    Rep inaugurates school projects

The lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Prince Sesi Whingan, has inaugurated school projects and free ride buses to ensure safe and reliable transportation in his constituency.

Speaking before the inauguration, Whingan said the initiatives were a testament to his commitment to education.

He said: ‘’This is a commitment that echoes the pioneering spirit of Badagry’s educational history.

“Badagry holds a special place in the history of education in Nigeria. It was here, in 1842, that Western education was first introduced to our country by the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

“The first primary school, St. Thomas’ Anglican Primary School, was established in Badagry, marking the beginning of a journey that has shaped generations.’’

Whingan said the projects included construction of a block of six classrooms at Mowo Community Secondary School and another, a block of four classrooms at Anglican Primary School, Gbanko.

“Others are renovation of 14 units of school toilets at Ansar-Ud-Deen Junior Grammar School and renovation of a block of six classrooms at St. Leo’s Primary School, Ikoga.’’

Lagos State Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education, Mr Dauda Hassan, said the gestures would alleviate the suffering of the children of the masses.

Hassan, who represented Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, said the free ride buses to their schools would make them more comfortable on their way to school.

Dr Hakeem Shittu, the chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), said the materials being distributed by Whingan were seeds of knowledge, empowerment and opportunity.

He hailed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Whingan for their support and investment in education.

Education Secretary, Badagry Local Government, Alhaja Modinat Adebayo, said the structures and facilities provided by the lawmaker would make studying easier for students in Badagry.

  • BoA boss not seizing land in Ondo, says Aiyedatiwa

BoA boss not seizing land in Ondo, says Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has said the Managing Director of Bank of Agriculture (BoA), Mr. Ayo Sotinrin, was not using any private firm to seize land in the state.

Aiyedatiwa, who declared some protesting farmers as illegal occupants of forest, said it was malicious, unfounded and clear attempt at character assassination to accuse Sotinrin of land grabbing.

He said SAO Agro-Allied Services had been operating under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement since 2021 and that the firm’s acquisition and development of agro-industrial zones followed due process.

Aiyedatiwa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said none of SAO Agro activities involved unlawful takeover of legally-secured farms.

He denied making any promise during electioneering campaigns to support illegal occupants of government land or forest reserves.

The governor insisted that many of the aggrieved farmers currently occupying parts of Oluwa Forest Reserve breached and encroached on restricted forest zones without authorisation.

He said: “Other farmers have failed to comply with the agreed land use terms, posing environmental and security concerns.

“Where litigations are ongoing, every step taken has been guided by legal counsel, verified surveys and documented notifications. No action has been taken arbitrarily.

“It is equally important to clarify that Sotinrin is the managing director of Bank of Agriculture, a Federal Government institution. Allegations implying that he is using a private firm to seize farmland are malicious, unfounded and a clear attempt at character assassination.

“SAO Agro-Allied Services, on its part, has been operating under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement approved by the state since 2021. The firm’s acquisition and development of agro-industrial zones have followed due process and are under full government oversight. None of its activities involves the unlawful takeover of legally-secured farms.

“His administration remains committed to legal, inclusive and forward-looking agricultural development. Investigation is ongoing to identify genuine farmers with verifiable claims, separate from speculators and unlawful occupants.”

Farmers operating inside Oluwa Forest had accused SAO Agro of land grabbing and destruction of their crops despite their payment of annual land rent to the state coffers.

But Vice-President of SAO, David Olijogin, said the firm lawfully secured the 10,000 hectares and had been paying N40million annually to the state government.

He said the firm risked losing N6.5billion if it did not plant 123,000 seedlings of oil palm within limited time frame.

  • Remo indigenes insist on state creation

Remo indigenes insist on state creation

The Remo people have reiterated their unwavering demand for the creation of Remo State from the existing Ogun State, with Sagamu as its proposed capital.

They cited distinct ethnic identity, economic viability, and infrastructural development as compelling justifications for their demand.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Remo Committee on State Creation and Aare Gbo-Gbo-Gbo of Remo-Land, Aare Kola Oyefeso, and the Committee’s Secretary, Wole Awe, the people of Remo expressed unity and determination in their quest for statehood.

The statement was issued at the instance of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo-Land, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, alongside traditional rulers, elected representatives, high chiefs, professionals, and other Remo stakeholders.

According to the statement, “Remo has ticked all the boxes required for the creation of a new state: economic sustainability, infrastructural readiness, growth potential, land mass, and, above all, the consensus of its people.”

The Committee emphasised that the push for statehood is not rooted in “primordial sentiment” but in historical facts and administrative logic.

It disclosed that internal disagreements over the proposed name and capital city had previously hindered progress during past attempts to secure state creation.

The Committee also recalled how, in 2009, the Remo and Ijebu divisions failed to reach a consensus on a joint memorandum.

“While the Ijebus submitted their own bid for Ijebu State with Ijebu-Ode as capital, the Remos presented a separate memorandum proposing Remo-Ijebu State with Ikenne as its capital. That division ultimately cost both sides the opportunity,” the statement read.

Addressing the endorsement of unity documents in 2020 and 2024 by the Awujale of Ijebu-Land and the Akarigbo of Remo-Land, the Committee described the move as “symbolic and innocuous,” asserting that genuine state creation efforts go far beyond royal endorsements.

“Remo remains republican and has never been subjected to autocratic rule,” the statement added.

Highlighting the rapid growth of Sagamu and surrounding areas, the Committee stressed the region’s strategic proximity to Lagos, its industrial strength, and robust transportation links.

“Remo stands tall, head and shoulders above other towns in Ogun East. Our readiness is unmatched,” it declared.

The statement further noted the presence of an operational airport in Remo Central, which caters to both cargo and passenger flights—an asset that would ease pressure on Lagos’ aviation infrastructure and boost regional connectivity.

On revenue potential, the Committee affirmed that Remo contributes significantly to Ogun State’s internally generated revenue and has the financial capacity to function independently.

“We are not seeking to depend on federal allocations; Remo can stand on its own,” it said

  • Oyo police present cheques to widows of fallen officers, reaffirm commitment to welfare

Oyo police present cheques to widows of fallen officers, reaffirm commitment to welfare

The Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday presented cheques to the widows of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, said the gesture reflects the force’s deep commitment to the welfare of its fallen heroes and their families.

He described the event as a solemn moment to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.

Adenola emphasised that the initiative was in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who remains committed to supporting the families of deceased officers.

He also used the opportunity to reassure serving officers that the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large will not neglect them or their families, promising continued dedication to their welfare.

He said, “To the families of our falling heroes, I extend our sincere condolences. We acknowledge the immense challenges, including financial burdens that come with sudden loss of a family breadwinner. While no amount can fully compensate for your loss, we stand in solidarity with you during this difficult time.

“It is our hope that the cheques being presented today will provide some relief and support to you. We pray that they bring some comfort, particularly in this trying moment.

“To the dependents of our other deceased colleagues who are yet to be captured or paid their full entitlement, I wish to reassure you that the current police administration, under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, will not rest until all the outstanding backlog of claims are fully paid.

“As part of the Nigerian Police’s ongoing effort to improve service delivery, the Nigerian Police Force has introduced a major innovation in insurance claims processing through the Nigerian Police Insurance Claim Management Portal.

“Conceptualised under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, this cutting-edge platform is designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in claims administration.

“By harnessing technology, we are streamlining the process, eliminating bottlenecks, and ensuring beneficiaries receive their entitlements promptly.

“This initiative underscores our commitment to digital transformation and modernising our system for effective service delivery. I encourage all officers and personnel to fully utilise the portal and support its success.

“With insurance officers nationwide trained to administer the portal, we are forced to take our welfare administration to the next level.”

He, however, thanked Egbetokun for his commitment to the welfare of all personnel of the force, including retirees, and particularly to the families of deceased colleagues.

“It is our prayer that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes will continue to inspire us. May their families find comfort and strength.”

  • Group dismisses allegations of corruption against LASUSTECH VC, Odusanya

Group dismisses allegations of corruption against LASUSTECH VC, Odusanya

The Campaign for Democracy and Justice (CDJ) has dismissed the allegations of corruption against the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Chairman of CDJ, Ishola Adeshina, said the Vice Chancellor is not only a man of honour and of high repute but also a pro-working-class Vice Chancellor.

Adeshina said Prof Odusanya only believes and works towards the improvement of the welfare of workers and students. He noted that the records are in the public domain and that it’s unprecedented to have a chancellor who believes students must be comfortable on campus

He said: “This is a clear indication that the Vice Chancellor is incorruptible, open-minded, and a man who associates and mixes freely with all lecturers, students, and workers regardless of their faith.

“His distaste for indiscipline and harassment of students (both male and female) in any form is one of the bases for these umbrages and attacks.

“Therefore, Human Rights Protection as the core value of the organisations at this press conference, it’s incumbent on us to rise in unison to protect Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, who is being persecuted for being an upright and disciplined Vice Chancellor.

“The People’s Court is the greatest of all courts. Without mincing words, private interviews conducted by CDJ among students and workers of the university are a testament that the Vice Chancellor is being persecuted for being a disciplinarian who does not want anyone to toy with the future of students, nor put their lives in jeopardy.

“He detests any act of corruption. His achievements as a vice chancellor and giving priority to workers’ welfare are disturbing to some elements who are envious of his achievements and how the workers and students are proud of him.

“Making allegations of corruption that cannot be substantiated to distract the vice chancellor, to erode his goodwill and destroy his international reputation, which he has taken decades to build, is not only callous, wicked, retrogressive and against the norms of any religion but will boomerang.

“Conscience is an open wound and could only be healed by truth and justice. We are shocked that organisations would allow someone to use them as a vendetta for their wrongful acts without investigation.

“There is a saying in African culture, which includes Yoruba. You don’t judge or take sides in a dispute without a proper investigation. No doubt, such is the way of oppressors. How could a civil society group be part of oppression?

“The people behind the campaign of Calumny should be guided by their consciences. Why should they lend themselves to pull down an achiever?

“Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya is indeed an achiever. This is a fact, very clear and verifiable. His performance speaks for itself.

“From our investigation, the press statement issued in the name of an organisation with a designation that is non-existent in the organisation exposes the callousness of the mastermind of the campaign of calumny, which itself is an act of criminality, as the signatory and designation used are unknown to the organisation.

“There is nowhere in the constitution that says allegation of corruption should be used to undermine the prudence and efficiency of an office holder.

“It is on record that regardless of when subvention to the university is made, the salary of workers has never been delayed for a day.

“No package of workers has ever been delayed or denied, and we stand to be challenged by the amorphous and faceless concerned workers.”

The group urged the Lagos State Government not to allow rabble-rousers and disgruntled elements to drag the Lagos State University of Science and Technology backward.

It stated that Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya should be allowed to continue with his good work that amplifies Lagos State as the state of excellence.

“Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC should not succumb to coercion to distract the Performing Vice Chancellor of LASUSTECH.

“We appeal to Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya to continue his good work at LASUSTECH and not be distracted. He should please stay with us in Lagos State, Nigeria, to make our LASUSTECH one of the best,” it said.

Tinubu’s aide awards N10m scholarship to students

Kamorudeen Yusuf, the Personal Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Special Duties, has awarded a N10 million scholarship to the Shittu family in a show of generosity and support.

The gesture was inspired by a viral video posted by popular TikToker @Tiktok4joel, in which a 12-year-old girl wearing a hijab was playfully encouraged to drink water during Ramadan.

The girl politely declined, explaining she was observing the fast and could not eat or drink until dusk.

Despite being offered a gift by the TikToker, who was playing a prank, the girl refused again, stating that her mother would disapprove of her accepting gifts from strangers.

Deeply moved by the girl’s discipline and strong moral upbringing, Yusuf decided to support the family with the scholarship funds for their welfare and educational needs.

The video soon went viral, generating over three million views in Nigeria alone.

As fate would have it, Mr Ademuyiwa Taofeek Adebola later posted the video randomly on his WhatsApp status.

Deeply moved by the girl’s discipline and strong moral upbringing, Yusuf decided to support the family with the scholarship funds for their welfare and educational needs.

Shedding more light on this development, Mr Adebola, in a chat with our correspondent, said that on the instruction of Mr Yusuf, he had personally gone to verify the authenticity of the video documentary, where he met with the family, school tutor, and proprietor at the University of Lagos Staff School.

After Mr Adebola’s background check, he subsequently asked the family to open two separate accounts for the kids, where each was credited with the sum of N5 million on Monday, April 14th, 2025.

Speaking separately, the mother of the kids, Mrs Fauzia Musa Ismail Shittu, Mrs. Fatima Abiola, tutor, and Dr. Esther Shogami, Deputy Headmistress at the UNILAG Staff School, were elated, expressing gratitude for the kind gestures.

Mrs Shittu was particularly effusive with praises for her children’s good fortunes, offering prayers for all who made this possible, especially Mr Yusuf, the benefactor, and Mr Adebola, who was the vehicle used by Providence to bless the family at this time.

“May Allah reward you, Mr Kamorudeen Yusuf and Mr Ademuyiwa Taofeek Adebola. We’re truly very honoured by these kind gestures,” said an obviously elated Mrs Shittu.

Expectedly, the lucky kids, Ummulkhulthum Shittu and her younger brother, Ahmad Shittu, aged 8, were also joyous as they expressed profound gratitude to their benefactor even as they offered prayers for members of his household and more.

The programme, which was coordinated by the governor’s wife, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, involved the distribution of seeds, seedlings, birds, fingerlings, fertilisers, milling machines, among other farm tools, to the beneficiaries.

It was in furtherance of RHI’s “Every Home a Garden”; “Women in Agriculture” and “Youths in Agriculture” programmes.

The exercise also coincided with the launch of RHI’s expanded Agricultural Support Programme at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the state capital, by Mrs. Abiodun.

The governor’s wife said the intervention demonstrated the First Lady’s commitment to agriculture and food production.

She hailed the farmers for their daily labour to sustain the economy and nourish fellow beings.

Mrs. Abiodun showered encomiums on Senator Tinubu for her visionary leadership and resolve to continually touch lives across the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She said: “The intervention is a commitment to transform agriculture in Nigeria — through the rollout of three powerful initiatives: the Young Farmers’ Initiative, Every Home a Garden, and Women in Agriculture.

“These programmes are not just agricultural interventions; they are strategic investments in our future. They are designed to enhance food security, create employment, and reduce poverty — all of which are central to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Globally, agriculture remains one of the most effective tools for sustainable development — as recognised by the World Bank, which continues to affirm that growth in the agriculture sector is two to four times more effective in raising incomes among the poorest than growth in other sectors.

“I salute our farmers and farmers’ associations whose daily labour sustains our economy and nourishes our people. Whether you are a small holder farmer on your small half-plot or a big-time farmer, we appreciate all your efforts in feeding our people and pledge our support to you under this programme.

“The work we are doing is not just cultivating crops but a future productivity and self-reliance for our people.”

Lagos LG Poll: Groups back Lanre Olaide for Ojokoro LCDA chairmanship

As the local government elections in Lagos State are fast approaching, the Coalition of Yoruba Groups for Participatory Democracy in Ojokoro politics has thrown its weight behind Hon. Lanre Aduragbemi Olaide as the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday, July 12, 2025, elections.

The groups stated this in a statement jointly signed by Comrade Aderinokun John (YK), Comrade Ayodele Ishola (YWC), Comrade Femi Ogunlere (FYCC), and Comrade Simeon Falade (UNYAC) dated Monday, May 5, 2025.

The statement is titled, “Our formal but humble appeal to the reasoning of revered APC leaders in Ojokoro.”

They stated that “It is significant to recollect that with the emergence of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a Yoruba man as Nigeria President, we advocates of Yoruba nationhood resolved to re-project our ethnic struggle for a rather harmonious socio-political relationship with the APC party of the Southwest region, as a matter of common ancestry that we share.

“This has paved the way for a new dawn of peaceful inclusivity that we currently enjoy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which has continued to manifest in Yoruba-driven programs.

“This particularly makes Ojokoro LCDA, where our group coalition is domiciled, a point of important reference in this letter.”

According to them, “to sustain this cordial relationship for participatory development programs in Ojokoro, we yearn for the election of a local council chairman who will not only turn around the fortunes of our community but also ensure grassroots participation in the process.

“This fundamental quest gave birth to our coalition, aimed at speaking with one voice to solicit the consideration of a suitable Local Council Chairmanship candidate.”

It was added that rising from a pre-media release deliberation on the electoral choice question, “We implore you, Ojokoro APC leaders to consider records and contributions of each aspirants to the community.

“As for our coalition and using these criteria, however, the only Chairmanship aspirant who stands out remains no other person than Hon. Lanre Aduragbemi Olaide.”

The groups noted that natural expectations of Ojokoro people, including the down-trodden, has set a peculiarly high electoral standard for all Chairmanship aspirants that only Hon. Lanre Olaide can meet.

“His pre-chairmanship aspiration journey is characterised by communal sacrifices with lofty undertakings that seem too numerous for some to remember and too remarkable for many to forget.

“So far, he has left in his political trail a philosophy of cordiality and democratic brotherhood, which among other attributes no APC party faithful or Ojokoro electorate can ever ignore.

“In view of the foregoing, we say to Ojokoro APC Leaders and stakeholders:

“Hon. Aduragbemi Olanrewaju Olaide is Not Just Our LCDA Chairmanship Choice, He Remains Our Only Hope.

“This Coalition (Ojokoro chapter) is a non-political umbrella body comprising the following Yoruba groups: Yoruba Koya (YK); Yoruba World Congress (YWC); Federation of Yoruba Consciousness and Culture (FYCC); United Nations of Yoruba Ancestral Consciousness (UNYAC).

  • Why emotional intelligence matters in construction sites – Expert

Why emotional intelligence matters in construction sites – Expert

A construction project management professional, who is also a graduate researcher at The Catholic University of America, Washington DC, Adepeju Nafisat Sanusi, has explained why Emotional Intelligence (EI) is important at construction sites.

She said today’s fast-paced and multicultural construction industry is not just about steel, concrete, and blueprints that make projects successful, saying the role EI play in construction sites cannot be overemphasised.

Sanusi lamented that, as powerful as EI is to construction, some site engineers and project managers often overlook it.

She said, “Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand, manage, and respond to emotions. EI isn’t just a buzzword from business books. It comprises real, measurable competencies like self-awareness, empathy, self-regulation, and social skills.

Read Also: Experts urge FMCGs on consumer’s preference

“When construction professionals master these skills, they become better communicators, leaders, and collaborators. Take communication, for example. A project team that practices emotional awareness is better at recognising nonverbal cues, listening actively, and adjusting their approach across cultural lines.

“It’s not about being soft, it’s about being smart. Teams with high El are better equipped to manage conflict, build trust, and meet project deadlines under pressure. Research shows that emotionally intelligent managers are more likely to foster inclusive environments, resolve disputes unite teams in stressful environments.

“These soft skills lead to hard results on the job site, where delays and budget overruns can cost millions. Still, El is not often emphasised in task-driven industries like construction. Many believe that efficiency, not empathy, drives outcomes. However, ignoring team dynamics’ emotional and cultural dimensions is a mistake.

“El becomes a foundational skill in an industry where people must work closely, often under pressure and across language or cultural barriers. The industry must embrace El as part of leadership development to truly build better.

“Training programs focusing on emotional awareness, cultural sensitivity, and team dynamics should become standard practice, especially for managers overseeing diverse teams.

“With the advent of global diversity in the Construction Industry, workers often come from various cultural, linguistic, and social backgrounds. While this diversity brings innovation, it also introduces communication barriers, misinterpretations, and workplace tension.”

She however said the future of construction is global, fast-moving, and interconnected, saying those who can lead with technical and emotional Intelligence will build stronger structures and teams.
