of property and criminal trespass during the stool selection exercise.

The petition, filed through their counsel, Oju Kekemeke, alleged that thugs led by named members of the Ofoyeju family and others invaded the Atimati Family House on September 2, 2025, where the selection of the Amananawei was being conducted.

It claimed that the attackers made attempts on the lives of Hon. Justice U.P. Kekemeke, High Chief Richard Kekemeke, Prince Beligha Kekemeke and other members of the family, while also destroying chairs, canopies and other property at the venue.

According to the petition, “Hon. Justice U.P. Kekemeke, who was presiding over the meeting as Head of the Ruling House, became an easy target as it took spirited efforts of his Police Orderly and two other Policemen to save his life, even at that, he was dispossessed of his iPad containing very important judicial documents.”

The Kekemeke family stated that the alleged attack which occurred despite the presence of police and DSS operatives, caused panic and disrupted a lawful meeting convened at the instance of the state government.

It urged the Commissioner of Police to launch a full investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing that their clients were ready to provide evidence and cooperate fully with the authorities.

Awujale throne: Fusengbuwa ruling house warns against fake screening claims

…tasks Abiodun, kingmakers on competent successor of Awujale

The newly confirmed Olori-Ebi of the Fusengbuwa ruling house in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Otunba Abdul-Lateef Adedayo Owoyemi, has dismissed reports that the royal family has constituted a committee to screen aspirants for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne.

Owoyemi clarified that no such committee exists and urged Ijebu sons and daughters at home and abroad to disregard contrary claims.

He also noted that the family had not fixed any fee for nomination forms, stressing that the process could not be free to avoid an unmanageable influx of aspirants.

The former ICAN president made these remarks while receiving members of the Tunwase family unit of the Fusengbuwa ruling house at his Idowa country home.

He called on Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Ijebu-Ode kingmakers to ensure that only the best candidate emerges as the next Awujale, in line with a prophecy that the successor will surpass the late Oba Kayode Adetona, who passed on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.

Owoyemi further cautioned aspirants against resorting to spiritualists or diabolical means to ascend the throne, stressing that kingship is divine and determined only by God.

He also reaffirmed his position as the authentic head of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, citing the Court of Appeal ruling of November 28, 2024, which upheld his leadership against rival claimant Chief Adedokun Ajidagba.

  • Ihite Uboma gets fresh start as chairman rebuilds markets, schools, security

Ihite Uboma gets fresh start as chairman rebuilds markets, schools, security

When Prince Obioha Ndukwe assumed office as the Executive Chairman of Ihite Uboma Local Government Area, Imo State, in October 2024, the region was under siege from insecurity. Fear gripped the people so deeply that even the once-thriving markets shut down early, and residents couldn’t sleep with both eyes closed.

“Before I came in, this place was completely unsafe. People had deserted the streets by evening, markets closed before dark. Even I couldn’t operate from within—I had to stay outside the LGA for some time until we could secure it,” he said.

According to Ndukwe, his administration, with critical support from the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, tackled insecurity head-on. “We cried to the governor and he responded. He gave us a combined security team. Now, there’s a functional police station, and soldiers patrol every corner. People now sleep in peace,” he said.

The previous police station had been burnt down, and with no rehabilitation feasible, Ndukwe’s administration created a temporary but functional alternative at the local government headquarters. “That structure was too weak for renovation, so we provided a new operational base for the police,” he said.

Beyond security, the Chairman highlighted several infrastructural projects completed within his first six months. These include: A New Transformer, Solar-Powered Borehole, Market Sanitation and Facilities, and Education and Health.

He said: “When I resumed, there was no electricity in the metropolis. We installed a new transformer to restore power. We constructed an industrial borehole and converted it to solar power to ensure constant water supply. The East Market had an 80-year-old refuse dump. We cleared it. We’re building toilets and convenience facilities. There were no proper shops before; now we’re building more to accommodate traders. One school was so bad, children studied under trees. We are reconstructing schools with new roofing. Our health centers are also undergoing major renovations.”

Ndukwe emphasised that local government administration doesn’t require massive allocations to make a difference. “If any chairman says he can’t work due to lack of funds, he’s lying. Even the little we receive, when used wisely, can create real change,” he asserted.

The Chairman also outlined plans to revive agriculture in Ihite Uboma, describing the LGA as the “food basket of Imo State.”

“We have vast land and multiple rice mills. We are injecting resources into agriculture for food security and job creation. We’ll support farmers with incentives and inputs because the farming season is here,” he said.

Commending his impactful leadership in Ihitte Uboma, His Royal Highness, Eze Innocent Ukachukwu Onuoha, Ikpe I of Ikpenweafor and former Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, lauded the Executive Chairman of Ihitte Uboma LGA for what he described as an outstanding and people-centered leadership.

“This is the first time I’m seeing an LGA chairman who truly lives among his people,” Eze Onuoha remarked. “Unlike the transitional chairmen we had in the past who operated from Owerri, this one resides in Umuihi and only goes to Owerri when necessary for official meetings.”

He recalled how in previous administrations, local leaders and stakeholders had to travel to Owerri to meet with the chairman. “Now, we have a chairman who is present and accessible. No matter when you visit the LGA Secretariat, you’ll find him there. He lives in his own house in Umuihi and has remained here despite the lingering security challenges.”

According to the royal father, the chairman’s availability has rekindled local governance and boosted community trust. “You can even call him at night and he will respond. He’s not like others who stay in cities and govern from afar. Since he assumed office, we’ve started holding regular security meetings — something we haven’t done in over nine years. Today, there is peace and a reasonable level of security in Ihitte Uboma. The situation has improved significantly.”

On infrastructure, Eze Onuoha commended the chairman for taking bold steps to restore the local government’s administrative facilities. “When he came in, the entire LGA Secretariat was overtaken by weeds, and most buildings were in ruins. But now, renovations are underway, and there’s massive work going on. The council hall, which had been converted into a commercial church, has been reclaimed.”

He also noted the chairman’s gradual implementation of his agricultural agenda. “He shared his plans with us in our last meeting, and we can already see him rolling them out progressively, according to the resources available. He is a man who ensures that what’s meant for the people gets to them. I’ve seen that for myself.”

The traditional ruler called on the people of Ihitte Uboma to rally behind the chairman. “He is doing well. May God grant him more wisdom as he works to restore Ihitte Uboma to its former glory, let’s give him the maximum support he deserves, we must be honest: some people may only think he’s doing well when he starts distributing money, but leadership is more than that. He is truly on course.” Eze Onuoha said.

The Chairman of Ndi Nze and Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of the Umuihi Ancient Kingdom, Nze Anointing Ihediohanma, affirmed that urgent government intervention is needed in critical areas of infrastructure development, security, and agricultural empowerment.

Ihediohanma emphasised that Umuihi is primarily a farming community and is in dire need of government support to boost agricultural productivity. “We are predominantly farmers, and we need the government to come to our aid,” he said. “We are requesting support in the form of modern farming tools, hybrid seeds, agrochemicals, and training. These are essential to improve our yields and sustain our livelihoods.” the Chairman of Ndi Nze added.

Commending the efforts of the Local Government Chairman, Ihediohanma who is also the Special Adviser to the Honourable Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly on Community Development, said “Before now, it was difficult — almost impossible — to gather freely as a community due to the fear of insecurity. But today, that tide is gradually turning,” he said. “The Chairman has taken concrete steps toward restoring peace and stability, and we’re beginning to see results. With continued efforts and support, we believe total security will be achieved in due time. He has given us reasons to believe in his leadership.”

Ihediohanma reiterated the community’s readiness to cooperate with government agencies and development partners to ensure lasting peace and socio-economic growth. He appealed for more attention to rural infrastructure such as accessible roads, electricity, and health facilities, which he said are critical to both security and economic advancement.

“We’re not just asking—we’re ready to partner and play our part. But we need the government to show stronger presence in our rural communities,” he stated.

The Traditional ruler, Umuihi Ancient Kingdom, Eze Uwalaka, hailed the chairman’s leadership and recalled the historic significance of his emergence. “This is the first time since 1945 that someone from Umuihi is chairman of the LGA. Umuihi is host to key government properties, including the stadium, but never held the position until now,” he said.

He attributed Ndukwe’s victory to prayers and divine intervention, noting that peace has finally returned to Ihite Uboma. “Since he came, calm has returned. Security has been restored. People can now sleep in their homes again.”

As Ndukwe rounds out his first few months in office, the signs of progress are already visible, and for many in Ihite Uboma, hope has returned, Eze Uwalaka stated.

Crisis erupts in Ipetumodu as princes, kingmakers clash over calls to dethrone jailed monarch

A fresh crisis has broken out in Ipetumodu, headquarters of Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, as princes and kingmakers clash over moves to dethrone the Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, recently jailed in the United States for $4.2 million COVID-19 fraud.

Oba Oloyede was sentenced to 56 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Christopher Boyko alongside Pastor Edward Oluwasanmi.

However, the Osun state government has said it cannot take action until it obtains a Certified True Copy of the judgment.

Amid the tussle for the stool, The Nation gathered that the monarch’s crown, beads, and royal paraphernalia went missing over the weekend, further heightening tension.

Speaking with The Nation on Tuesday, Prince Olaboye Ayoola confirmed that the chiefs, kingmakers, and princes, including heads of the Aribile and Fagbemokun ruling houses, held a meeting which ended in disagreement after princes pressed the kingmakers to formally petition the state government for Oba Oloyede’s dethronement.

Ayoola further alleged that the kingmakers, led by Asalu, Chief Sunday Afolabi Adedeji, had reached an understanding with security operatives to arrest some princes who had openly spoken to the media since the monarch’s conviction.

He said, “I received a threat letter two days ago warning me to stop addressing the media, but I discounted it. But today, I heard that the kingmakers are planning to use police and other security operatives to arrest some of the princes, including myself. That is not fair at all. I was told that if I had attended the meeting slated for today (Tuesday), I would be arrested alongside other princes.”

“They have even told the other 13 contestants not to attend the meeting; that is absurd. They have started their shoddy process again; they are against us for urging the Governor of Osun State to follow due process in selecting a new king.

“My life is in danger. Please help me appeal to the Commissioner of Police of Osun State and the Director of State Security, because the life of a certain prince is in danger. This is not right. I can’t even mention names — some miscreants in Ipetu have also called me, telling me to stop speaking on social media.”

Meanwhile, the head of Kingmakers, Chief Adedeji, denied the allegations.

He said, “We held the meeting yesterday, and nothing has happened yet. Stakeholders attended the meeting. The man in question is just making rubbish. Nobody is planning anything against any prince.”
